An original feel-good story of music, hedonism & stoicism
whokilledtheworldmusic11 November 2022
In 'Street Tunes' you get to follow a Swedish actor (and a very charming fella) named Charlie Petersson surviving as a street musician (or as I learned it to be called; busker) for one month from Stockholm to Copenhagen to Amsterdam to Berlin to Prague to Milan and back home to Sweden.

The story is filled with so much heart, so much positive existential outlooks, and so much connection between people through one of the most powerful mediets in the world; music.

Charlie Peterssons plays music on the streets, parties, makes money, spends money again and wakes up with only 1 euro in his pocket pretty much everyday.

The bravery of the guy is remarkable. Myself would've probably been more careful with my money, spending more time in solitude and prioritizing my money for my next meal - but not Charlie.

Petersson eats, drinks, parties and constantly trusts the Universe to work out the money situation for him - and the Universe constantly does so.

Besides the feel-good vibe that is prominent during the whole documentary, what I find most interesting is Charlies mixed approach between pure hedonism and heartful stoicism. Two polarized opposite ideas of life which Mr Petersson in some charming way pull together - creating a spiritual and personal connection to the viewer but at the same time lets ur have good old stupid fun.

What is strange is the fact that I can not understand how no one could have thought of this story until 2022(!) It seems like a story that already should exist, yet, it does not. Until now.

If you're a youngster watching this I can only imagine your whole body itching and craving for the same adventure, while as a middle aged man - I feel melancholia for never doing such an adventure myself, and I'm left with hope, happiness, sadness and envy all at the same time.

Bravo.
