Warning: Spoilers
There is really nothing new about this 90-minute television movie. The mother of a child dies, so the daughter gets a new mother and we watch how these two manage to build a connection and overcome their differences and obstacles, especially the new "mother". She has not found out what happiness means to her really and the daughter is angry at her for never having had much contact with her and her mother despite being her godmother. It's a bit unclear if this film is from 2011 or 2012, but it is clear that the lead actress is played by Julia Jäger, also the lead actress in the Acadey Award winning short film "Spielzeugland". The rest of the cast is completely unknown, also to German audiences. The film's director has worked on many German television movies before, most of them sound like low-class entertainment, however. So maybe, this one is at least a step up. The film#s writer is very unprolific. He worked for a long time on the German weekly series "Lindenstraße", but that's pretty much it.

The film is a mix of comedy and drama, but much more of the latter. The humor is fairly subtle most of the time, but rarely works. The first scene when the girl and the woman meet is already pretty underwhelming given it's a key scene of the entire movie. Olga von Luckwald is really over-the-top in this one and it's fairly annoying to watch. She gets better as the film goes on, but is never really good and never entirely succeeds with this challenging role. She looks a bit like the overrated Zooey Deschanel, but has probably even less talent. The writing is fairly predictable too. Of course, in the end the two will bond and form a connection. The only thing not entirely predictable is the role of her actual father. At times, you would think that he turns out an irresponsible loser in the end, but finally he does not. I was wrong here, but looking at how both characters are single you could probably have expected them becoming a couple as well. Also, the script has more weaknesses, fro example how they were like foes for the first half hour and then suddenly around minute 40, they are like best friends. Yes, Jäger's character finds out (I don't think it's possible to find this out the way she did) that the daughter did not cause her mother's accident, but this 180°-turn is way over the top anyway. They are like BFFs all of a sudden. And finally, also a word on the costumes: In one scene, the girl wears a t-shirt with the words "REBEL" which looks really bad, just like they took a random empty shirt and sticked a couple letters to it. All in all, a pretty amateurish production. Jäger tries her best, but she cannot make up for everything else that is wrong with this movie. Not recommended.
