Not as revolutionary as the hype would suggest.

Warning: Spoilers
Don't get me wrong, this anime isn't bad, in fact I'm enjoying it so far. It's just that I was way overhyped. The way people were talking about this, you'd swear that this was going to be the best anime in a decade. Portals to another dimension in Japan✅. Video game inventory✅. Western fantasy inspiration✅. Protagonist has abnormal powers even in his world✅. Weak Protag gets in a life threatening accident and awakens to new abilities✅. Protag wants to get stronger to prove to himself that he's worth something ✅. Has to provide for his sick relative/younger sibling (it's always a sister)✅.

It's everything we've seen before, but so far this anime does it better than others of a similar genre. So don't go into this show thinking it's going to be groundbreaking. I see why people are fans of the source material, but you shouldn't try to raise peoples expectations through the roof. It usually backfires. (I'll correct myself and update my rating if something interesting happens later, but so far it's just a well polished power fantasy, almost isekai).

This is something!

And you wont regret it!

Ive had this show on my watch list for over a year now, watching the first episode made me kinda meh but the second episode is the way to start!

I recommend watching those first three episodes alongside each other giving it a movie vibe, you feel me? The first one didn't quite hit it off for some, myself included, but trust me if you don't continue you are missing out!

The art game is on another level - the drawing, character moves, and the colors used are straight-up fire. It's a whole mood, something you don't come across every day.

That goofy yet kinda creepy smile? That's what hooked me a year back, and now we're getting the backstory of it, pure fire.

The outro is like being in a cinema, legit movie feels. The intro, though, needs some work, it's a bit meh, hope theyll work on it!

In this visual storytelling world, every frame tells a story , and it's not just about the plot. The animation style speak volumes, showing mad dedication from the creators and I already cant wait for the next Saturday!

Honest review from an anime-only.
sherjan-aamir9 January 2024
So I understand that this show has a massive fanbase from its source material which has received high praise over the years so there was a lot of hype surrounding this.

As someone who has not read a page of the source material, I liked the premiere but couldn't help but feel that it was the missing the 'IT' factor. Many of the manhwa readers have argued that the premiere should have been a 2 episode premiere and I frankly agree. As of now, the first episode felt like just another fantasy series. It's not bad but I just don't get the hype YET. I am really hoping that I'll be surprised as more episodes come in and will surely change my rating if the quality of the show is improved.

Comparing this to other anime that have become widely popular, the pilot just doesn't match up to their level.

I truly think watching two episodes together for this may turn out to be a better approach alas, weekly watchers will just have to wait a few days to see the second part of the initial disaster.

10/10 for the anime
pasinduamarasinghe14 January 2024
Read the manhwa like 10 times and I treasured it for a very long time. The best thing is that when someone reacting to the anime as I was with the manhwa back then, man can't explain how happy I am watching them explode with the thrill.

Animations look so cool and vivid as the manhwa.

Voice actors is killing the Scenes with their performances. Sawano's Background music's are phenomenal as ever.

Man that ending from TK was not expected. Opening was a great one too.

After the 2nd episode , pretty sure we can expect many many great things from now-on. 10/10 for the anime so far.100% Arise !!!!!

good stuff
imranoniyangi16 January 2024
The first two episodes have definitely left me wanting more, the pacing is decent and the main character is likeable and endearing. They also don't shy away from graphic depictions of blood and gore and they don't go overboard with that aspect either. Its looking good.

The show is definitely the best I've watched since JJK and I keep looking forward to the next episode . I have grown very attached to the main character due to his courage, seflessness and relentless spirit .

I hope it continues to maintain the same level of brilliance in subsequent episodes and will recommend it to as many people as possible.

They nailed it
kumarayush-477137 January 2024
I may be biased since i have been reading its manhwa for years ( completed it more than 10 times already) As for anime it was quite satisfying to finally see this masterpiece having an anime adaptation. I really liked it. Considering this was a 1st episode it was a brilliant move to let us see some important characters in between scenes Some people won't find 1st episode to their liking but believe me you will love ot wait till some more episodes drop I know it starts like this but wait till 3 episodes it will make you addicted to it.

Just hoping production will be deserving of this masterpiece in future.

sstefanivann15 January 2024
I don't know what should I say.. but when I heard that solo leveling will be a anime adaptation my heart leaps up with joy.... it's perfectly animated especially it's op song and perfect sounds background...I don't understand some people saying that it's average story and plot start with blood blah blah blah... Just Don't listen these kind of people they just spoil these masterpiece......watch this story until the end weither it is simple plot or not... You should watch it's real story I mean it's manhwa then you will understand why it's masterpiece...I hope it will get season 2 and also season 3.

They ate it
msmtch9 January 2024
To be honest it's so damn good and that feels like an insult to the episode just saying that this episode alone is in the top 30 ever produced truth be told. A1 Pictures knew what they were doing with Sung Drip Woo. I'm glad they didn't change his nationality and name like the rumors which would have been hella problematic considering Japan and Korea history, and on ep 2 we get to see Sung get *spoiler* so damn excited animation on point direction on point, va, cha on point! They even showed a raid that was only mentioned as a side not in the manwha and novel we got to see the S rank way earlier honestly it was just fantastic no notes!

Book vs Anime
GKoeneke5 February 2024
I was surprised to see they are sticking to the books with the pace. I've seen a lot of Book to Anime series over the last 2 years and most of them speed it up. In fact, I think they've ruined 'Berserk of Gluttony' by skipping way too much detail. This one, they are sticking to the pace and detail that was written. It makes sense since DUBU died and this is going to be an homage to him, no offense to Chugong who may be overshadowed here because of a death.

When an Anime Studio gets a hold of content, they make some strange decisions when it comes to time compression or what will/won't be okay with fans. Luckily, we are getting a real good version of the Anime in comparison with the books..........which is the entire reason it's been so popular.

This series has been a success because the story and characters are intelligently written and there is a beginning and an ending that takes a while to get to, but not too long and not the 'Never Ending Story'.

One thing I've noticed, the Studio didn't try to take a Brutal Novel/Manga series and try to make it "Family Friendly" which is happening way too much lately. This is brutal because it's the only way to define the Protagonist's drive and how he ends up. Kudos for keeping most of the brutality of the world Chugong created.

I gave this 10/10 because the story speaks to me and they didn't screw up the Anime.....to this point.

The pacing doesn't do it justice
nerdgasms6 February 2024
I'm a huge fan of the manhwa. The first time I read it, I literally couldn't go to sleep until I caught up which was pretty deep into the story. I think it's probably one of the best manhwa/manga/comic ever.

The anime is just not doing it justice so far though. People who are watching this for the first time who haven't read it are going to get such a worse experience mostly due to the pacing.

The first episode made it seem like such a cliche Shonen type of story and I think it's mostly due to the pacing. The manhwa has JJK levels of pacing while the anime is almost one piece level in comparison.

The first 2 episodes, or at least the scenes involving Sung should've easily been 1 episode. It would've concluded that small fight and got people hooked.

Also, the drama. Obviously when reading it you almost create your own tension but man it's a whole different world with the anime. The music playing during the fight completely throws it off. In the comic the statue room is extremely tense but in the anime it just plays out like a standard anime.

Hopefully this gets better but right now I highly advise anyone to read it instead. It is worlds better.

Bland and generic
epic_nerull11 April 2024
This anime has no plot it's just mindless slaughter of enemy after enemy while the character levels up. It's literally a power fantasy of some gamer.

If you like to watch game streams, you may enjoy this anime. Do not think too much, there is no plot, just go into dungeon defeats enemy, go to next dungeon defeats another enemy and so on and on.

I do not understand the hype, any other shonen around is way, way better than this thing. The author even looks like he forgot this was not an isekai and the main character just transforms in some random more cute version of himself and just go away with it.

The fighting scenes are not even that good.

Just bad
wyzarcompetente30 March 2024
The whole story is basically a masturbation for the MC (and viewer), he literally goes from being a nobody to attracting all the girls, becoming 5 inches taller and having a bodybuilder's body in one episode for no reason at all.

The characters are shallow, his sister and mother are just there to make him have a sad back story and his dungeon partners are just there to make him seem even stronger.

It's not funny, it's not exciting, it doesn't have good characters, the story is confusing and the fights that should have been the good part hold no weight because they have no emotion or stakes, you don't care if anyone there dies, because they mean nothing to the story, everybody there is NPC with no development at all.

From Bleach fan....Inspiring and sort of déjà vu..
mesoreznica4 March 2024
As I said I am huge fan of Bleach anime.

And when I started whatching this I felt déjà vu..

In Bleach you had Hollow monsters attacking humans, Shinigami with special powers killing them...aaaaand there was Ichigo with almost no powers (underestimated by all) getting stronger... and stronger... and stronger, never giving up. And with Ichigo was his cute, scared lady friend Orihime with healing powers...total déjà vu.

But story is different. I like this game level up system. It is crazy idea and it works.

Also the whole idea that you need magical weapons to kill monsters is great. And that magical swords dont last...so you need to make money to buy new stuff all the time. Power up, get new gear...and so on.

It is briliant. The whole story is like a game. Love it.

I think every gamer can feel the buzz here.

I also like that this anime dont drag things to much. It moves fast for anime.

I am at episode 8 atm. It is clear 9/10 for me.

Love it.

The new good thing in Anime
aleks_larsen17 February 2024
The new best anime? I think so. There is only a few episodes out so far. But I love it. The first episode starts kind of slow, but it ends on a high note. What happens from here is very exiting and you just want to see more. The universe even tho it takes a lot of influense from games seem to have lots of potential and even tho we at the current time is only on episode 6 you have still to reveal who the major charracters will be beside the main charracter. I cant wait to see more and I pray the quality of the show will stay as it is, because this looks very good so far. The only thing I dont like is that the episodes are to short. I would rater like to have 2 episodes as 1. So instead of 6 maybe we should have 3. Cant wait to see the next chapter. Its not often Im this exited for a new show. I think Attack on Titan was the last time.

Btw: Some might find the first episode a little slow, but I promis it will be worth it.

FIRST REVIEW OF THE SHOW 10/10
kadir_sufi7 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's a good one not bad I like it I bleave the show will be perfect in coming days so I can't wait for it. I only watch the quality animes and this will be one of them I don't watch attack on titan I did left it after the first season because they were asking too many unnecessary question like "who are these titans, what are they, where they came from" it's so ironic bcz it was already obvious that they were humans. They were keep asking these questions over and over again so I left that one. But I did watch Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, HxH, Vineland saga, samurai Champloo, death note, cowboy bebop, chainsaw man, come to think of it it looks like I haven't watched too much animes hmm. Wait a minute I just realized it lol. Nevermind the thing is I watch quality content and since I'm also gonna watch this that means this show is 10/10.

Great Adaptation
amirconversation17 February 2024
I just created an IMDB account just to rate a solid 10 to this masterpiece. This is just the beginning!

The animation team is doing a great Adaptation of the manhua. A-1 Picture rocks as always, hats off to all staff.

Its now episode 6 which im currently writing this review.

Each episodes adapt roughly 3-5 chapters of the manhua. The fight scenes are actually getting amazing from episode 4 and above. They are putting most effort and budget on the last episodes i guess. The art and graphics are mind blowing thanks to each animator behind the scene.

All in all, if you haven't read the manhua yet it could be a little bit confusing but everything would be alright if there would be a season 2!

All i can say, Amazing, Amazing, Amazing!!!

Arise my man
musicart19856 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
After S01.

Spoilers obviously!

This is a place for review not for kissing a**** so if your review is good or bad just be honest, that's all I'm saying.

This anime is okey but not great, people who didn't read the Manhwa must be super confused, and thinking we made a big deal out of nothing, just read the Manhwa please.

One suggestion for all anime maker, if you can't fit it in 1 episode make the episodes longer like 1 hour each, I know you have your own reason (all anime industry) but there is no reason to butcher the story like this,

They amazed us with just drawing and you couldn't do it with motions and sound and voices all together, think about it and correct you wrong in next season please.

The fights take way more time in the books in a way but here... come on they gave it to you guys (Japanese) to make it awesome not mediocre.

And you did a great sin to change a very special moment for me, when he's trying to arise Igris, you guys change the dynamics of the scene and on top of that add some extra nonsense sentences (in English subtitles), the actual lines are like this and when reading it you can feel the atmosphere changes and the music getting louder and he says:

Stop protecting the seat of someone who has already left... And try protecting me, who is in front of you.

ARISE. Goosebumps Every time I read this in the Manhwa

Why did you change one of the greatest moments in this story, who gave you permission for that, you guys disappointed me big time.

The voice actors are great so far,

Art: I know you holding yourself back right now to make awesome when he gets most of his shadows but what about you making it awesome now and when that moment comes make it EPIC ;)

Now about the whole story: Around chapter 120-135 something changed doesn't matter what, but the pace of story completely changed and it was like they trying to finish it faster and after the story in chapter 179 finishes, it left few holes behind (kind of) like:

Super spoilers: Where was his dad and why they didn't show his past when he teleported to other side or whatever happened to him

And When some mobs said that how they get there and what they were doing before like the elf dude and the demon girl and others, why not showing there home places and the moment they got kidnapped.

And the big dragon in US and his fight At least a little bit more information

Now something for fans: There is a game called Path of Exile

In this game you can be a necromancer and when you level up you can have some skeleton soldiers following you or some zombies And lvl up again you can ARISE some special ones, they can be guards or spiders and have special attacks or buffs or debuffs and they look like shadow but white so ghost :) and if you think about this story you feel it while playing the game My favourite game

In overall the anime is good 👍

Style with Substance: Tge Breakout Manhwa
nightringer-768401 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Manhwa is a new term among the manga and anime fans. Manhwa is manga originating in South Korea. Solo Leveling was developed in partnership between Korea and Japan production house.

What's unique about Solo Leveling is the hero Jinwoo was zero to hero journey with unusual methods of leveling up. In the world where the most jobs available are as hunters, exploring dungeons and executing quests, Jinwoo is the weakest of all hunters. Despite being an assassin (hence the short blade), Jinwoo always got hurt of cut or bleed. Then he sacrificed himself to safe what left of his team members from a devastating double dungeon quest. He reached a secret quest as he was dying and earned "Player" status. Then the craziness was started.

Jinwoo's player mission formed him into a Class A or S hunter by the end of the season by finishing daily quest thrown at him by player virtual dashboard.

What's new and unique were the quests Jinwoo must completed everyday while he keeps maintaining his status as the lowest ranking hunter class E, but in truth he probably has reached class A.

First season was very successful, maintaining South Korean action style of bloody and fast actions combined with explosive Japanese anime style. And the cliff hanger ended first season by upgrading Jinwoo to a new secret job category, necromancer. Season 2 will be exciting as Jinwoo will being his own army of dead knights with him to be summoned at anytime.

Its a entertaining show.
steven7u720 April 2024
Season 1 has a nice introduction, with how events in the first episode developed and concluded in the next one. It was thrilling to see whether the characters will be capable to solve the challenge and the many sacrifices they had to do to survive, showing their honest side, and how impactful what happened there was for them.

After the first and second episodes, the rest of the season was a bit slow and spent more time with the main character training and giving some focus to the secondary characters, which's a plus since the manhwa barely did something with them, but that's it. A lot of time, the protagonist is in some place leveling up by killing monsters - or humans if he doesn't have a choice - but there are times where he felt more challenged because of some unexpected situations, making it a bit more entertaining than usual to watch; then there's the rest of the characters, which they didn't do much, most of them did few things here and there but nothing major. The whole first season felt like an introduction, being there to introduce characters, setting up future events, and having the protagonist grinding levels to be ready for those future events.

Aside from characters, the world building is lacking a bit on development. For an anime where characters have to fight inside of dungeons, there's not much information about it, the series shows how dungeons affected human society in many ways: the economy, health (for the better or worst), or hunters' influences over society; but not much about a simpler topic: the dungeon itself. What's the dungeon's ecosystem? Are there even food (plants or something edible) in that place? If not, then how can monsters stay alive in such a rocky area? Or why a lot of dungeon are rocky lands? The dungeon's world building is just as important as any world building in the series, and such a relevant topic being wasted for unknown reasons

To finish things up, Solo Leveling is an anime that has many ideas placed in the table but just a few of them gets to stand out. Throughout the first season, the main focus are the main character and the fights, the rest are either showing up a bit to let the viewers know that they exist or just there being overshadowed by those two. Hoping season 2 get to focus more than just the main character and fights.

Amazing - Even for casual anime fans
imtherealtrademark14 March 2024
Amazing and attention grabbing anime. I'm only a casual anime fan but I watched every episode of this in only two days. Highly recommend to casual and hardcore fans alike.the main character is extremely relatable in his journey. The cast of supporting characters is also excellent. The heroes motives are good and pure, and something you can really get behind. The battles are entertaining and visually stunning. They are also not overly long, which is what keeps me from watching a lot of other animes. The concept behind the story itself is especially fun if you enjoy videogames, even on a casual level. 10/10 I will be rewatching.

Appears more dry than I thought it would
mr-altex24 March 2024
Of course I've read the manga so I am already bias going into this, but I will just try to focus on the anime only.

I don't understand some story telling "details" while missing some fill in moments that would help the format. New characters are being introduced randomly, they just pop in into the story with some random snippet of information that I do not care about at that point. Chairman, association, other guilds, everything could be introduced in more natural way to anime format.

Story telling in this adaptation is super dry, to the point of asking "what's the point of the anime?" Practicing some animation tricks to introduce rapid motion to the scenes? I guess, because just loud shouts to try to put some emotions into scenes aren't enough.

It is still good, but it feels like even the epic moments won't be as epic, as the build up will be lacking and moment will be gone as quickly as they get to it.

An extremely bland and generic power fantasy
kyuubicreeper4 March 2024
The title says it all, it is an extremely bland and generic power fantasy that follows the same tropes as that of an Isekai anime. The anime/manga/LN don't bring anything new to the genre and there's nothing in this that hasn't been done by other media of the same genre. The reason for its hype is that its extremely simple to watch where you can just turn your brain off and enjoy the fancy visuals without giving any real thought to the story. There is little to no character development and the story falls off after the first 50 chapters. When speaking of character development, we need to clarify that getting stronger does not equate to character development. The only way we see JW developing is by getting stronger, there's no real motivation and no real purpose for him fighting. His only real character development comes in the first 60 chapters and then it just focuses on him getting stronger. Like I said its a piece of media one can enjoy if they only turn their brain off and don't focus on anything. Extremely mid and overhyped, boring world building, extremely basic character development but excellent art style.

thank you A-1 Picture
GreenDZ20 February 2024
Frankly, I did not expect the manhwa to be adapted into an anime, especially since the story borrows many ideas from other works...

But the popularity of manhwa comes from the fun it provides in character development...

Famous works derive their fame from the fact that their fans are convinced of their idea and wish to be like the hero of the story...

How wonderful it is to be a player and have the ability to raise your potential with every effort you make. Wait.... this is really the principle of life, so let's enjoy this wonderful anime...

thank you SO much A-1 Picture, keep up the hard work guys.

Solo Levelling
zaidhussen2 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Solo Leveling is very good and if the story program it will become more crazier and if they improve the animation more this will be a masterpiece. And if they pull of the Jeju Island raid it will be amazing. The next arc will be the Red gate arc and it will show the power of the shadow monarch Sung Jin Woo and it will establish Sung Jin Woo as of not the strongest but one of the most strongest character in Solo Leveling. I hope they release solo Leveling season 2 as soon as possible. I am very big fan of solo Levelling and in fact i completed the solo Leveling manhwa in 3 days after the 6th episode.solo Levelling is one of my favourite manga/manhwa i have ever read and I hope they pull it off in the anime. ARISE!
