good parts, but there are many other better dance movies
claudiblau17 January 2016
I love dance movies, like I really love them. So of course I watched this one too. The dancing parts were okayish... Derek and BoA are really good dancers, no question about that. And I loved the drum-parts... that was something new. And also the OST was pretty good. But there was no chemistry between Derek and BoA, the couple-dances looked way to choreographed...like dances from "dancing with the stars"... Derek should do that and nothing else. And two times they even copied from Dirty Dancing...and that's a no-go! So that's a dance movie that doesn't make it to my "watch again" list and that's a bad rating for me!

Could have been better or could have been worse.

Warning: Spoilers
The story line kind of reminded me of Step Up 3D; they both had to do with brothers, clubs, and dancing. In fact when I first read the plot my brain immediately flashed to Step Up 3D. It wasn't until I saw the trailer for this movie that I knew it was a completely different movie.

I really enjoyed seeing BoA act though; I didn't know she was in this movie or in a movie in general. I do dabble in just about every genre in almost every language, but I'd like to see her in Hollywood movies more. I think she has more to show for, don't get me wrong her dancing was good in the movie just not really one part that I remember more than the others. Moreover I think she and everyone else did a pretty good job at acting their characters; I particularly liked Nick and Kaz more than the main characters. It was a cute love story nonetheless; the movie itself doesn't particularly stand out to me. Although now I'll remember a few faces rather than just seeing their IMDb profile. There are some good looking people in this movie.

They could have had better song choices, as I didn't really feel into it like I wanted to jump right in and dance with them or even dance in my own room. The ending song was just about the only one that made me want to know what it was, and I did like the different forms of dancing and performances they had in this film.

There was only one part that I really laughed at and really just wanted rewind and see it again. Other than that I probably wouldn't watch it again. Just something nice to pass time, to each his own though.

I loved it!
Gordon-112 October 2013
This film tells the story of two dancers who dance their way to their dreams despite the adverse circumstances around them.

I have not heard about this film before watching it, but I was blown away by the whole experience. First, I was impressed by the diversity of the cast. Asians have always been underrepresented in American films, and "Make Your Move" gives the scene a refreshing change. The dance scenes are consistently impressive, energetic and vibrant, delivering a wow factor like no other dance film I have watched.

The two leading characters are charming and beautiful. They do look like a couple! BoA is really beautiful, and she can really dance. "Make Your Move"well consolidate her superstar status in Asia, and hopefully break her into the Western market.

Cheesy story, not really worth watching unless really bored
loklinspirit2 May 2014
I am rather disappointed. I knew before watching that it's going to be a cheesy romeo and juliet plot but i expected there to be at least some sparkle. Unfortunately... The movie is made up of loads of indoor scenes which are not NY at all, plus couple aerial views of the bridges and a shot where Derek in the Borough Hall/Court Street area. Okay, the dance moves were fun and cool from time to time but not new or brilliant, with the production team and actors that the movie had, I expected much more. Derek Hough and BoA are both cute, but no they cannot act. They just do not have that sense of presence, at least not in this movie. BoA obviously is not a native English speaker, which fits her role, but she tries too hard to be effortless and smooth, and that makes her lines mono-toned. U-know's guest appearance totally disappointed me as well, that act could never be a headline in any club and definitely not up to standards of a dance movie. In real life, I doubt any club owner would fly such dancer all the way from Korea. That suit vest thing showing his chubby arms are making the scene even worse. Last but not the least, that pony-tail guy totally reminded me of Maria in the film "Din Tao:Leader of the Parade"... I'm not giving the movie a one -star just because it was fun running into the crew in W Hotel two years ago...

Awful dance flick
KineticSeoul16 September 2014
I gotta admit the only reason I decided to watch this movie, is because I like dance flick and because it has Boa in it. Despite it having Boa, this movie was super disappointing. The dance scenes just didn't stand out and the romantic elements was too drawn out and boring to watch. I get that they were trying to go for that Romeo and Juliet direction revolving modern setting and dance. But it falls short in every level, including the acting. I know they were trying, but it just came off super cheesy. Some 12 or 13 year old girls might be cool with this flick, but I just can't see how anyone could enjoy this sappy, cliché, drawn out dance/romance flick. I think the only reason I kept watching was to do this review and because to see how Boa would do in a motion picture. And again the dance scenes has nothing spectacular. I am not shocked why this flick bombed in box office.

Lack Luster
merrilanil4 November 2014
Let me start by saying this that I had never heard about this movie before and it was pure coincidental and through the divine intervention of internet browsing that I bumped into it. Followed by watching the trailer and impressed by the dance moves shown, I decided to watch the movie "make your move" or in words "Romeo and Juliet in step up"

Those who loved step up, street dance and all other dance movies would surely love this because, yes the movie has a lot of dance moves that will make your jaw drop but is that enough to make you watch the movie….hmmm… totally depends on your patience level

The movie story is totally romeo and Juliet (if you have missed my hints in the above two paragraphs) having kids from two rivaling clans falling for each other and surviving through the hatreds and rivalry but sadly the movie does not explore much on the romance quotient which I guess is acceptable considering that this is in whole a dance movie.

The good points is definitely the music and dance routines and having professional dancer (Derek hough) and musician (BOA) for lead characters do actually make it better but can they pull off a story other than dance routines….sadly ..for me…no..

There is no plot to the movie per say and whatever story is there kind off runs like a marathon and too fast for you to actually cope up… the movie pretty much follows a strict regime which is 5 min story 15 min dance routine and this follows throughout the movie but nevertheless I loved it for being a sweet chick flick and most of all for the dance routines. Its fine unless you are expecting a through and through entertainer

The movie has no plot and whatever plot is actually taken from the usual Disney movies and threaded together to narrate an obvious story. You will predict everything from the moment the titles starts showing up but the movie has some real good dance sequences that kind of is worth the pain

Could be better but satisfied.
shui_yu_jai7 January 2014
Before watching this movie, I expected nothing but dances, it did not disappoint me. We all know what BoA and Derek Dough can do. It makes you wonder what chemistry an Asian pop star can make with a ballroom dancing master.

This movie has given modern dances a new definition. It is not an era with just hip hop dances anymore. It shows you tap dances and dances with drums(Cobu) could be the next "hit thing" as well.

Let's be frank though, the story is weak, like I expected. Characters have minimal interactions, I almost couldn't feel the relationship between them. If you are looking for a movie with a well organized flow of story line, sorry you can probably skip this title.

It really depends on which perspective you use to view a movie, to decide whether or not it's worth your time. I watched this movie entirely for the chronography, and of course, BoA and Derek Dough. If that's something you are looking for as well? Go for it.

An amazing movie about dancing, passion and love.
vinogradovairi4 April 2014
Actually, I don't quite get why people leave so many negative feedback regarding this amazing movie. "Make Your Move" is one of the best movies about dancing and expressing the feelings through the moves, about passion, hard work and, of course, love. Pure love, which comes with lots of struggle and problems and which, on the other hand, makes people believe in themselves, makes them do things that they even could not have imagined of being possible to do. Romeo-Juliet-like story is really fascinating, and in the movie we can see a completely different, new side of it, which we have never seen before; the storyline is really wonderful - it kept me sitting on the edge of my seat, because there were so many cliffhangers I really enjoyed. To say more, I was really amazed by the incredible choreography, the soundtracks were fabulous as well, and I absolutely love the cast and the crew which did a great job - so many talented people in one movie, isn't it startling? I wish I could erase my own memory and watch this movie again and enjoy it in its whole like I did when I watched it for the first time. One of my favorite movies for sure, and I'm quite picky at this point. "Make Your Move" is an amazing movie about dancing, passion, love and so much more - I will never regret the day I made the decision to watch it.

Fantastic romantic dancing love story. Great entertainment. Derek Hough is phenomenal!
Kabakken-979-40999019 April 2014
This movie really had great pacing. It was in constant motion. The dance club scenes were amazing as was all the choreography. Both brothers turned in great acting performances. I thought Derek Hough as Donny was not only a strong dancer, immensely talented but a handsome romantic lead. I believed the love story between Donny and Aya. She was charming. The multi cultural cast was interesting and the tapping especially was a treat. The chemistry between Donny and Aya is hot. Their 2 romantic dance scenes sizzled. I've never seen a man dance out of his shirt to reveal a chiseled body. It was very sexy and viral, how he moved with such passion and grace. I liked it so much I saw it twice. I highly recommend it.

NIce one
musseln931 March 2014
I went to watch this film to Croatia from Hungary because that was the nearest place where I could watch it. And because Derek Hough is my favorite American dancer and I wanted to see him on the big screen. And that trip is worth it, of course! The story is usual, average. A girl meets a boy, their families are enemies so Romeo and Juliet love story on big screen. And they need to fight for their love. And refuse someone else's love. :) But they have a nice and touchy moments. There are great, outstanding dances and choreographs. I had favorite movements immediately while I watched. Scenes are good as the rest of the cast. And the music is also very, very good. So, all in all, it is a great film! Definitely worthy to see it. Once I would like to see it in 3D. That would be awesome. :)

Highly recommended

I absolutely love Derek. This was the first reason I watched it and he most surely did not disappointed me. How could he? He's an amazing artist! There is nothing he can't do. Honestly, I enjoyed this movie a lot! The plot, the acting, the dancing... It is probably the only dance movie I really liked this much. The song „Let me in" really stuck into my brain, brilliant work, wish Derek was the one singing it.

I really could see „Make your move" making a second movie, cause it would be really wonderful to see what Donny and Aya achieved, how they evolved in dancing and of course what other difficulties they had to cross.

Derek is a huge possibility to become a movie star, he can act, he can dance, he can sing......and he looks breathtaking! I am really sorry that my review can look not too objective, it is really only how I feel. Derek really knows how to create an intimate atmosphere and even we, behind the screen can feel it. That makes is so brilliant. Dancing can say so much too, Right?

Oh! Did I mention Derek?? He's lovely and funny in everything he does. ♥

Dance is Love and Love is Dance
rosecs4818 April 2014
Derek Hough, Emmy winning Dancing with the Stars pro, and Asian star Boa collaborate on the theme of dance and love. Theirs is a Romeo and Juliet story for the modern age complete with feuding brothers and problems looming.

If you watch DWTS and know Derek's dance brilliance you will be amazed at his tap dancing in this film which looks so professionally done even though he is new to tap. And those like me who know little of Boa will be equally impressed with her abilities.

The love story is sweet and tender and touches your heart. There is only a minimal amount of violence and language and a maximum amount of dance. Great for a date movie. Good for families and just to see that gorgeous Derek body makes it a winner for girls night out. Yum!

dance moments
Kirpianuscus10 May 2017
dance, love, version of Romeo and Juliet. and a lot of clichés, unrealistic situations, scenes who must be impressive who are only nice or boring. the purpose seems be to show a great chain of dance moments. ignoring the story, who becomes only a sketch. but, it is a big problem - the dance is not really enough. and , using this basic truth, the film remains only one of too many titles about dance moments in easy films about nothing. except, maybe, the fans of Derek Hough who tries do a decent work but entire his effort has the status of improvisation.
