Greg Nicotero directing Scott Ian from Anthrax for AMC's "The Walking Dead" Webisodes
The Emmy Award Winning special effects make-up artist and Horror Makeup legend Greg Nicotero has been upgraded to Executive Producer of AMC's The Walking Dead in a deal that intriguingly includes a first-look clause that will give Nicotero the opportunity to pitch his own series to the channel in the future.
The move is a smart one by AMC. With pundits everywhere questioning the removal of another legend from The Walking Dead, former show-runner and mast filmmaker Frank Darabont, Nicotero's promotion to the production team could very easily balance out the negative press. As any horror fan knows, the special effects makeup chair is considered as important as the director's, and even the writers. Several special effects makeup artists have risen to rock-star like status in the genre--Tom Savini, Ed French, Mark Shostrom, Rick Baker,...
