- [Daryl kills a Walker that tries to get back up from the ground]
- Daryl Dixon: Shut up.
- [shooting an arrow from his crossbow through its head]
- [T-Dog laughs knowing that he could die from an infection]
- Dale Horvath: Listen, your veins are very discolored. You got a hell of an infection there. You could die from blood poisoning.
- T-Dog: [T-Dog laughs] Oh, man. Wouldn't that be the way? World gone to hell, the dead risen up to eat the living, and Theodore Douglas gets done in by a cut on his arm.
- Dale Horvath: [T-Dog laughs harder] Yeah, that would be. That would be stupid.
- [Daryl finds out that T-Dog needs antibiotics]
- Daryl Dixon: Why'd you wait till now to say anything?
- [as Daryl places a large plastic bag full of drugs on the hood of a car]
- Daryl Dixon: Got my brother's stash.
- [going through the bag as the others look on in amazement]
- Daryl Dixon: Crystal, X. Don't need that. Got some kick ass painkillers.
- [Tossing the pill bottle to Glenn]
- Daryl Dixon: Doxycycline. Not the generic stuff neither. It's first class.
- [Tossing the bottle to Dale]
- Daryl Dixon: Merle got the clap on occasion.
- [as Daryl walks off]
- [Rick tells Shane that Lori has to be there with him and Carl]
- Rick Grimes: Lori has to be here, Shane. She has to know.
- Shane Walsh: Okay, I get that. I'm gonna handle it. But you've got to handle your end.
- Rick Grimes: My-my end?
- Shane Walsh: Your end is being here, for your son. Even if he didn't need your blood to survive, there is no way I'd ever let you walk out that door. Man, I'd break your legs if you tried. I mean, you know that, right? If something happened to him and you weren't here... If-if he slipped away while you were gone, you would never forgive yourself for that, and neither would Lori, man.
- Rick Grimes: You're right.
- Shane Walsh: [Shane smiles] When was I ever wrong?
- [Rick tells Hershel that there is no cure to the dead coming back to life]
- Rick Grimes: We were at the CDC... It's-it's gone now. There is no cure.
- Hershel Greene: I don't believe it. When aids came along, everyone panicked. One boy in town came down with it and some parents pulled their children from school so they didn't have to sit in the same room.
- Rick Grimes: This is a whole other thing.
- Hershel Greene: That's what we always say. 'This one's different.'
- Rick Grimes: Well, this one is.
- Hershel Greene: Mankind's been fighting plagues from the start. We get our behinds kicked for a while, then we bounce back. It's nature correcting herself, restoring some balance.
- Rick Grimes: I wish I could believe that.
- [Andrea tries to tell Carol that she knows what she's going through with Sophia missing]
- Andrea Harrison: I'm sorry for what you're going through. I know how you feel.
- Carol Peletier: I suppose you do. Thank you. The thought of her, out here by herself... It's the not knowing that's killing me. I just keep hoping and praying she doesn't wind up like Amy.
- Carol Peletier: [when Andrea remains silent, Carol tears up] Oh, God. That's the worst thing I ever said.
- Andrea Harrison: We're all hoping and praying with you. For what it's worth.
- Daryl Dixon: I'll tell ya what it's worth... Not a damn thing. It's a waste of time all this hopin' and prayin'. 'Cause we're gonna locate that little girl, she's gonna be just fine. Am I the only one standing around here? Good lord.
- [Glenn tells Dale about seeing Maggie Greene for the first time riding in on a horse]
- Glenn Rhee: All I know is this chick rode out of nowhere like Zorro on a horse and took Lori.
- Dale Horvath: [Dale looks to Daryl] You let her?
- Daryl Dixon: Climb down out of my asshole, man.
- [Lori tells Hershel that she wants to talk to the idiot who shot her son]
- Lori Grimes: Okay, so I understand, when Shane gets back with this other man...
- Hershel Greene: Otis.
- Lori Grimes: Otis. The idiot who shot my son.
- Hershel Greene: Ma'am, it was an accident.
- Lori Grimes: I'll take that under advisement later. For now, he's the idiot who shot our son.
- [first lines]
- Paula: [in a flashback, Lori's friend Paula talks to her about Rick while the two wait for their children to get out of school] I know that look. Then you get really quiet. So, are you gonna tell me?
- Lori Grimes: We had a fight this morning. It got ugly, hurtful.
- Paula: I'm sorry, hon. Men can be jerks.
- Lori Grimes: Thing is, if we're being honest, he wasn't the asshole.
- [in a flashback, Lori's friend Paula asks if she still loves Rick]
- Paula: You still love Rick?
- Lori Grimes: I've been asking myself that a lot, and-and I-I think the answer's 'yes.' It's just, I'm trying to remember how that works. Maybe the only real problem we have is we got married so young.
- [Rick tells Lori that he needs to go after Shane]
- Lori Grimes: Are you insane? You're not going after them.
- Hershel Greene: Rick, listen to your wife.
- Rick Grimes: If they got into trouble...
- Hershel Greene: You're in no condition to do anything about it. You've given too much blood. You're barely on your feet. You wouldn't make it across the yard.
- Rick Grimes: [Rick looks to Lori] Something happened, I have to go.
- Lori Grimes: No, your place is here. If Shane said he'll be back, he'll be back. He's like you that way.
- Rick Grimes: I can't just sit here.
- Lori Grimes: [Lori shouts at Rick] That's exactly what you do! If you need to pray or cry or tell God he's cruel, you go right ahead, but you're not leaving, Rick. Carl needs you, here.
- Lori Grimes: [Lori in a low voice] And I can't do this by myself. Not this one. I can't... I can't.
- [last lines]
- Otis: [as Shane and Otis run from a herd of Walkers, stopped at every corner] No. No-no-no-no!
- Shane Walsh: Come on! No-no-no-no! Come on, come on. In here!
- Shane Walsh: [Shane sees a department store] Okay-okay! Stay back, stay back!
- Shane Walsh: [as Shane shoots out some door windows, realizing they're trapped] Damn it.
- [Rick meets Hershel Greene for the first time when he takes the wounded Carl to the Greene residents]
- Hershel Greene: Your name?
- Rick Grimes: R-Rick.
- Hershel Greene: Rick?
- Rick Grimes: [Rick with tears in his eyes] I'm-I'm-I'm Rick.
- Hershel Greene: Rick, we're gonna do everything we can, okay? You need to give us some room.
- [Otis says he never saw Carl until he hit the ground]
- Otis: I never saw him. Not until he was on the ground.
- Rick Grimes: Lori doesn't know?
- Shane Walsh: No, she...
- Rick Grimes: [Rick begins to cry to Shane] My wife doesn't know. My wife doesn't know.
- [Rick questions himself to Shane on why he let Carl go with them both]
- Rick Grimes: Why'd I let him come with us? I should've sent him with Lori.
- Shane Walsh: You know, you start that, you never get that monkey off your back.
- Rick Grimes: [Rick with tears in his eyes] Little girl goes missing, you look for her. Simple.
- [Hershel operates on Carl requesting blood from Rick]
- Hershel Greene: [as Carl screams uncontrollably] Almost there.
- Rick Grimes: [Rick screams to Hershel] Stop! You're killing him!
- Hershel Greene: Rick, do you want him to live?
- Patricia: [as Carl cries in his screams] He needs blood.
- Shane Walsh: [Shane screams to Rick] Do it now!
- [Shane tells Rick that he has the hard part of staying with Carl]
- Shane Walsh: You know, when... When you were in that hospital, the one you were never supposed to leave, man... You should have seen Lori. She was like... The strength of that woman...
- Shane Walsh: [Shane chuckles] You can't imagine it. See-see, that's what you gotta have now. I mean, Carl, he needs that from you. So you wire yourself tight, my friend. Hmm?
- Shane Walsh: [Shane puts his hands around Rick's head] You hear? You've got the hard part. You just leave the rest to me, okay?
- Rick Grimes: [as Rick holds Shane] All right. All right.
- [Otis talks with Hershel and Shane about where they can get hospital supplies]
- Otis: Nearest hospital went up in flames a month ago.
- Otis: [when Otis starts to think] The high school.
- Hershel Greene: That's what I was thinking. They set up a FEMA shelter there. They would have everything we need.
- Otis: Place was overrun last time I saw it. You couldn't get near it. Maybe it's better now.
- Shane Walsh: [Shane looks to Rick] I said, leave the rest to me. Is it too late to take that back?
- [Rick hands over his Colt Python to Otis to take with him on his supply run for the antibiotics]
- Otis: That's a fine weapon, Rick. I'll bring it back in good shape.
- [Shane sees Otis carry a shotgun into the truck for their high school supply run]
- Otis: Only one I got.
- Shane Walsh: Man, this turned into one strange day.
- Otis: Didn't it, though?
- [T-Dog tries to tell Dale about them two being the weakest in the group]
- Dale Horvath: Found some more batteries, a bottle of very trendy pink water, an excellent new machete, and I thought Glenn might like this guitar. Maybe he plays.
- T-Dog: What are we doing?
- Dale Horvath: Pulling supplies together.
- T-Dog: No, I mean... What are we doin'? People off in the woods, they's looking for that poor girl and we're here. Why? 'Cause they think we're the weakest. What are you, 70?
- Dale Horvath: 64.
- T-Dog: Uh-huh... And I'm the one black guy. Realize how precarious that makes my situation?
- Dale Horvath: What the hell are you talking about?
- T-Dog: I'm talking about two good-old-boy cowboy sheriffs and a redneck whose brother cut off his own hand because I dropped a key. Who in that scenario you think is gonna be first to get lynched?
- Dale Horvath: You can't be serious. Am I... Hey, am I missing something? Those cowboys have done all right by us. And if I'm not mistaken, that redneck went out of his way to save your ass. More than once.
- [T-Dog tries to tell Dale about Andrea not being all the way there]
- T-Dog: Don't forget about Andrea. Kills her own sister.
- Dale Horvath: She was already dead.
- T-Dog: Then wants to blow herself up. Yeah, she's all there.
- Dale Horvath: She's having a tough time. What is wrong with you?
- T-Dog: The whole world's having a tough time.
- [the girls in Daryl's group ask him how much further it is back to the interstate]
- Lori Grimes: How much farther?
- Daryl Dixon: Not much. Maybe a hundred yards as the crow flies.
- Carol Peletier: Too bad we're not crows.
- Andrea Harrison: [as Andrea kicks her way through the woods] Oh. Oh! As the crow flies, my ass.
- [Rick talks to Hershel about his farm being beautiful from the rest of the world]
- Rick Grimes: This place is beautiful.
- Hershel Greene: Been in my family 160 years.
- Rick Grimes: I can't believe how serene it is. How untouched. You're lucky.
- Hershel Greene: We weren't completely unscathed. We lost friends, neighbors. The epidemic took my wife, my stepson.
- Rick Grimes: I'm sorry.
- Hershel Greene: My daughters were spared. I'm grateful to God for that. These people here, all we've got left is each other.
- [Lori sees Carl laying in bed unconscious from his gunshot wound]
- Lori Grimes: [Lori crawls in bed with Carl] My boy. My baby boy. Baby boy. It's okay. Mama's here. Mama's here. You're gonna be okay. You're gonna be okay.
- Lori Grimes: [Lori grips onto Rick's hand as she holds Carl against her] We're gonna make you okay.
- [Lori asks Rick how many transfusions he's given Carl]
- Lori Grimes: How many transfusions?
- Rick Grimes: Two... Only two.
- Lori Grimes: You know he wanted to do the same for you when you were in the hospital. I had to talk him out of it.
- [Lori asks Hershel what kind of doctor is he as they talk about surgery for Carl]
- Lori Grimes: Okay... I mean, you've done this procedure before?
- Hershel Greene: Well, yes, in a sense.
- Lori Grimes: In a sense?
- Rick Grimes: Honey, we don't have the luxury of shopping for a surgeon.
- Lori Grimes: No, I understand that. But, I mean, you're a doctor, right?
- Hershel Greene: Yes, ma'am. Of course. A vet.
- Lori Grimes: A veteran? A combat medic?
- Hershel Greene: A veterinarian.
- Lori Grimes: And you've done this surgery before on what? Cows? pigs?
- Rick Grimes: [Rick nearly falls over] I... I have... I have to sit.
- [Lori tells Hershel he's way in over his head to think he can perform the surgery on Carl]
- Lori Grimes: [Lori in a low voice] Completely in over your head, aren't you?
- Hershel Greene: Ma'am, aren't we all?
