Like in EcoQuest 1: The Search for Cetus (1991), since the game is meant for children, the protagonist (Adam) cannot die - in contrast to most of Sierra games. Furthermore, if the player gets stuck, the other game characters offer hints.
In addition to the regular icon commands included in the icon interface of many Sierra games (Walk, Look, Take/Use and Talk), there are two special icons as a part of the ecological nature of the game: the first (also in EcoQuest 1: The Search for Cetus (1991)) is an icon of recycling symbol, whose function is to clean garbage throughout the game. The second is bat-shaped icon, pressing on it provides interesting facts about ecology in general and about rainforests in particular.
In the beginning of the game, Adam's father gives him "Ecorder", a tricorder-like device used to scan and store data about things Adam finds during his journey, sorted by topics: animals, plants, eco-threats, indigenous people and ancient cultures.
Except the game genre and the characters of Adam and his father, this game has little to do with the first game EcoQuest 1: The Search for Cetus (1991).
