One two occasions, once by Ahab and once by Queequeg, they call the second mate "Mr. Stubbs." There is no "s" at the end. He is Mr. Stubb.
Ahab references William Ernest Henley's poem "Invictus" written in 1875 (by talking about "masters of your fate, and captains of your souls"). But this version of "Moby Dick" takes place before 1861, because Pip is a runaway slave.
