The cast of Daisy Jones & The Six were set to take the stage once again according to series star Suki Waterhouse.
Waterhouse shared in a YouTube vlog on Thursday from the 2023 Lollapalooza festival that she along with the cast, which also included Sam Claflin, Riley Keough, Josh Whitehouse, Sebastian Chacon and Will Harrison, were supposed to perform at the Chicago-based music festival last summer.
“That whole thing was planned, we got people visas, like, it was an operation. And then the SAG strike happened, so we all decided that we should not perform at Lollapalooza,” the actress and singer recalled. Amid the strike, guidelines stated that the union’s affected members would be prohibited from all principal on-camera work — including acting, singing, dancing and stunts — on top of off-camera work, such as voice-acting and narration. All promotional activity such as interviews, award shows and podcasts were also not allowed by union members at the time.

At long last, Kathryn Bigelow is returning to filmmaking. After 2017’s Detroit, she was developing the David Koepp-scripted thriller Aurora for Netflix but has now moved on to another project for the company. The untitled thriller will unfold in real-time at the White House as a missile attack threatens the United States. THR reports former NBC News president Noah Oppenheim, who also wrote Jackie, scripted the project based on Bigelow’s idea. No additional details were revealed but with Netflix now greenlighting the project, here’s hoping it kicks off before the end of the year.
Juliette Binoche will make her directorial and writing debut in a new anthology film Bike Me Up. Joining directors Sally El Hosaini, Isabel Coixet, Matthias Schweighöfer, Asger Leth, and Frédéric Auburtin, each section will be set in a different European city and explore the locales’ relationship with cycling. Kathryn Bigelow was set to direct Aurora for Netflix, but that film got scrapped: now, though, she’s got another one.
Since Dan Lin was appointed as Netflix’s new film boss, we’ve all been waiting to see what kind of movies would be getting the green light at the Silicon Valley streaming outfit.
As of today, we have the very beginnings of an answer. Along with Happy Gilmore 2 – a sequel to Adam Sandler’s beloved 1996 comedy – it has also been announced that Kathryn Bigelow will be directing an as yet untitled thriller for the company.
Not much in the way of news has been released about the project but thanks to The Hollywood Reporter we do know this: the film will be focused ‘on a group of White House officials scrambling to deal with an incoming missile attack on the U.S. Sources say the story will...

Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow has set her next feature film at Netflix. The streamer confirmed the project during its upfront presentation to advertisers on Wednesday afternoon in New York.
No title or plot details were revealed. The project marks Bigelow’s first feature since the 2017 police brutality period film “Detroit,” which was produced and distributed by Annapurna Pictures. Though that feature received positive reviews, it failed to capture the awards and commercial success of the director’s previous two works: the controversial 2012 CIA manhunt thriller “Zero Dark Thirty” and the acclaimed 2009 Iraq war feature “The Hurt Locker,” which won six categories at the 2010 Academy Awards including best picture. For “Hurt Locker,” Bigelow became the first woman ever to win the Oscar for best director.
Since “Detroit,” Bigelow has directed an Apple commercial and a short film. In March 2022, Netflix announced the filmmaker would helm an adaptation of screenwriter David Koepp’s disaster novel “Aurora,...

It was reported last month that Kathryn Bigelow had dropped out of directing an adaptation of the apocalyptic David Koepp novel “Aurora” for Netflix as new film chief Dan Lin was starting his role. But one of Lin’s first green lights will reportedly be a different Bigelow film with a similarly apocalyptic bent.
According to a report in Puck, “The Hurt Locker” director Bigelow has been tapped to direct a thriller about the White House’s real-time response efforts to an incoming ballistic missile attack on American soil. The script for the film is written by Noah Oppenheim, and the project is expected to be formally announced when Netflix hosts its Upfronts presentation to advertisers next week.
Puck also reported that despite the green light, Bigelow was “visibly annoyed” in regards to notes from Lin asking for the film to cut its budget and length. The report adds that...

Colter goes to talk to his sister…and finds she’s the one who’s been holding the missing girl captive, in the basement in a small crawl space. (She had taken the girl with her to a county fair when the city inspected her house, and the photo...

Jon Huertas, who starred on the NBC drama with Justin Hartley, directed the April 21 episode of Tracker, which is already a hit for CBS (and is coming back for a second season). “It was a great episode. It really came together really well. Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos says “there’s no appetite to make fewer films” at the streamer under the new film chief Dan Lin, disputing a recent New York Times article that said Netflix would move forward valuing quality over quantity and audience engagement over auteurs.
Sarandos on Thursday’s Netflix Q1 earnings call responded to a piece this week in the New York Times that said “the aim is to make Netflix’s movies better, cheaper and less frequent.”
“That was not a quote from Dan, and I would say that nor did we participate in that article. There is no appetite to make fewer films,” Sarandos responded. “But there is an unlimited appetite to make better films always, even though we have made and are making great films, we want to make them better of course.”

Under Netflix’s new head of film, auteur-driven projects are said to be very much out of favour: Kathryn Bigelow’s Aurora included.
Just a couple of weeks ago, we covered a report which suggested that Dan Lin, the new head of Netflix’s film division, would be looking to scale back the company’s commitment to high-budget films. Expensive movies like The Gray Man, Red Notice or Rebel Moon would be a thing of the past and the film division would instead focus its resources on mid-budget projects.
So far though, the only projects about that aren’t getting a green light seem to be the ones being led by auteur filmmakers.
David Lynch revealed last week that Netflix had rejected his pitch for a feature-length animation while it has emerged today that Aurora – a Kathryn Bigelow project that has been in the works for a while at Netflix...

How did “Daisy Jones and the Six,” the 10-part Amazon Prime Video Series, come together? Executive producer Lauren Neustadter, who serves as film and television president at Hello Sunshine – the production company in which she’s partnered with Reese Witherspoon – credits her husband Scott Neustadter for finding and wanting to adapt the Taylor Jenkins Reid novel in 2019. “He read the book and fell madly in love with it,” she recalls., “and he bet on our production company . I remember he received it on Friday of that Fourth of July weekend. By the time we had dinner, he’d finished it. I stayed up well into the night reading and I remember emailing Reese and saying, ‘I know you’re on vacation, but I need you to take your iPad to the beach. By the time I woke up, she was halfway through the book and we were like, ‘We have to do this.

After a string of false starts and red herrings, Kathryn Bigelow’s Aurora will start shooting this year – her first film since Detroit.
Here’s a story that we return to every so often with a great deal of hope. Reports have emerged (this time via What’s On Netflix) that production is set to begin on Kathryn Bigelow’s next project, sometime ‘in early 2024.’
Bigelow is of course the director of acclaimed political dramas such as Zero Dark Thirty and Detroit. She was the first female director to win an Academy Award for 2010’s The Hurt Locker and she’s the filmmaker behind 1991’s Point Break.
Considering that list of accolades, it’s a shame we haven’t seen a film from Bigelow in the last seven years, although every once in a while a story surfaces to announce that cameras will soon be rolling on her next project.

One frosty December day in Finnish Lapland almost 40 years ago, a Soviet missile streaked across the border and landed on the outskirts of Lake Inari. The incident rattled locals’ nerves and set off an international media firestorm, as journalists from across the globe raced to the remote Nordic region. Some speculated that the threat of nuclear annihilation wasn’t off the table for a small country sitting in the shadow of its massive, war-mongering neighbor — even though the reporters seemed to be providing most of the fireworks.
Finnish filmmaker Miia Tervo (“Aurora”) gives her own distinctive spin to these events in “The Missile,” a sophomore feature that’s being presented this week at the Finnish Film Affair in Helsinki. An absurdist dramedy about (international) borders and (personal) boundaries, the film pitches political satire against heartfelt comedy as it tells the empowering story of an abused single mother who gets drawn...

At its latest edition, which takes place parallel to the Helsinki Intl. Film Festival — Love & Anarchy, the Finnish Film Affair will again host its well-received Nordic Flair training program, an initiative designed to offer career development for film professionals from across the Nordic region.
After a 2022 edition that focused on sales agents, distributors, buyers and broadcast commissioners, this year’s event will host actors working in one or more of the Nordic countries. Maria Pirkkalainen-Barber, head of Finnish Film Affair and Nordic Flair, says the goal in Helsinki is to offer a launching pad for rising talents looking to take the next step in their careers.
“The opportunities for actors to develop their own chances for an international breakthrough can be challenging, and access to agents and casting directors is competitive. Not to mention how the pandemic years made it more difficult for actors to build international networks,” Pirkkalainen-Barber says.

When Kim Davis-Wagner and Justine Arteta signed on to cast the television adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s blockbuster rock ’n’ roll novel Daisy Jones & The Six, they knew they were up against the pressure of re-creating the magic of a beloved piece of IP — but they were also up against A Star Is Born. The Lady Gaga-starring musical drama hit theaters in 2018, and the industry was still captivated with the idea of seeing pop stars on the big screen. “The thinking was, there have to be other musicians [like Lady Gaga] who could be that good at acting,” says Arteta. “We knew that was possible, but really rare.”

Butch Patrick turns 70 today, but he still exhibits the same youthful exuberance he brought to The Munsters as Eddie Munster from 1964 to 1966. From child actor to the classic series’ de facto delegate, I had the pleasure of speaking with Patrick about his unconventional career, The Munsters‘ legacy, and more at NorthEast Comic Con’s Collectibles Extravaganza.

While accompanying his little sister to a print modeling shoot, the photographer asked to take his photo as well. “He took some pictures of me afterward, and he put one in his window. About a month later, a producer and a director were walking by. They were casting a movie, and they still needed the youngest son of Eddie Albert and Jane Wyatt. I wound up getting the movie. It was a great little B-movie called The Two Little Bears.”

The film examines how this survivor became a silent movie star: Aurora Mardiganian's odyssey is almost unreal. After losing her family, escaping slavery, and enduring Hollywood greed – she journeys far to tell the world of the Armenian Genocide. But even then her story does come to an end with much joy.
