Dark Dreamers: Harlan Ellison (2000)

*** (out of 4)

--Love/hate human race --People not liking the truth --Alice in Wonderland --Ego and prosperity reason to write --Believe conspiracy, not God --How to avoid writer's block

The host starts off in his introduction calling Harlan Ellison one of the most controversial authors out there and after this interview you'll see why. I think a lot of people are going to be offended by what Ellison says but he he admits this throughout saying people don't want to know the truth or at least what he considers the truth. Ellison talks about his love/hate relationship with the human race and why after watching Judge Judy he sees most people as complete idiots. From here we hear his rants about people who believe in God and why at one point he was having issues with his heart but he demanded to finish his novel before having it checked out. He also tells a rather amusing story and how to always avoid writer's block and he gets asked (once again) why he calls his home "Alice in Wonderland." I'm not an easy person to offend so perhaps that's why this interview didn't bother me too much. In fact, I found Ellison to be so over-the-top that I couldn't help but have a good time with his rants. I'm not sure it's a good idea to think all people in the world are like the ones on Judge Judy but whatever.
