The Alien franchise is set to continue on the small screen with an “FX on Hulu” TV series from Fargo creator Noah Hawley, a show that began filming last year, then had to halt production after a month due to the actors strike. It’s been a few months since we’ve heard any news about this project, as director Fede Alvarez’s film Alien: Romulus (which is set to reach theatres on August 16th) has been getting all of the attention, but now Deadline has confirmed that filming has resumed in Thailand – and Sandra Yi Sencindiver of Foundation has joined the cast to play “a senior member of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation” in multiple episodes. “We hear there’s scope for the character to grow in future seasons.”

There’s a lot going on in the world of Alien at the moment. The original classic is returning to theaters, for starters, and the Xenomorphs will be fighting Marvel’s superheroes in the upcoming mashup comic Aliens vs. Avengers. Of course, the main event for 2024 is Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus, a brand new big screen movie set between Alien and Aliens!
With so much going on, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that Disney is also working on an “Alien” television series, in the works for FX from creator Noah Hawley (“Legion”).
The Alien franchise’s first ever television series is likely to arrive sometime in 2025, set to be the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.
FX teases, “Expect a scary thrill ride set not too far in the future here on Earth.”
So what’s the latest on the “Alien” TV series?...

Go back to the early 2000s and there is no way that you won’t know the Hollywood heartthrob, Josh Hartnett. Famous for his incredible filmography from Pearl Harbor to Black Hawk Down, the actor vanished from the film industry while still at the top of his career. Yet starting in 2023, the actor made a remarkable comeback and went on to star in the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer.
Josh Harnett will next be seen in Trap
And now he will be seen next in M. Night Shyamalan’s horror thriller, Trap. Portraying a serial killer, the trailer is enough for fans to be convinced that the actor has one hell of a performance in store for them. As the whole world seems to be hypnotized by his incredible performance, it is a no-brainer that his resurgence can be dubbed as the Brendan Fraser Effect.

Given the success of Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout Season 1, a follow-up season has now been confirmed. Fans are thrilled as this might address many unanswered questions, and maybe even see a few theories come to fruition. Unanswered as they may seem to us, a lot of the lore is set in stone- either from the games, or with the creative team having mapped out the rest of the show.
The leading cast of Fallout
That said, it doesn’t stop fans from theorizing about what’s to come. And for the hardcore gamers, it begs another question- Did the show change the canon timeline and events as established by the games? Well, yes and no. With a non-linear story, one could argue that Fallout provides the perfect template for creative vision to differ from the games.
But at the same time, with a show that’s based off of the popular video game series,...

Over 50 years of British sci-fi television, the genre went from one golden age to another. The 1970s gave us bleakly devastating visions of the future, the 1980s gave us space invasions and comedy, the 1990s blended crime drama with sci-fi, and the 2000s remade shows from the 1970s and gave us Christopher Eccleston as two kinds of god.
Then came the 2010s, the birth of transatlantic co-productions and streaming. British sci-fi television was no longer the cheaper, shoddier counterpart to its US equivalent. The production values were glossy, the cast reached A-list heights, and the writing was what you’d expect from the most recent golden age of television. The age of cheap and cheerful sitcom-adjacent British science fiction was over… almost.

The trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s new thriller Trap has arrived, giving a glimpse into Josh Hartnett’s performance as an unexpected serial killer. Watch the full clip below.
In Trap, Harnett plays a father who takes his teen daughter to a concert performed by pop star Lady Raven. The film interweaves the story with Lady Raven’s performance, taking place in near-real time.
Beginning as a wholesome family experience, the trailer drastically shifts in tone when Hartnett’s character discovers the police have set up a trap (get it?) at the concert to capture a notorious serial killer called The Butcher. Seemingly giving away the film’s big twist, Harnett is revealed to be The Butcher.
Written and directed by Shyamalan, Trap also stars Ariel Donoghue, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill. It’s set to arrive in theaters on August 9th.

Josh Hartnett stars in M Night Shyamalan’s latest film – the serial killer, Trap. Watch the new trailer here:
Having popped up in Black Mirror and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, we’re getting plenty of Josh Hartnett on our screens. My teenage self is very happy.
The actor will next be seen in M Night Shyamalan’s latest film, Trap. Details on the film have been scarce, but we do know it centres on a serial killer attending a concert.
Well, there’s a Trap trailer now. Here it is:
Hartnett plays a serial killer who takes his teenage daughter to see Lady Raven in concert, only to find out the police are unto him and the whole thing is an elaborate plan to catch him.

Exclusive: Industry star Myha’la has joined Lily James in 20th Century’s upcoming movie inspired by the story of Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble and co-founder of Tinder.
We understand filming is due to get underway in LA early next month.
20th Century Studios and Ethea Entertainment, the production company formed by Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay, are behind the project, which has James in the lead role.
After co-founding Tinder, Wolfe Herd left the dating app in 2014. She went on to launch competitor Bumble that same year. In 2021, the company went public and she officially became one of the youngest self-made billionaires at age 31. She would step down as CEO in 2023 but by then the app had become a huge success with several divisions that are still thriving today.

With his latest film “Trap,” filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan is letting the audience in on one of his signature twists a little earlier this time around.
In a new trailer for the thriller, which was first shown during the Warner Bros. CinemaCon presentation in early April, star Josh Harnett is first shown as a dad taking his teenage daughter to a pop concert akin to one of the blockbuster tours that dominated summer 2023. Leaving his seat for the bathroom, Hartnett’s character notices a higher-than-normal police presence around the venue and asks a concessions worker if he knows what’s going on.
Turns out, that Lady Raven concert is a sting operation to catch a serial killer on the loose in the city. After thanking the worker for the tip, Hartnett goes into the bathroom stall, pulls out his phone, and opens an app that reveals security footage of a...

Warner Bros. has released the trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s latest mystery thriller “Trap,” starring Josh Hartnett, Saleka Shyamalan, Hayley Mills and Marnie McPhail.
According to the official logline, “Trap” follows a “father and teen daughter attending a pop concert, where they realize they’re at the center of a dark and sinister event.” The film’s first look was screened at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
In the trailer, Hartnett’s character and his daughter, Jody, are at the concert of pop star Lady Raven. When Hartnett runs off to the bathroom, he sees that there is a heavy police presence at the concert and quickly learns they are there to catch a serial killer. The twist is that Hartnett is the killer they are looking for, and it is revealed on his phone that he is holding a victim hostage. The trailer ends with Hartnett maniacally laughing to himself.

A chimpanzee rests its chin on its hand, looking like the ape version of Rodin’s “The Thinker.” “There’s a picture of me somewhere sitting in that exact same position,” Owen Teague tells me before assuming a similar pose, swinging his long arm up and brushing his palm against the bottom of his face.
“There’s something very soft about the way that chimps move. Their hands are just super loose.”
He’s no zoologist, but Teague, the 25-year-old star of next month’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” knows a thing or two about animal behavior. After landing the lead role of Noa, a chimpanzee living in a post-apocalyptic world where humans have surrendered their apex predator status, Teague spent days at a Florida ape sanctuary. That’s where he got up close and personal with primates — well, except for the orangutans. “Man, they smell terrible,...

The best thing about science fiction is that no two takes on it are ever quite the same. That’s what gives the genre such wide-ranging appeal: There are sci-fi dramas, sci-fi thrillers, sci-fi horror, animated sci-fi… you name it, someone’s put it into the universe. The most engaging sci-fi stories can make you feel like you too are traversing another planet.
If you’re looking for something to watch that’s an escape from this world, check out this list. These sci-fi shows, from the mind-bending Black Mirror to the suspenseful Alice in Borderland, play around within the confines of the genre — and they’re all totally worth your time.

Tom Ripley is getting another chance on the awards circuit. The sinister con artist, created by author Patricia Highsmith in a series of novels, is played by Andrew Scott in the new limited series “Ripley” from Netflix. A quarter-century ago a variation of the same story was told in Anthony Minghella‘s film “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” but while that iteration received five Oscar nomination, it was snubbed for Best Picture, and star Matt Damon was left out of Best Actor. Can Scott make up for that with a nom for Best Movie/Limited Actor?
Damon’s portrayal of Tom Ripley had more warmth to it, a sense of longing (“I always thought it would be better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody”). He was a tragic monster who trapped himself in a web of lies and murder. Scott’s performance suggests someone more methodical and calculating.

“Outwardly, he gives the impression that he doesn’t care very much,” Gary Oldman recently said about portraying a disgraced MI5 agent on the acclaimed AppleTV+ spy drama “Slow Horses,” explaining that underneath his disheveled exterior, there’s so much more to the man than what meets the eye. “He’s unkempt, and he uses it to play a game. It’s a defense mechanism, and I would say he cares a lot more than most.”
Oldman is mesmerizing in “Slow Horses” as the aloof and often contemptuous Jackson Lamb. He’s a pariah living out his twilight days as the begrudging leader of a group of fellow outcasts to whom he is almost comically obnoxious and offensive. He is truly captivating every time he’s on screen. So, a brilliant performance deserves a brilliant Emmy campaign. Paramount is looking to get a new Star Trek film in cinemas in 2025 – but why this adventure, and where might things go? A few thoughts.
Another week, another Star Trek film announcement. So currently goes the online discourse for the seemingly endless array of Star Trek cinematic announcements we have experienced for almost ten years since the last big screen endeavour, Star Trek Beyond, in 2016.
As I in part chronicle in my book Lost Federations: The Unmade History of Star Trek, that decade has seen us face promises of movies including Chris Hemsworth returning as Captain James T Kirk’s legendary father in a time travel installment; Noah Hawley of Fargo fame penning a tale about a deadly virus (perhaps understandably shelved after a certain pandemic…); directors including Matt Shakman and Sj Clarkson coming and going; even Quentin Tarantino considering turning The Original Series gangster episode ‘A Piece of the Action’ into a movie event.

This article contains major spoilers for Civil War (2024)
From the vastly untapped and underrated vision of Alex Garland comes yet another Oscar-winning project. Civil War stands out as an exceptionally well-drawn-out feature that presents itself as a thesis on the modern world, its ghastly conflicts, and the ultimate breakdown of social order. But through the mind-bending craft of actors like Jesse Plemons, the conflict finds a mouthpiece. Plemons not only acts his part but embodies the evil that permeates throughout the storyline.

This is a stacked weekend for movies that could get awards attention but probably won’t, both in theaters and on digital platforms. First up is a lively ode to one of cinema’s musical masters.
The contender to watch this week: “Ennio”
Giuseppe Tornatore‘s documentary about influential composer Ennio Morricone has been a long time coming, and not only because Morricone’s career dates back to 1946. “Ennio” premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in 2021 and was released in Italy in 2022. But don’t take its delayed domestic debut as a bad omen: The movie is a spellbinding tribute to the two-time Oscar winner, who wrote the scores for “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” “Days of Heaven,” “The Untouchables,” “The Hateful Eight,” and Tornatore’s own “Cinema Paradiso.” The talking heads include Quentin Tarantino, Clint Eastwood, Quincy Jones, and Bruce Springsteen. Paramount Pictures has finally unclogged the Star Trek franchise on the big screen – and a new film is landing in 2025.
Since 2016 and the release of Star Trek Beyond, it’s little secret that Paramount Pictures has been struggling to work out what to do with big screen Trek. While the franchise is thriving on the small screen, getting a new film going has proven taxing. Infamously, Quentin Tarantino was noodling with a possible project at one point, while director Sj Clarkson was hired at one stage too, before she went on to do Madame Web instead.
There’s been uncertainty as to whether the ‘Kelvin’ crew from the last three films would be back, and there’s been uncertainty over whether it’s all going to have a day-one reboot.
Now? We have an answer. Earlier this year there was the suggestion that Paramount was looking to do a Star Trek origin film.

Captain's Log: Stardate 2024. It's been eight years since the USS Enterprise's last voyage on the big screen, with the franchise having since returned to its roots on television. During that period, the property has proliferated thanks to an influx of streaming series that's included everything from a "Next Generation" reunion to a raunchy cartoon and a wonderfully silly musical episode. But through it all, the question has lingered: when will Trekkies get to undertake another mission painted on the largest canvas available?
It's not been for lack of effort on Paramount's part. Ever since the commercial disappointment of 2016's "Star Trek Beyond" brought the escapades of the Kelvin Universe film series to a halt, the studio has cycled through one filmmaker after another in its quest to get "Star Trek" up and running in theaters once more. Ever since the commercial disappointment of 2016's "Star Trek Beyond" brought the escapades of the Kelvin Universe film series to a halt, the studio has cycled through one filmmaker after another in its quest to get "Star Trek" up and running in theaters once more. Most recently, it turned to "Black Mirror" director Toby Haynes to helm...

First, there was “The Last of Us,” set decades into a pandemic caused by a mass fungal infection. “And Then There Was Fungi,” at least according to GloSketch, presenting its new factual documentary series during K-Contents showcase at MipTV.
“Scientists agree that fungi could cause the next pandemic and we are unprepared,” pointed out Song Daeil, explaining that the show was inspired by a novel written by Agatha Christie.
“However, this time, the criminal is not a person. It’s killer fungi!”
Over the course of four episodes, each 30 minutes-long, the makers will try to answer one pressing question: Have fungi suddenly turned against humanity? After all, no one is safe from it – not even your hot beverages.

The 21st century is when everything changes.
British science fiction has been a lot of things. It was both cheesier and campier than its American counterpart, and yet also darker, grittier, and less afraid to tackle grown-up themes and bleaker outcomes. It had been a joke, and critically acclaimed, and it had all but died off except for some under-the-radar contenders.
And then something major happened: Doctor Who came back. It was always going to happen eventually – just look how many times The Tomorrow People has been remade. But Doctor Who didn’t just come back, it came back and became the biggest show in the country, on purpose.
Suddenly, the people in charge thought that maybe TV shows about ideas, and technology, and realities ahead of and besides our own could draw an audience, only this time they were taking it seriously and spending actual money on it. And...

St. Patrick’s Day was last month, but this week is all about the Irish. Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng are here to discuss two highly anticipated shows premiering this week headlined by two of Ireland’s finest actors: “Ripley,” starring Andrew Scott, and “Sugar,” starring Colin Farrell.
“Ripley,” which dropped all eight episodes on Thursday on Netflix, is Steven Zaillian‘s adaptation of Patricia Highsmith‘s “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and stars Scott as the titular con artist who murders and impersonates rich kid Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn). Shot in black and white by Oscar winner Robert Elswit, the limited series is a more faithful adaptation of the novel than Anthony Minghella‘s 1999 film and is basically an eight-episode showcase for Scott as Tom Ripley tries to get away with murder. After his “Fleabag” snub and a guest nomination for “Black Mirror,” is “Ripley...

One of the more persistent conversations that has buoyed several decades worth of nerd conversations is the old "Star Trek" vs. "Star Wars" saw. Do you, dear reader, prefer stern diplomacy, mechanically inclined stories, ethical dilemmas, and constant reference to classic literature of the Western Canon? Then "Star Trek" is for you. You may, however, prefer fable-like tales of derring-do, heroic space-bound violence, and archetypal myths of good vs. evil. If you like your sci-fi to have an ancient flavor and fantastical elements out of King Arthur, then you may prefer "Star Wars."
Which one is better? The answer, of course, is "Star Trek." But which one is more successful and widespread? Frustratingly, the answer is "Star Wars." "Star Trek" has long been more successful on TV, telling hour-long morality tales and pushing up against low budgets. It was about multiculturalism and equality. "Star Wars," meanwhile, got its mileage from simple tales of violent victory,...

"We need to find the real Bodkin. Bad things happen here just like everywhere else." Netflix has revealed the official trailer for a streaming series arriving this summer titled Bodkin, set in Ireland in an idyllic Irish town. Described as a "dark comedy thriller" about podcasters who get lost chasing a cold case. Obviously a riff on the true crime craze! Produced by the Obamas' Higher Ground Productions. A group of podcasters set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic Irish town. When they start to pull the strings, they find a story much bigger and stranger than they could have imagined. The series stars Siobhán Cullen as Dove, Robyn Cara as Emmy, Chris Walley as Sean O’Shea, David Wilmot as Seamus, and Will Forte as Gilbert. It was filmed in Dublin, Wicklow, and West Cork, and it looks gorgeous. Of course it also reminds...

On April 5, Roddenberry Entertainment, the company behind the “Star Trek” universe, launches a brand new sci-fi podcast called “Does It Fly?” that answers one of the biggest questions sci-fi geeks love to ponder: Could the technology we love in out-there science fiction franchises someday exist in real life?
We’re talking about the “Star Trek” transporter, the subject of the first episode, as well as the lightsabers in “Star Wars,” the replicants in “Blade Runner,” Iron Man’s Arc Reactor, the Tardis from “Doctor Who,” and the technological and philosophical questions raised in the “Black Mirror” episode “San Junipero” — all will be episode topics in the future on the podcast, which will be hosted by astrophysicist and science communicator Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi and pop-culture aficionado Tamara Krinsky.

Say what you will of the Netflix era of "Black Mirror," but there's at least one episode everyone agrees is pretty great. "USS Callister," the season 4 premiere centered around a guy who reveals his ugly side in his own personal VR video game, is a clear fan favorite. What made it so good? Well, there's the way it gives us the usual final act twist surprisingly early on, revealing that it's Nanette (Cristin Milioti) who's our actual, far-more-likeable protagonist. Then there's the way the episode's main setting, a "Star Trek"-inspired virtual reality world that the characters are left to explore, leads to so many more storytelling opportunities ahead of them. (That's why the news that the episode's getting a sequel shouldn't be too surprising.)
But the main appeal of "USS Callister" is just how emotionally resonant its main plot point is. Seemingly nice guy Robert Daly is gradually revealed...

Five months before Paapa Essiedu took the stage as a flirty clinical-trial participant in The Effect, he attempted to run a half marathon in southwest England. After going “too high and too fast,” Essiedu says he collapsed due to extreme hydration and low blood sugar levels. With swordfights, corsets, a sprinkle of magic and an array of truly magnificent hats (including one worn by a poodle), new Disney+ original series “Renegade Nell” has more than a touch in common with that other swashbuckling Disney staple “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
Both are set at the turn of the 17th to 18th centuries and, as with “Pirates,” the period details in “Renegade Nell” abound. In Nov. 2022, just as the show moved into the final phase of production, Variety was invited to visit Ealing Studios in West London where the wood-panelled Stuart-era sets were studded with quill pens and wax seals while an imposing portrait of Joely Richardson — in costume as the extravagantly-outfitted and wigged baddie Lady Eularia Moggerhangar — hung on the wall.

Aubrey Plaza and Dan Levy, the stars of “Happiest Season,” are reunited for short film “Decades of Confusion,” which is basically a commercial for fashion brand Loewe. If only Plaza could spell it.
It ain’t your average retail ad: “Black Mirror” director Ally Pankiw directed the short that was penned by “Good Grief” and “Schitt’s Creek” star Levy.
Plaza stars as a contestant in a spelling bee that spans each decade from 1971 to the present day. Levy is the (frustrated) judge. Plaza may not be able to spell “Loewe”, but she sure can put together an outfit from the fashion house. Plaza combs the Loewe archives to transform into a new character for the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, 2000s…

As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside the hotel’s doors, Rostov’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. As he builds a new life within the walls of the hotel, he discovers the true value of friendship, family and love.

Those teen drama TV series are not to be taken lightly. Because they could produce the most promising Oscar-nominated or winning actors. For example, consider Skins, created by Jamie Brittain and Bryan Elsley.
Every episode usually centers on a specific character or group of characters and the challenges they encounter in their daily lives. Themes of mental illness, dysfunctional families, bullying, and s*icide were also covered in greater detail. Not only did Skins receive positive reviews and good box office results, but it also gained a cult following. Of course, this is due to the stellar cast.

Jordan Peele also agreed on this. Unbelievably, he has not watched Skins but he still gives the popular TV series credit for “producing” two of the best actors in contemporary film history—Dev Patel and Daniel Kaluuya.

Twin Peaks. Sunnydale. Castle Rock. Hawkins… America’s TV monopoly on small towns where Weird Stuff Happens has gone on for too long. For a show as ambitious as "The Twilight Zone," with seemingly so many storytelling opportunities to choose from, it's vital to maintain a bit of structure. Not only did the first three seasons stick to a clear 22-minute format with narration and act breaks happening right on cue, but there were clear guidelines on how speculative they should get and how much they should always be asking of their audience. According to the producer Buck Houghton in his 1991 book "What a Producer Does," he and creator Rod Serling established a list of rules that every episode needed to follow. An episode could be about nearly any speculative premise, they decided early on, as long as it remembered to do a few things:
"Find an interesting character, or a group, at a moment in crisis in life, and get there quickly; then lay on some magic. That magic must be devilishly...

When it comes to keeping the momentum for storytelling, writers from hit shows such as True Detective: Night Country, Irish hit dramedy Faithless and British superhero comedy Extraordinary all have different approaches for making returnable television series.
Speaking at the inaugural screenwriting festival Storyhouse in Dublin, Irish writer-actor and presenter Baz Ashmawy spoke about his debut writing project Faithless, a six-part series for Virgin Media, which follows an Irish-Egyptian dad who is presented with the life-changing responsibility of raising his three young daughters alone.
“I was more clear on the tone of it because I saw a gap in Irish shows that were either sitcoms pre watershed or crime dramas,” said Ashmawy to a packed theatre at Dublin’s Light House cinema. “I saw there was a hole for dramedy – to make someone laugh one minute and then upset them in the next scene. I’ve always found that playing...

At Series Mania Thursday, Cathy Payne, CEO of distributor Banijay Rights, said it is “tough out there” in the post-peak market for scripted content.
“It is challenging to fund scripted, especially at the high-end. In a market where a couple of years ago you may have been able to take a larger risk now you want to see that underpinned,” she said. “In general, with the market and the changes, people are more conservative; there is not as much risk-taking.”
She added: “When we look at financing a show it’s not about getting the money to make season one, I have to think about how we are going to fund this for three to five seasons.”
Payne said, in this climate, “you just have to find a way of working through.” She added: “As someone once said to me, ‘You’ve kind of just got to be scrappy.’ You’ve just got to think,...

The boss of one of the world’s biggest TV distributors has predicted streamers will return to commissioning originals in bulk once they “break even.”
Cathy Payne, who runs Big Brother and Black Mirror seller Banijay Rights, said there is “no doubt” the deep-pocketed U.S. giants are currently ordering less originals, preferring to strike alternative deals such as “enhanced pre-sale acquisitions.”
“It’s well documented that streamers have had difficulty in reaching their targets and streamers launching in markets has been tough economically, with high interest rates and so on,” she added. “There is no doubt the streamers are commissioning less originals and are rather looking for enhanced pre-sales acquisitions till they get to a point where they’re breaking even, then they’ll come back with more originals.”
Payne added: “It’s not subscribers at any cost, services have to make money.”

BAFTA announced its TV award nominations today with Netflix’s “The Crown” leading the way with eight nominations. Another Netflix show, “Demon 79 (Black Mirror),” came in second with seven nominations while BBC’s “Happy Valley,” Apple TV’s “Slow Horses,” and BBC’s “The Sixth Commandment” all snagged six bids apiece.
Several US shows did well, too, with HBO’s “The Last of Us” and “Succession” each receiving five nominations — the same as ITV’s drama “The Long Shadow.” The BBC documentary “Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland” and “The Eurovision Song Contest 2023” each received four bids.
“The Crown” was nominated in all the big categories, including Best Drama Series, Actor for Dominic West, and Supporting Actor for Salim Daw. It also received two Supporting Actress nominations — Lesley Manville and SAG winner Elizabeth Debicki.

The BAFTA TV Awards nominations are out for 2024 and, while Netflix is winning headlines after strong showings for The Crown and Black Mirror, there were some snubs and surprises.
Black Mirror’s strong showing is perhaps among the eyebrow-raisers after Charlie Brooker’s dystopian anthology series received mixed reviews and has not exactly been generating awards buzz.
The Netflix drama, now in its sixth season, garnered seven nominations for Demon 79, five of which were in the BAFTA Television Craft Awards, including best drama writer for Brooker and Bisha K. Ali.
The episode, in which a demon instructs a mild-mannered sales assistant to go on a killing spree, is up for best limited drama, while star Anjana Vasan is a surprise runner in the leading actress race.
Born in India, Vasan’s inclusion in the category marks a departure from last year, when there was controversy over the all-white leading actress nominations,...
