Two worlds collide
kosmasp3 August 2014
This is a real slow burner. A movie that develops very slowly until ... well until it finally makes a statement. But the buildup is nicely shown, with acting so real, it almost feels like a documentary. Especially the young boy, our main character, whom we follow, who struggles to comprehend the meaning of family, without a "real" guidance from a father. He has to grow up fast, or rather he wants to.

It's a tough movie to watch for some I suppose, especially because it might feel that it is not going anywhere (the beginning would be an example for that). But it does pay off, if you have the patience to sit through. The story is not new and many philosophers have said things like that about boys growing up. But the way it plays out, will feel real, instead of a made up movie/story

An okay coming of age drama

Warning: Spoilers
"La tercera orilla" tells the story of a teenage boy who whitnesses his father leading a double life with two seperate families. Uncertain of his father's love and unfairingly having to deal with too much responsibility, he has hardships finding his way in life.

The movie is rather slow and lacking major plot twists or moments of action or thrill. It delivers a solid personal drama but in the end misses out on the necessary highs and lows in order to really catch its audience and turn it into more than an interesting addition of the genre. As it is, you probably do a better thing taking care of your own emotional relationships.

All in all this is a can watch film, that is neither a loss if you miss it nor is it a waste of time. The story has potential and the acting is nicely done but the addition doesn't form a great movie.
