‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has been in development for a while, and this week brought several announcements, including the release of the first public trailer. While details about the plot remain scarce, many fans are thrilled by its setting in the High Republic Era, a new territory for live-action storytelling.
Despite this unique backdrop, ‘The Acolyte’ is only the second show to explore this era, following the recently concluded ‘Young Jedi Adventures.’ Based on Headland’s remarks, ‘Acolyte’ promises to be different from expectations. She initially pitched it as a blend of ‘Frozen’ and ‘Kill Bill,’ drawing inspiration from samurai and Wuxia films.
As a devoted Star Wars fan since her teenage years, it’s understandable that she drew references and inspiration from the Star Wars Expanded Universe. One notable character was even taken from the High Republic series of books. Additionally, Headland surprised many by revealing that one of...

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has been in development for a considerable time, and this week marked a flurry of announcements, including the release of the show’s first trailer. While the plot remains largely under wraps, fans are eagerly anticipating the series for its setting in the High Republic Era, a period yet to be explored in live-action.
Despite this unique backdrop, ‘The Acolyte’ is actually the second show to be set during this era, following the recently concluded ‘Young Jedi Adventures.’ Leslye Headland, the show’s creator, has now provided details on where exactly it fits within the broader Star Wars timeline.
I was so interested in a storyline where the Jedi were at the height of their power — and I don’t mean The Phantom Menace, because at that point, there’s a Sith Lord in the Senate that they’re not picking up on.

Star Wars fans now have their first full look at the next live-action Disney+ series, The Acolyte, leading many to ask where it fits on the grand Star Wars timeline.
The High Republic era of Star Wars, which will be used for The Acolyte, has only been used sparingly on screen. In fact, the animated Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures is Lucasfilm's first project to explore that era in a TV show or movie.
The Acolyte is now set to change that status nearly two years after Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy teased that this initiative, were it successful, would "open up new storytelling opportunities beyond the page."

Who can be a Jedi? The "Star Wars" franchise has changed this answer over the years. We've gone from a select few bloodlines who are predetermined to be Force-sensitive at birth, to everyone being able to use the Force if they train hard enough. In the original trilogy we mostly just saw humans being able to wield lightsabers and use the Force — the sole exception being Yoda. It wasn't until the prequels that we started seeing all sorts of creatures and aliens as Jedi — characters with multiple arms, with tentacles on their face, and other cool alien features who were all part of the Order.
In recent, years with the High Republic (and the "Clone Wars" cartoon) titles, we've also got canonical Wookiee Jedi, finally giving us a Jedi that can as easily cut down a droid battalion as he is to rip it to shreds with its claws. Wookiees...

As the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences continues to figure out how and when to finally hold this year’s Daytime Emmys — delayed in June due to the WGA strike — it has gone ahead and announced the nominations for this year’s 2nd Annual Children’s & Family Emmys.
There’s no date yet for this year’s Chidren’s & Family Emmys — NATAS is likely waiting for a hopeful soon resolution to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike before firming up dates. But last year, winners were announced during two ceremonies—one focused on creative and technical arts, and the other to performances and programming—at Wilshire Ebell Theatre on December 10 and 11. This year’s Cafe will likely be held around the same time — and NATAS could very well use that timeframe to simultaneously finally hold the Daytime Emmys as well.

What started as a movie trilogy back in the late 70s and the early 80s today is known as one of the biggest and most expanded franchises of all time. Since its inception, the ‘Star Wars’ saga has spawned movies, animated and live-action television series, comics, video games, and basically any other sort of media you can think of at this moment. While the franchise is most known for its movies and series that have been dropping on Disney+ since 2019, the franchise also spawned a good number of animated series and content that is suited for the youngest fans.
One such series is ‘Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures,’ which premiered earlier this year on Disney+ and Disney Junior. The series is primarily suited for children, which is why it also has educational features. Clone Wars fans already know was Ahsoka brings to the table and now Disney+ subscribers will too.
The only other original series of note this month is the fourth and final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series on Aug. 9. Many of the original actors from High School Musical are returning this round save for the ever elusive Zac Efron. There aren’t...

The Television Critics Association awards nominations went public Friday, and it was great news for some series and sad news for others.
The Last of Us, The Bear, and Succession are in a three-way tie with five nominations apiece.
All three shows were expected to get some awards love, so their performances here are not surprising.
The Bear has been a bonafide hit for FX and Hulu, but there were some more first-year shows in the mix, too.
Andor, Jury Duty, Shrinking, Interview With the Vampire, and Poker Face were all well-represented.
Somewhat surprising: Ted Lasso and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel were shut out.
The news comes after both series have been big hits on the awards front and could set a precedent for upcoming awards shows.
Awards will be handed out at an in-person ceremony on August 7, 2023.
Check out the complete list of nominations below.
