Aubrey Plaza and Dan Levy, the stars of “Happiest Season,” are reunited for short film “Decades of Confusion,” which is basically a commercial for fashion brand Loewe. If only Plaza could spell it.
It ain’t your average retail ad: “Black Mirror” director Ally Pankiw directed the short that was penned by “Good Grief” and “Schitt’s Creek” star Levy.
Plaza stars as a contestant in a spelling bee that spans each decade from 1971 to the present day. Levy is the (frustrated) judge. Plaza may not be able to spell “Loewe”, but she sure can put together an outfit from the fashion house. Plaza combs the Loewe archives to transform into a new character for the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, 2000s…
“Wigs, iconic looks from the Loewe archive, and wrong answers — from 1971 to present day,” the tagline reads.
Plaza is next set to star in Ethan Coen’s dark comedy “Honey Don’t!...

Plot: Count Alexander Rostov, in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, finds that his gilded past has placed him on the wrong side of history. Spared immediate execution, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol and threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again. As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside the hotel’s doors, Rostov’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. As he builds a new life within the walls of the hotel, he discovers the true value of friendship, family and love.
Review: Ewan McGregor is a singular talent. The acclaimed actor can sing, share the screen with Winnie the Pooh, fight Darth Vader, and play a convincing heroin addict. He has also proven himself adept at sharing the screen with family members.

Those teen drama TV series are not to be taken lightly. Because they could produce the most promising Oscar-nominated or winning actors. For example, consider Skins, created by Jamie Brittain and Bryan Elsley.
Every episode usually centers on a specific character or group of characters and the challenges they encounter in their daily lives. Themes of mental illness, dysfunctional families, bullying, and s*icide were also covered in greater detail. Not only did Skins receive positive reviews and good box office results, but it also gained a cult following. Of course, this is due to the stellar cast.
Dev Patel in Skins
Jordan Peele also agreed on this. Unbelievably, he has not watched Skins but he still gives the popular TV series credit for “producing” two of the best actors in contemporary film history—Dev Patel and Daniel Kaluuya.

Twin Peaks. Sunnydale. Castle Rock. Hawkins… America’s TV monopoly on small towns where Weird Stuff Happens has gone on for too long. Britain was once home to The Wicker Man, Children of the Stones and The Prisoner, all classics of the ‘something’s not right here’ genre. Isn’t it about time the UK put a few creepy burgs back on the map?
Actor and debut screenwriter Andrew Buchan must think so, and his answer is ITV’s Passenger – a six-episode mystery series that’s Happy Valley meets…well, no spoilers here. Comedic and sinister with a terrific cast led by Loki’s Wunmi Mosaku, Passenger, from the producers of Gangs of London and Chernobyl, is a top binge-watch that’ll keep you entertained and guessing – hopefully into a second series and beyond.

A winner of 6 Primetime Emmys, among many other awards, Black Mirror has taken the world by storm since its humble beginnings on the UK's Channel 4, with many now considering it the best television anthology series of all time. From mindblowing visuals to eerily true-to-life sci-fi horror, Black Mirror has proven itself to be a series with its pulse on the zeitgeist, able to tap into the deepest fears of our modern world and adapt them into unique and breathtaking stories. For almost a decade, the series has been one of Netflix's flagship shows, with many grabbing their subscription just to indulge in the weird and wonderful world it offers. Not just beloved for its Twilight Zone-esque tales, Black Mirror is also adored for its ever-growing list of famous faces that appear in the ensemble, with the potential for everyone's favorite actor to turn up sometime soon, always enticing.

After wrapping up its sixth season with a horror story revolving around no technological babble whatsoever, Black Mirror is taking yet another step out of the sci-fi box it has put itself into. Its streamer, Netflix, has recently announced that the series will be pulling a first in its upcoming seventh season in the form of a sequel episode. The chosen one was Season 3’s beloved “USS Callister,” a Star Trek spoof with a relatively open ending that leaves a lot of room for imagination. Fans of the hit anthology series were excited, of course, and many jumped at the opportunity to discuss what other episodes of Black Mirror they would love to see a follow-up to in upcoming seasons. Favorites like “Be Right Back” and “Nosedive” are among some of the most popular choices, but, if we truly look at it, the Black Mirror episode that mostly deserves a...

For a show as ambitious as "The Twilight Zone," with seemingly so many storytelling opportunities to choose from, it's vital to maintain a bit of structure. Not only did the first three seasons stick to a clear 22-minute format with narration and act breaks happening right on cue, but there were clear guidelines on how speculative they should get and how much they should always be asking of their audience. According to the producer Buck Houghton in his 1991 book "What a Producer Does," he and creator Rod Serling established a list of rules that every episode needed to follow. An episode could be about nearly any speculative premise, they decided early on, as long as it remembered to do a few things:
"Find an interesting character, or a group, at a moment in crisis in life, and get there quickly; then lay on some magic. That magic must be devilishly...

This claustrophobic horror-thriller with two great performances keeps viewers guessing until the very end. Low stakes film with high tension that mirrors the anxiety and paranoia of our times in an eerie Australian setting. Influences from David Fincher and Mike Flanagan shine through in this small film.
What would happen if you enlisted Mike Flanagan to direct a Black Mirror episode that was written by the Duplass brothers? The hypothetically thrilling end result might look similar to You'll Never Find Me. Set in the eerie Australian outback, this new psychological horror entry drops on Shudder today, March 22, and is the debut feature from directing duo Josiah Allen and Indianna Bell.
Not familiar with their work? Not to worry. After all, their acclaimed short films, including The Recordist and Call Connect., are available on YouTube, in case you'd like to brush up. They're shorts, after all, and it might just pay...

When it comes to keeping the momentum for storytelling, writers from hit shows such as True Detective: Night Country, Irish hit dramedy Faithless and British superhero comedy Extraordinary all have different approaches for making returnable television series.
Speaking at the inaugural screenwriting festival Storyhouse in Dublin, Irish writer-actor and presenter Baz Ashmawy spoke about his debut writing project Faithless, a six-part series for Virgin Media, which follows an Irish-Egyptian dad who is presented with the life-changing responsibility of raising his three young daughters alone.
“I was more clear on the tone of it because I saw a gap in Irish shows that were either sitcoms pre watershed or crime dramas,” said Ashmawy to a packed theatre at Dublin’s Light House cinema. “I saw there was a hole for dramedy – to make someone laugh one minute and then upset them in the next scene. At Series Mania Thursday, Cathy Payne, CEO of distributor Banijay Rights, said it is “tough out there” in the post-peak market for scripted content.
“It is challenging to fund scripted, especially at the high-end. In a market where a couple of years ago you may have been able to take a larger risk now you want to see that underpinned,” she said. “In general, with the market and the changes, people are more conservative; there is not as much risk-taking.”
She added: “When we look at financing a show it’s not about getting the money to make season one, I have to think about how we are going to fund this for three to five seasons.”
Payne said, in this climate, “you just have to find a way of working through.” She added: “As someone once said to me, ‘You’ve kind of just got to be scrappy.’ You’ve just got to think,...

The BAFTA TV Awards nominations are out for 2024 and, while Netflix is winning headlines after strong showings for The Crown and Black Mirror, there were some snubs and surprises.
Black Mirror’s strong showing is perhaps among the eyebrow-raisers after Charlie Brooker’s dystopian anthology series received mixed reviews and has not exactly been generating awards buzz.
The Netflix drama, now in its sixth season, garnered seven nominations for Demon 79, five of which were in the BAFTA Television Craft Awards, including best drama writer for Brooker and Bisha K. Ali.
The episode, in which a demon instructs a mild-mannered sales assistant to go on a killing spree, is up for best limited drama, while star Anjana Vasan is a surprise runner in the leading actress race.

“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.
Netflix’s hit royal drama — which came to an end last year after six seasons — landed eight nominations in total, including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw in the performance categories. However, it missed out for drama series (an award it has been nominated for three times previously).
Just behind “The Crown” and also a Netflix production, the apocalyptic “Black Mirror” episode “Demon 79” earned seven nominations, including limited drama and leading actress for Anjana Vasan.
Further down in a tight group of frontrunners, BBC dramas “Happy Valley” and “The Sixth Commandment and Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses” each have six nominations. Sarah Lancashire’s leading actress nomination for “Happy Valley” could see...

The Crown’s swansong season has dominated the BAFTA TV nominations, picking up eight in a record year for Netflix.
Although it missed out in the coveted Drama Series category, four of the Netflix royal smash’s actors were handed nods today including Dominic West, who played Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki, who was Princess Diana. Salim Daw and Lesley Manville are the other two nominated actors and actresses, while The Crown also received nominations in the likes of costume design, make up and sound.
Netflix achieved a record haul and was second only to the BBC with nominations, comfortably eclipsing stalwarts ITV and Channel 4 as Top Boy and Black Mirror were also rewarded.
Although not its most critically-rated season, Peter Morgan’s royal saga ended late last year with a bang and plenty controversy, and the noms come amid the ongoing Kate Middleton saga.

One of the most beloved Black Mirror episodes ever is getting a sequel in the show’s upcoming seventh season, set to hit Netflix in 2025. Cast among the anthology series’ top 10 greatest on IMDb and considered a scathing critique of toxic masculinity, Season 4’s “USS Callister” is getting a new life in an episode that will most likely see the crew of the titular spaceship free of the tyranny of Captain Robert Daly (Jesse Plemons). This will be a first for the Charlie Brooker-created series, as so far all Black Mirror episodes have been closed stories — apart, of course, from the odd reference here and there. But, considering how different the show has proved it is willing to become from its former self in last year’s Season 6, it sure makes sense for such a shift to occur. And, all things considered, if Black Mirror is going to bring back some of its characters,...

Black Mirror raises thought-provoking questions about technology and society's reliance on it. One standout episode, "USS Callister," won several Primetime Emmy Awards and will have a sequel. The sequel episode could explore themes of escapism, control, and obsession with video game technology.
Black Mirror is one of the most fascinating anthology series on television today. It raises thought-provoking questions about society’s reliance on and obsession with technology. Black Mirror's season 7 sequel may risk diminishing the series' novelty by revisiting USS Callister. The USS Callister sequel in season 7 may or may not live up to the high standards set by its predecessor. Despite concerns, revisiting acclaimed episodes can keep audiences engaged and excited about new Black Mirror content.
As exciting as Black Mirror season 7 may seem, it is hard not to be carefully optimistic for its release after hearing about its strange sequel plans. Loosely inspired by The Twilight Zone, Black Mirror initially had an indie charm when it premiered on Channel 4 in 2011. Each episode in the series came off as a unique short film that envisioned a dark take on the near future and all the potential dystopian technologies it could bring with it.

There is good news for fans of Charlie Brooker's dark, satirical anthology series Black Mirror. While we still have a wait ahead of us, we now know that Season 7 of the show will debut in 2025, including a sequel to classic Star Trek-nudging ep USS Callister. Check out the sizzle teaser for the season below…
This being Brooker and Black Mirror, there are naturally very few details to be gleaned at this point. All we really know about the seventh season is that it'll have six standalone episodes and shooting is already underway.
The only episode confirmed is, as mentioned above, a follow-up to popular Season 4 entry USS Callister. The original starred Jesse Plemons, Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson, Michaela Coel and Billy Magnussen in the story of Robert Daly (Plemons), a genius, egotistical game company guru who gets frustrated at a perceived lack of recognition. He creates a simulated...

Black Mirror is coming back!
Season 7 of the hit Netflix series will return on the streamer in 2025, the company announced Thursday (March 14).
The Charlie Brooker-created anthology series is already in production on six brand new episodes slated for the seventh season next year.
There’s also one teaser so far: one of the episodes will be a sequel to the fan-favorite Season 4 opener, USS Callister.
Via Netflix: “The episode starred Jesse Plemons as Robert Daly, a brilliant but troubled programmer who co-founded a popular online video game. Unhappy with a perceived lack of recognition at his gaming company, Robert created a simulated reality within the game, giving himself the role of a Captain Kirk–like figure aboard a starship and leading an adoring crew — based on his real-life co-workers — on zany sci-fi adventures. Of course, because this is Black Mirror, things took an unexpected and sinister turn. Captain Robert...
