Jeff Briggs has technically been attached in the lead role of "Clyde Duncan" since 2013. When the first attempt to film the short failed in 2014, Briggs was re-cast in the role in the spring of 2020. Though the project reverted back to its original owner, Briggs remained attached. The story has been updated to reflect the actor being nearly 10 years older by the time filming will commence.
Though this is the third short film written and directed by Thomas Gidlow, it's his first in over 10 years.
The script for Inimicus was originally written in 2013. After an attempt to film the short failed, the project lay dormant until being sold in April of 2020. The purchasing company made plans to adapt the short into a feature film, but the lingering effects of the pandemic and other factors conspired to keep the project from getting off the ground. In March of 2022, the purchasing company agreed to release the project back to the original writer (Thomas Gidlow), who will be producing it as originally intended (a short film), to be completed by the end of 2022.
"Inimicus" is Latin for the word "enemy".
Though it's made obvious by the content of the story that Clyde suffers from PTSD, the term is never mentioned by any of the characters. This is done intentionally to illustrate the difficulty some sufferers of the condition have in discussing or confronting that they have a problem and need help to deal with it.
