Ashleigh Banfield is sticking with NewsNation.
On Wednesday, the Nexstar Media Group-owned cable news channel said it had successfully negotiated a multi-year extension of Banfield’s contract, which will keep her eponymous prime-time conversation program on NewsNation for a while longer.
Banfield was one of NewsNation’s first hires, back when the channel was still operating under its previous branding, WGN America. She took over a slot occupied by a nightly news program in prime-time, vowing to resurrect the conversation-style chat show made popular by Charlie Rose and Larry King (CNN).
“I’m an avid news junkie,” Banfield said in an interview with Variety. “Something that’s been missing for me as a consumer has been the center lane — I’m exhausted by the breathless fights in cable news, and I long for the days when I could just be informed of what was...

Cassidy Hutchinson has some words of warning for anyone still considering standing up for Donald Trump in court, or anywhere, for that matter: Don’t.
Hutchinson, the former White House aid who came to fame when she testified before the the Jan. 6 committee about Trump throwing his dishes at the wall and other details about what went down behind the scenes as the riot raged, appeared Tuesday on “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” to promote her book, “Enough.”
O’Donnell asked Cassidy at one point what she would say to the two co-defendants in Trump’s documents-handling case who now face charges of their own in Florida.
After a long pause, she replied: “I would say, think long and hard about where your loyalties lie and who you are and who you want to be. Do you want to protect somebody that sees you as expendable, that sees you as their shield?...

MSNBC outpaced Fox News in primetime demo ratings for the second week in a row.
From Monday, June 12 through Friday, June 16, MSNBC averaged 202,400 viewers in the key cable demographic adults ages 25-54 during primetime, beating Fox News’ primetime demo viewership of 193,000 by 4.75%, according to Nielsen live-plus-same-day figures.
As the networks ramped up their coverage of former President Donald Trump’s indictment and arraignment, Fox News scored the highest demo viewership among cable news networks during primetime on Monday and Tuesday, while MSNBC saw primetime demo wins during the latter half of the week, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
While MSNBC’s victory in the primetime demo certainly marks a shakeup in ratings from years prior, Fox News maintained its lead in all other categories across primetime and total day viewership.

MSNBC dominated Fox News and CNN during Friday’s ratings as cable news channels turned their attention to cover former President Donald Trump’s newly unsealed federal indictment.
As viewers tuned in to get the details on the former president’s mishandling of classified documents — which the editorial board of the National Review condemned as impossible for anyone to read and “not be appalled” — MSNBC scored the highest total viewership and demo viewership among the cable news channels both in total day and primetime, leading Friday to become MSNBC’s second-most-watched day of the year, behind April 4, when Trump was arraigned in Manhattan on New York state charges unrelated to the federal charges.
In terms of total day figures, MSNBC came in first place with 1.51 million total viewers, while Fox News brought in 1.32 million total viewers and CNN drew in 730,000 total viewers on average, according to Nielsen live-plus-same-day figures. The...

New CNN boss Chris Licht’s latest — and biggest — shakeup of the news network’s lineup signals an attempt to hit two (or three) birds with one stone.
By shifting Don Lemon from his 10 p.m. Et perch after a seven-year run, Licht is eliminating the lowest-rated show in primetime cable news, according to August ratings from Nielsen Media Research — while also quieting critics who have targeted Lemon’s opinionated hosting style. And by tapping Lemon to lead the network’s as-yet-untitled new morning show alongside Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins, Licht also aims to give new life to another key part of the schedule that has long lagged behind MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” in viewership.
Lemon, who had become a lightning rod for CNN’s conservative critics for comments like calling Donald Trump a “blatant white supremacist,” will now have a less politics-heavy...

The O'Reilly Factor beat All In with Chris Hayes at 8pm, but by only 3K viewers.

Sometimes people in the media like to break the fourth wall in moments of self-reflection. Lawrence O'Donnell had one of those moments tonight, when guest Richard Wolffe said the country needs to have the debate set off by Edward Snowden revealing details of secret Nsa programs. O'Donnell responded to Wolffe by actually saying that the excitement of Snowden going on the run is why the media has stopped engaging in that debate. In other words, Edward Snowden is to blame for the media's obsession with Edward Snowden.

On Wednesday night, The Last Word host Lawrence O'Donnell and panel did their level best to turn a cold hose on the panting humpery that has attended the opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Library, particularly the conservative effort to turn terrorism into a game of Parcheesi, and then cheat at it. MsNBC.com Vice President Richard Wolffe and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean joined Lawrence in reminding viewers that President Bush did preside over a fairly serious terrorist attack on the homeland, but stopped short of completely correcting Rep. Tom Cotton's (R-ar) sick scorecard.

As we enter day two of the Rand Paul Constitutional Sainthood Movement, drone skeptics on all sides continue to beclown themselves by praising the Kentucky Senator as a "flawed messenger" for drone ocversight, as if none of the garbage that flew out of his face for 13 hours counts as "the message." Among the qualified Rand fans is, apparently, The Huffington Post's Ryan Grim, who told The Last Word host Lawrence O'Donnell that President Obama should release the secret "Kill List" to prevent nuts like Rand Paul from just making stuff up.

With the Occupy movement having left Wall Street definitively this weekend after footage surfaced of students at Uc Davis being pepper-sprayed en masse, its most vocal unofficial spokespeople have taken to the airwaves to praise the students for their efforts. Not to be left behind is Michael Moore, who spoke to Lawrence O'Donnell today and one of the students attacked, Kase Wheatley, telling the latter that the image of him and his colleagues being pepper sprayed would be received by the world the same way the images of Tiananmen Square were.

With the Occupy Wall Street protests nearly coming to a head this weekend as police attempted, then reneged on a plan to clean up Zuccotti Park, filmmaker and protest supporter Michael Moore visited Lawrence O'Donnell last night to discuss the progress of the protests and their increasingly more coherent demands. Moore, who, by the way, has a book to sell, reminded the audience that the 1% "didn't get to own most of the nation's wealth by being stupid," and that the protesters at this point would only be satisfied to see "a perp walk."...

Filmmaker Michael Moore, who continues his vigil at the ongoing Occupy Wall Street protest in lower Manhattan, dropped in on The Last Word to let host Lawrence O'Donnell know how things are going. We're not down here to support Senate bill 2567. We're beyond that. They had their chance a long time ago to try and fix this. They didn't fix it because they're in the pocket of these people down here on Wall Street. Moore kicked things off by giving a synopsis of what the protest is not about: So this is not about supporting some piece of legislation or "let's get behind some politician."...

Lawrence O'Donnell's show on MSNBC debuted in its new time slot Monday night to signficantly higher ratings than his predecessor, Keith Olbermann, managed.
According to The Wrap, audience numbers for 'The Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell' were boosted by Olbermann fans and curious viewers tuning in to see what all the fuss was about.
O'Donnell's sudden move from 10Pm Et to Olbermann's former time of 8Pm Et came after Olbermann announced his abrupt exit from MSNBC on Friday's 'Countdown.'
O'Donnell had about 50 percent more viewers than Olberman's show averaged in the same slot. However, according to MSNBC President Phil Griffin, the ratings target for O'Donnell is the same as it was for Olbermann: Bill O'Reilly.

Lawrence O'Donnell is not pleased with the New Oxford American Dictionary's decision to select the Sarah Palin nonsense mashup "refudiate" as their word of the year.
"While reality shows eventually fade away, Sarah Palin made a much more lasting and damaging contribution to society this week -- she is being allowed to rewrite the English Language," O'Donnell complained on 'The Last Word With Lawrence O'Donnell' (weekdays, 10Pm Et on MSNBC.)
"No doubt Sarah Palin and her supporters will take this honor and run with it; next they will be demanding that cartographers actually move Russia even closer to Sarah Palin house."
Now that's a pretty good zinger. And a much more healthy response to the influence Palin and her minions wield than that of the guy who shot out his TV because he was frustrated that Bristol Palin inexplicably keeps escaping the cut on "Dancing With the Stars.
