The more things change, the more things stay the same.
That may as well be the motto for the five broadcast networks heading into the 2023-24 season as their corporate parents are increasingly focused on cutting costs, restructurings and streaming. To that end, three of the five networks have made leadership changes in the past year.
The biggest change comes at The CW, which is now majority controlled by Nexstar with former Pop topper Brad Schwartz now tasked with making the younger-skewing network profitable for the first time following the unexpected departure of TV’s longest-tenured president, Mark Pedowitz. Over at CBS, Kelly Kahl and his top lieutenant Thom Sherman and their sizable paydays were bounced in favor of former head of current Amy Reisenbach. Over at Fox, Charlie Collier — who led the network following the sale of its studio counterpart — bailed for Roku with the broadcaster tapping unscripted chief...

ABC is the latest network to reveal when fans can expect their favorite series to return to the air following the end of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
The schedule has plenty of big surprises, including 9-1-1 landing on a new night after moving to the Alphabet network from Fox.
9-1-1 Season 7 has scored the Thursday lead-off spot, where it will lead into Grey's Anatomy Season 20.
Previous 8 p.m. occupant, Station 19 is airing out of Grey's Anatomy in the 10 p.m. slot.
That's very late for the spinoff, but we'll reserve judgment on that until we lay eyes on the numbers.
Moving 9-1-1 away from Mondays is a choice because the show has continuously delivered strong ratings throughout its run.
There's also the chance many viewers will be confused by the move and won't follow it to ABC, so there are many variables here.

It goes without saying that Milo Ventimiglia is a huge star considering he portrayed some of our favorite heartthrobs onscreen. From his early roles as Jess Mariano in "Gilmore Girls" and Peter Petrelli in "Heroes," to his most recent ones as Jack Pearson in "This Is Us" and Charlie Nicoletti in "The Company You Keep," Ventimiglia has never had any problem acting out romance on screen. He's a bit more reserved with his personal life, however.
The 46-year-old actor usually shies away from talking about his love life publicly, and he told People why in a 2017 interview, explaining, "I try to minimize myself so people can see the character and can really dive into the work."
Still, Ventimiglia has had a few (and we mean very few) high-profile romances over the years. Like many other celebrities before him, he's mixed business with pleasure on two occasions by falling for his costars,...

It’s no longer just David Zaslav, CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels, and a room full of ruthless Warner Bros. Discovery accountants swinging their Excel sheets like guillotines. Stream your bucket-list series and movies (note: 2008’s “The Bucket List” is only available on PVOD) while you still can — content removal is the new power move.
Last month, Paramount+ scrubbed shows “Inside Amy Schumer,” “From Cradle to Stage,” “Tell Me a Story,” “Ghislaine: Partner in Crime,” movies “Fantasy Football” and “Snow Day,” and a crop of Nickelodeon series from its archives, a source confirmed to IndieWire. The library purge followed the cancellation of “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” “Star Trek: Prodigy,” “The Game” and “Queen of the Universe,” all of which were also removed from the service.

Exclusive: William Fichtner (Hypnotic) has been set to star opposite Free Solo‘s Alex Honnold and his fellow climbing legends Brette Harrington (The Alpinist) and Adrian Ballinger (Edge of the Earth) in The Sound, an indie horror pic set in the adrenaline-filled world of big wall rock climbing.
Written and directed by Brendan Devane (The Canyonlands), the film currently in production in Nevada follows a group of climbers as they embark on the formidable challenge of conquering the Forbidden Wall, a perilous climb that has remained off-limits for years. What initially begins as an audacious expedition swiftly transforms into a harrowing battle for survival against a malevolent force that toys with their minds and tests their resilience.
Intel on the climbers’ roles hasn’t been disclosed, but Fichtner portrays Conner, a father who is faced with losing his son in the same way he lost his father at a young age.

Other impacted shows include the Rashida Jones comedy “Angie Tribeca,” NBC’s “Blindspot,” Samantha Bee and Jason Jones’ “The Detour” and TNT’s “The Last Ship,” which will be removed on July 1.

There’s not a lot of summer lovin’ spreading through the streaming industry. A black cloud hangs over the corporate offices of most streaming platforms nowadays, as seemingly every service is pulling titles in order to cut maintenance costs in every way possible.
Hulu has already undergone one round of cuts, but as The Streamable speculated earlier this month, that doesn’t mean it’s out of the woods. Those suspicions were confirmed on Wednesday, as an exclusive Deadline report revealed that “Alaska Daily” and “The Company You Keep” were both being pulled from the service in early July.

Exclusive: Hulu is joining the latest round of programming purges.
The streamer is pulling off a number of additional series from its service as part of Disney’s wider plan to cut streaming costs.
The company revealed last month in an SEC filing that it would take $1.5B-$1.8B in write-downs associated with removing streaming programming from its platforms and expects to remove from more its direct-to-consumer platforms in the third quarter with another $400M in impairment charges.
Deadline now can reveal some of those titles.
They include Alaska Daily and The Company You Keep, which were both canceled at ABC after one season. Both shows would normally have stayed on the service until September, or later if Hulu had struck a longer deal, but are to be removed earlier next month.
Deadline understands that, going forward, ABC series canceled after one season, as well as specials, likely will fall under a similar strategy.
