Three months from now, the Weeknd might just have an Emmy to place alongside his four Grammys and his Oscar nomination.
That’s because he joins a dozen other music superstars — including Dolly Parton, Common, Ryan Tedder, “Weird Al” Yankovic and Meshell Ndegeocello — who have entered work in this year’s Emmy competition.
Voting began yesterday in the seven music categories. Approximately 550 members of the Academy’s music branch will cast ballots, although viewing the hundreds of entries before voting ends on June 26 is an impossible task, Academy officials privately concede.
The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye, is among the 19 entries in the Music Direction category. He submitted “The Weeknd Live at Sofi Stadium,” an HBO special that aired in February. If nominated, he’s likely to be up against such past winners as Adam Blackstone and Rickey Minor (“The Oscars”).

Dear Edward is one and done at Apple TV+.
The streaming service canceled the Jason Katims drama on Wednesday after one season.
The news is a bit of a surprise because Apple TV+ has canceled few shows after their first seasons.
But Dear Edward didn't break out in the way the service expected.
Dear Edward launched with the first three episodes of its 10-episode first season on Friday, February 3, 2023, followed by one new episode weekly every Friday through March 24, 2023.
The series was adapted from Napolitano's bestselling, acclaimed novel of the same name, Dear Edward is a heartbreaking, life-affirming, and uplifting story about survival, resilience, connection, and the examination of what makes us human.
Dear Edward tells the story of Edward Adler (played by O'Brien), a 12-year-old boy who survives a devastating commercial plane crash that kills every other passenger on the flight, including his family.

Dear Edward,
The news from Apple isn’t good.
The iPhone maker/streamer has canceled its Jason Katims-produced drama Dear Edward, making the series about the lone survivor of a plane crash one of Apple’s few scripted shows to get the ax after a single season.
Based on the book by Ann Napolitano, the series reunited Friday Night Lights creator Katims with leading lady Connie Britton and revolved around Edward (Colin O’Brien), a young boy who was the lone survivor of a plane crash. Taylor Schilling, Amy Forsyth, Carter Hudson, Anna Uzele, Idris DeBrand, Ivan Saw, Dario Ladani Sanchez, Eva Ariel Binder and Brittany S. Hall rounded out the cast. (Britton only had a one-year deal for the show, though Katims expressed hope of continuing her story should a second season have come.)

“Dear Edward” actress Anna Uzele knows that fans might dislike the ending for her character Adriana and her love interest Kojo (Idris Debrand) in the Apple TV+ drama series’ finale episode, but she sees the love in it.
Uzele’s character Adriana Washington entered the story from the mind of Jason Katims, who adapted Ann Napolitano’s novel to create an ensemble story that also stars Taylor Schilling as Lacey, Connie Britton as Dee Dee and Colin O’Brien as Edward Adler, the titular character who survives a plane crash that killed his family and every other passenger. Adriana loses her grandmother and boss, Congresswoman Rose Washington (Lynda Gravatt), in the crash, but she befriends Kojo (Debrand), who flies to New York from Ghana to take in his niece Becks (Khloe Bruno) after her mother (and his sister), dies in the crash.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the season finale of Apple TV+’s Dear Edward.
Grief isn’t linear, and it doesn’t have a time limit either.
While Season 1 of the Apple TV+ series Dear Edward — which tells the story of a grief group that brings together the loved ones of the passengers of a fatal plane crash — has come to an end, creator Jason Katims tells Deadline that he’s only scratched the surface of the stories that he wants to tell with these characters. The series has not officially been renewed for a second season, though Katims is waiting patiently for the call.
“There’s 15 or 16 main characters in the show, but there are 180 people on that flight. And aside from those 180, there are all the people whose lives have been touched by that,” he said, adding: “There’s lots of stories left to tell here.

With season finales come the question of “what’s next”? And, as TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the Apple TV+ drama shows, that’s also a question that Dee Dee (Connie Britton) will have to ask herself on Dear Edward in the March 24 episode. “What’s with grief group ending after three months?” she wonders. “It’s not like we’re magically cured just because the airline is so cheap they won’t pay for more sessions.” And no, it’s not that she doesn’t have a life to get back to like other people do. “I do, I have a very full life, just Fyi,” she insists. And, as she sees it, “these people need me a lot more than I need them.” Watch the clip above for more. What started out as a joke may become a reality for the support group in Dear Edward, as seen in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the March 3 episode. In the “Folklore” clip, Sam (Dario Ladani Sanchez) shares, “I cleared out Ben’s storage unit. I took all his stuff to Goodwill and I couldn’t leave a single thing there… They say that a lot of those donations just end up getting thrown away, so I just couldn’t.” He admits, “It just felt wrong.” Lacey (Taylor Schilling) gets it, since her garage is still full with her sister’s belongings. “What if we had a garage sale?” Linda (Amy Forsyth) suggests. Dee Dee (Connie Britton) is “opposed to garage sales on principle,” and Sam isn’t completely on board either, explaining, “The last thing that I want to do is make money off of his death.” But Lacey has an idea.

Nicolas Cage gets a ride in this exclusive first-look image from upcoming survival action-thriller Arcadian (formerly titled Sand and Stones).
The Oscar winner — soon to be seen playing Dracula in Universal’s Renfield with Nicholas Hoult — stars alongside Jaeden Martell (It, Knives Out), Maxwell Jenkins (Dear Edward, Lost in Space) and Sadie Soverall (Fate: The Winx Saga, Saltburn) in the film, directed by Ben Brewer, who was the lead visual effects artist for Everything Everywhere All At Once (and reunites with Cage following the filmmaker’s feature debut The Trust).
Highland Film Group is handling worldwide rights to the feature, which recently wrapped production in Dublin, Ireland and is now in post-production.
Written by Michael Nilon (Braven starring Jason Momoa), Arcadian is set in a post-apocalyptic and sparsely populated world, where Paul (Cage) and his twin teenage sons, Joseph (Martell) and Thomas (Jenkins), have managed to claw out an existence yet live in constant fear.

One major change that Jason Katims made in adapting “Dear Edward” from Ann Napolitano’s novel involved casting Connie Britton in a brand new role that really centers the show, but does not exist in the book.
Britton, who has previously collaborated with Katims for “Friday Night Lights,” portrays the charismatic and wealthy Dee Dee, who loses her husband and the family breadwinner in the crash, in the AppleTV+ show.
“I did not read the book and Dee Dee is not in the book.” Britton told TheWrap. “She comes from very humble beginnings, but then she creates this life with all her beautiful things and there’s something that is very sort of free. She has this kind of freedom to be very open-hearted and loving in a way because she has so much privilege, and so it’s sort of hard to know which came first.”
