Predictable movie made for a mediocre outcome...

For a thriller, then "The Victim" was as predictable and 'by-the-book' as they come. Everything that happened in the movie, you saw it coming a mile away - well, except for the ending, which I found to be really great, especially as Michael Biehn delivered it so gracefully.

The story in "The Victim" is about Kyle (played by Michael Biehn) who lives isolated as a hermit in a small cottage in the middle of nowhere. Then one night a Annie (played by Jennifer Blanc) comes banging on his door, pleading for help, claiming that she is being followed and that the men killed her friend Mary (played by Danielle Harris). Following that, two officers of the law, James (played by Ryan Honey) and Jonathan (played by Denny Kirkwood) shows up at the cottage to ask Kyle some questions. Something is not adding up here, but what? The acting in the movie was alright, nothing extraordinary or remarkable though. But people did alright with their given characters and roles.

Despite being very predictable, then "The Victim" was actually entertaining and had a nice ending. There was a good and constant pace to the movie, which was alright, and the movie never slowed down and became dull. It was just a shame that the movie suffered horribly from its predictability.

As for the soundtrack to the movie, well personally I didn't find it the least bit interesting or suitable, but of course, we all have very different taste in music. I just found this soundtrack unsuitable and the songs didn't really fit into the mood of the movie.

There are far better thrillers out there on the movie market, but still, "The Victim" is good for a single watching, as it just doesn't have the contents to support more than a single watching.

Victim=Viewer?

I'm not a big fan of movies like this one, but it's pretty solid for what it represents. It is a surprise that Michael Biehn would do something like this, but he's open about this movie. It's not supposed to be taken seriously in any way. I get it that people were not pleased by it, but I'd hope some reviews wouldn't be so personal. I don't think Jennifer Blanc does a good job in this, but insulting her with foul language is really not a good way to express that.

The movie itself is pretty predictable, has some sex, some violence in it and Michael Biehn does also play in his own movie. This was shot quick and as gritty as possible. It's not for film purists and it won't satisfy gore hounds either (most of them anyway). But while ill-advised flashbacks do not add anything to the story, you're wasting your time being angry at a movie, that never pretends to be anything else than it actually is. If this is the worst movie you've seen, you should call yourself lucky or watch more movies. In any way, this curiosity is worth a look, but don't bother watching more than 5-10 minutes, if you feel that it doesn't work for you.

Low budget B-rate horror movie with some pretty bad acting but overall pretty entertaining & watchable. I've seen worse. I say B-

"I move all the way out here to get away from people, get away from trouble and this crap lands at my doorstep." Annie (Blanc) and her friend Mary (Harris) are out camping with their dates. When things go to far Mary ends up dead and Annie runs for her life. She ends up at the remote cabin of Kyle (Biehn) who wants nothing to do with her. After hearing her story he decides to help her, when he hears another side to it he is not sure who to trust. This is yet again another movie that has no real substance but is fairly entertaining to watch. The acting is pretty bad and the dialog is not impressive but it does keep you watching till the end. There are a few twists but to me this was still predictable. I have seen worse and for a B-rate horror movie this was not the bad. There are some fairly graphic sexual scenes in this but nothing over the top so if that offends you I would avoid this. All that said it did keep me interested for the whole time. Overall, nothing super but a good one time watch. I give it a B-.

Excellent contender for the worst movie I've ever seen

I felt more obligated to write this review to negate the extremely overinflated reviews here than to exact my own personal revenge against this catastrophe of a "movie".

I only noticed one truthful review, hidden amongst the pack of fans who gave offensively high numbers of stars, and really, for a small independent movie, it's to be expected. But, even in allegiance to a favourite actor, I can't imagine the willpower it must have taken for them to type out their drivel.

Okay, so now actually onto the movie.

I've seen my fair share of exploitation movies; some good, some bad. What Biehn has managed to do is create the absolute worst, and I don't mean that it's incredibly graphic - it lacks any sort of gritty impact or violence. Well, it has plenty of sex, that has to be something, right? Nope. Instead of creating an homage to grindhouse, I like to think that he has invented a sub-genre called outhouse.

Lousy direction, ridiculous writing, sloppy editing, a laughable soundtrack, a cast that has the combined acting versatility of a single plank of wood, and no story. Packed full of moody driving sequences with conversation reminiscent of old people talking about the day's weather. Now, I have to emphasise that the writing is really, really bad; it violates our intelligence. Nevermind that The Victim was filmed in under two weeks, it was probably written in under half an hour.

Ryan Honey playing the corrupt cop was just painful to watch, easily the worst combination of casting and acting I've had to put up with. Danielle Harris was only marginally better, but still utterly useless. I really don't know what was up with Biehn, who just raised his voice when he was angry, or his wife's inane ramblings.

If you've ever seen the TV series Lost, then I'm sure you'll have hated those Kate centric episodes with her terrible flashbacks. If you watch The Victim, then you'll be treated with flashbacks a hundred times more redundant and boring. I was with two friends at this screening and every time a flashback popped up we couldn't help but let out suicidal groans.

I went to this screening with an open mind, but I had checked the reviews on this site beforehand and, well, they were very easy to see through. Save yourself from becoming a victim to this travesty - I am not exaggerating in the slightest. Thankfully, it hasn't had a wide release as of the time of writing this review, but it will probably be torn to pieces when some delusional distributer puts out there.

Mildly amusing in a jaw-dropping "What the ?" kinda way

I agree with what some of the negative reviewers have said that this was obviously made so that Biehn could have sex on screen with his middle-aged wife who could show off her boobies. I didn't know they were an item until I read the reviews here after the film, but it was clear watching it that he chose her for reasons other than any ability to act and gave her so much screen time for no reason.

It was also obvious that this was an ego-stroking exercise for Biehn who was very careful to show himself off as nude as possible, which I felt was for him his last hurrah to show the world his bod as he teeters on the brink of proper old age when there's nothing that can be done to maintain any appearance of the body we had in our youth. So he made the most of this opportunity - and so did his wife, because saggy-bagginess hits ladies far sooner than gents; so she also made the most of the opportunity while they had completely unnecessary sex every which way (and it's not even sexy).

She kept telling him how great he looks for 54 - I actually thought he looked 64 in a lot of the scenes and that's me being honest rather than cruel.

The film is very disjointed, which isn't helped by the pointless flashbacks that added zero to the plot and were simply time fillers. All through watching it I was expecting what I was seeing/hearing to mean something somewhere along the line, but nothing did - the whole thing just tumbled along in a very flabby way.

But probably the fact that I was waiting for things to gel and/or mean something as the story flubbered along to its end was the only reason I stayed with it, because I thought that it was going to get better and come good... but it never did.

I'd watch it again actually, because it's one of those films when after a few days I think, "What the heck was that? Did I miss something important, or was it really that bad?" So I'll take another look at least halfway to check my judgement. I wouldn't tell anyone NOT to watch it, because it's a 'curiosity' - though I can't imagine anyone genuinely thinking this is anything more than a mediocre film; and I'm a big fan of Biehn!

one of the worst movies i have seen in a while. What redeeming qualities does this movie have? naked chicks, that is all and you can get naked chicks with a quick click of the mouse so what is the point of this movie? the plot is terrible, there is not enough killing, there is just sex and flashbacks and terrible acting. man this movie was terrible and im even more mad that i paid money for it! i read reviews from people calling it a throwback to grindhouse....where? where is this throwback? i do not see it and you people mislead me! im sorry but this movie bothered me...i bought wrong turn 5, it sucked but i got what i paid for. I bought beyond the black rainbow, it sucked but it was only $10 brand new and i new i was taking a risk. I bought this movie, it sucked and i feel ripped off. Do not watch this movie, i rarely hate on a movie like this and don't tell people to go elsewhere but i found nothing good about this movie. That is all.

Budget: Hardly Chump Change...Movie: Hardly Worth It

Ultra-low budget private effort at a throwback to what was known as Grindhouse Movies. A deliberate attempt to be lurid with lazy film making and exploitation sub-genre subject matter. The more gore (H.G. Lewis), nudity (Roger Corman/Russ Meyer), the better and with great colorful posters and titles (Bloody Mama, The Gore Gore Girls) they would attract audiences and the public with taboo breaking bad flicks.

Most of them were pretty awful, with an occasional sleeper hit and a later discovered cult classic (The Texas Chainsaw, Massacre, Ms.45. Basket Case). But unless you are willing to go way over the top (Tarantino & Rodriguez) or somehow find a great script or story, the results are predictably, almost always BAD.

The trouble with setting out to make a bad movie (Attack of the Killer Tomatoes) is that it usually results in nothing sensational. LIke this Movie. The charm of an Ed wood movie is that he was not winking at the audience, he was trying really hard and the result was a primitive style that endures.

There may be kudos for an attempt, but eight hundred thousand dollars is hardly chump change, even in the independent film world, and this comes off more like someone saying lets make a gritty movie while we're on vacation, rather than an auteur deciding, well we only have a few bucks and a lot of willing folks so we can do this thing.

This movie is lacking sensationalism with unattractive nudity, has mundane violence, no surprises and is ultimately uninteresting, not entertaining, or worth the effort.

One of the worst

I've seen some terrible movies but this is one of the worst. The writing and acting are not even laughable, just bad beyond boring. There isn't enough nudity to make it worth watching, and Biehn's wife just looks like an ugly low-priced prostitute, so who wants to see her nude. There is nothing believable or gory about the violence, so even the violence junkies will be bored.

It was supposedly filmed in 12 days, it was probably written in 12 minutes, sorry to see Michael Biehn come to this.

He gave a relative a job as make-up artist or something, and gave himself and his wife a job acting in it, but he should have to pat people to watch it.

I watched this movie yesterday and it held me and I was always interested in where it was going.

Why people are giving it one star because they feel some reviews are biased means the whole rating of this movie is incorrect.

Terms like "worst movie I've ever seen" seem ridiculous as it is not. Ghost rider 2 came out and that was my vote for worst recent movie.

some acting was good some was cheesy and cardboard but overall it didn't affect the movie as most was fine. If you are going to pigeon hole it I would say grind house would be a good place to put it. Don't expect Shakespeare.

I would definitely watch another movie like this again but won't watch this movie again as after the first viewing there is nothing to be gained from another viewing.

I have to say that after seeing that Michael Biehn was in this I was kind of looking forward to seeing this movie. And I noticed that Danielle Harris was in the film too, so you would think it would be half decent right? Then I saw that he wrote and directed it also. After saying that I wish he had not written and directed it as it was horrible. His wife Jennifer Blanc also stars in the film and I'm pretty sure that Biehn made this film just so he could have sex with her on camera and so people could see her boobs, because she couldn't act in this film, and Biehn himself was also bad in it. The story was not that good either, and the rest of the cast wasn't much better in the acting stakes. The movie felt like it was two hours long as it seemed to take forever to finish, but it's actually only 80 minutes long. I couldn't wait until it was over. I recommend that you give this film a miss, save your time and money. I give it a 2 out of 10, only reason it gets that much is the good head bashing at the end.

The Victim, the first product of Blacnbiehn productions, turned out exactly the way they intended. Meant to be a take or tribute if you will to the old 'grindhouse' type movies. Michael Biehn's first official attempt at writing and second at directing, inspired by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's own Grindhouse collaboration, used or exploited (as Michael like to say) all the typical grindhouse venues; sex, drugs, murder, serial killer, suspense. Before the premier Michael made sure to point out "don't be afraid to laugh, its not meant to be all serious". After all, didn't we all laugh at those weekend grindhouse movies in the 60's and 70's and their corniness? Its a fun movie to be seen again and again.

doesn't add anything to the genre

I was looking forward to see The Victim. Have seen a lot of Biehn flicks I liked his performance in Bereavement (2010) and liked The Divide (2011) his second attempt as a director here I didn't like. Being sold as a grindhouse movie to pick in on the success of the genre I can't really say it was a grindhouse flick. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad on part of the directing but it didn't deliver gore or anything to call it a grindhouse.

It's more flick with a lot of talking and a bit of action that you could see coming miles away. The end wasn't a surprise at all. Slowly you can see who the real killer is. It do has a steaming love scene between Biehn and his actual wife Jennifer Blanc who isn't afraid to show her body here. For the horror buffs you will see another famous face, that of Danielle Harris. She's not that often in this flick but when she does she really looks sexy and if that tattoo is for real, just have a look at it. She's walking around as a whore and do shows her body a few times in sexy underwear.

On part of the horror itself there isn't any at all. We do have flashbacks explaining what went wrong but you could guess it all by just watching The Victim. You can only ask yourself, who is the real victim. The last 10 minutes has the only gore to see but by then it's too late to call it a horror.

Just another mediocre flick with a fine cast but it doesn't deliver anything special to the genre. Only the hunters for celebrity nudity should watch this flick.

Nevertheless, it's been promoted well being spotted in every horror magazine and released worldwide. Still, I missed something. You can see it with your kids, maybe that says enough.

Annie's life is in jeopardy after she witnesses the murder of her friend.

Fleeing from two attackers she stumbles across Kyle, who has a cabin in the woods.

Kyle finds the stillness of the woods comforting, and stays far from anything or anyone else, until a knock on his door throws his life into chaos......

Ever since The Terminator, Biehn has always been quality in whatever movie he's been in, from Aliens to Navy Seals, to The Rock, no matter how small the role,he's always made an impact, so a directorial effort from him would always be a curioso piece.

And plus the added factor of its exploitation roots, and Danielle Harris, I was looking forward to this.

And then I waited for the film to get going, waited a bit more, and then the film finished with a twist that you can see coming from a mile off.

Take away the the story, and the film is nothing more than a vanity project for him and his wife. The script is full of compliments to them both, Harris is hardly in it, and its nothing more than a revenge flick, a downright boring one at that.

Biehn though, no matter how big his ego must have been making this, puts in a good performance, but it cannot save the film from what it is.

Grindhouse fail

Apparently, the seed of THE VICTIM was planted during a conversation between star Michael Biehn and director Robert Rodriguez while they were making PLANET TERROR; the latter advised the former just how easy it would be to make his own, homemade-style, grindhouse-type movie on a budget out in the woods. So here we have it, THE VICTIM, a wannabe-throwback to the 1970s exploitation films of old, shot out in the woods on the cheap, written by, directed, and starring Biehn.

Sadly, the film turns out to be a right dud; it quickly transpires that Biehn is a much better actor than he is a writer or director, and the movie as a whole suffers from a scant script and a real lack of storyline and originality. There are only five characters in this slow, barely-anything-going-on movie, a mix of redneck weirdos, hookers, and drug-addled cops.

Inevitably the expected - and extensive - sex scenes are present, alongside a little nudity and gore to appease male viewers. Unfortunately the storyline just isn't complex enough to sustain the brief running time, so Biehn unwisely pads his movie out with endless flashback scenes involving a couple of the female characters which add absolutely nothing to the plot. They seem merely an excuse to show off Scream Queen Danielle Harris (CYRUS: MIND OF A SERIAL KILLER) in a parade of skimpy underclothes. The acting is generally sub-standard, aside from Biehn himself, who puts in a typically charismatic performance; a shame the rest of this amateurish movie doesn't match.

Just got done watching the movie and it was awesome!! Very good plot, just enough action to keep you interested. A very enjoyable film. One not to be taken too seriously, but keeps you thinking. Would very much like to see it again when it is released.

The actors did a wonderful job, and for Biehn's directorial debut, he has proved that he can get the job done. Filming a movie in 12 days is phenomenal!

I will be sure to tell everyone about "The Victim" and start planning my "Victim" release party! Can't Wait!! Thanks for allowing us the chance to preview it!

Mentally deranged and mentally ill

WORST. MOVIE. EVER. This movie should have zero stars. Michael Biehen is a very sick man. He wrote this script where his character snaps the neck of a girl as they are having sex. Very sick. Even if this was based on a story by someone else, it needed to stay just that - a story. Super sickening.

Does what it sets out to do

I bought this DVD out of curiosity and wasn't expecting much after reading the reviews on here - some scathing, some ridiculously gushing– but I have to say I enjoyed it. It's fun, fast paced and not too long. I admit some of the enjoyment may have been in seeing MB with his shirt off again (it's been a long time since Terminator). Weaknesses are a couple of places where MB's acting is wooden, like the scene where he first meets Annie - maybe this is a consequence of directing himself? Also, the dialogue is occasionally unconvincing, for instance when the girls get together and discuss men. Mostly it works though - I even laughed out loud once at the black humour. The soundtrack was mostly average, but with a couple of good bits to entertain us while we are driving through the woods. It was a nice touch to show all of the crew at the end, including the dog. The important thing about this movie is that it's fun to watch, and if MB directed another movie, I would most likely want to see it.

Oh my Lordy.....As soon as the characters start talking I knew this was going to be a rough one. I've never seen what is horrible dialogue to begin with delivered in such a flat and wooden manner. Clunky lifeless delivery. The lead girl is like the Tori Spelling of horror, which isn't flattering. Geez man who wants to see a bunch of middle aged losers slobber and grope each other? No chemistry between anyone. Horrendous editing with a very inappropriate and distracting soundtrack. Music of this genre is supposed to create a dark atmosphere and tension. No idea what he was thinking with these choices. It's like he found an iPod on the street and just put it on shuffle. People just don't act this way if strains credibility at every turn and gets worse as things progress. Doesn't work as drama, horror, and is too awful to be in the so bad it's good category. Michael Biehn has made the stinkiest pile of caca ever. A whole new genre of which only this movie belongs. It's true he can act and act well. Too bad he didn't give himself decent material to work with. He knows good talent, so it's confounding to me why he surrounded himself with a cast with zero talent. It's short, so that's merciful at least. The sparse nudity wasn't erotic or titillating in the least. I wish a plane crashed in the first 15 minutes of this film and incinerated everyone. Gotta love those really really remote cabins that has electricity, internet, and a road right to the front door. Stinks in every possible way. You will be hard pressed to find worse acting.

This could of been so much better if the screenwriters worked the basic story and plot lines more. Sad actually. The premise was there. But got lost, a very lazy effort.

Once Michael got some screen tit time with his squeeze Jennifer, the story kinda of goes flat. Yea, there's some action, corruption, not so surprising surprises.

Worthy for background noise, but not that engrossing.

Interesting little grindhouse thriller which would appeal more to people with an acquired taste.

The decision to watch THE VICTIM was really tough at first having read all the negative reviews about it. Eventually I did see it and yet it isn't that bad. Sure it won't redefine it's genre but the film was entertaining, it had a decent plot and the acting was fair all around. The film is really for people with an acquired taste.

Honestly, the only way I could recommend this film is to see it and decide if you like it or not for yourself. I also recommend you not take it very seriously.

Overall, THE VICTIM isn't really that bad, granted it's not perfect but it will mostly appeal to people with an acquired taste. Also, if you don't take it very seriously it is rather entertaining.

JIM, SHE'S DEAD

Two women of low moral fiber Mary (Danielle Harris) and Annie (Jennifer Blanc-Biehn) go out on a date in the woods with two police officers Jim (Ryan Honey) and Cooger (Denny Kirkwood). Mary (Danielle Harris) is killed during sex by Jim (Ryan Honey) semi-accidentally. The cops decide to kill Annie, who has overheard the conversation and escapes to a cabin occupied by Kyle (Michael Biehn, her real life husband), a man who seemingly has deeper issues than the movie lets on.

The production moves into the abduction phase and uses flashbacks to build the girl's character. The questionable aspect as to the identity of the main character i.e. being a possible serial killer is hinted at, but never fully developed to where the audience knows with certainty. We are left with doubt as is Annie.

I liked the soundtrack and background music used in the film. They didn't go cheap. When two girls listen to music that sounds like Katy Perry, you know they put out. The character of Kyle was too underdeveloped or under utilized, perhaps Michael was wanting to give more of the story to his wife and not turn this into an ego fest.

Does Exactly What It Says On The Tin

There is nothing like going to the cinema with a few friends, hoping for some deliciously, indulgent exploitation action and having all your expectations viciously answered with a solid gut punch of grindhouse film making.

Even with its sultry, unashamedly grindhouse style of film making, The actors all do a great job, there's some real tension, and an underlying quality to the movie that is not often seen in such low budget film making.

Directed, written and starring Michael Biehn and produced by his wife Jennifer Blanc Biehn, The Victim is an instant entry to your favourite exploitation movies.

Check it out at the cinema if you can, I believe Michael and Jennifer Biehn are currently touring the movie to festivals,I got a chance to see it in Dublin, if you cant get it at the cinema, definitely pick it up on DVD/Blu-Ray.

You wont be disappointed.

Journey into the woods for vengeance in The Victim

Over the years Michael Biehn has delivered some of the most popular characters in films like Aliens, The Terminator, and Tombstone. With his latest film The Victim he takes on a much larger role as writer, director, and star to deliver a grindhouse style film that has been receiving much praise. Will he be able to bring the same skill and brilliance to his directing style as he has to his performances?

The Victim follows a young woman running from two attackers that killed her friend. Her only hope is a reclusive man living in the middle of the woods whose life is thrown into a world of chaos with a simple knock on the door. While not exactly what the film seemed to be from the promotions and artwork it still managed to be pretty entertaining. Biehn puts his years of experience to use and showcases clear strength behind the camera as well as in front. His character here is one that fluctuates from various emotions, but still maintains a bit of mystery and darkness. The rest of the cast do a decent job with their characters, although a couple of the performances just didn't hit the mark quite as strongly as it should have. Jennifer Blanc's chemistry with real life husband Biehn shines through as these two spend most of the movie together and really bring the overall film together. Fan favorite Danielle Harris rounds out the cast, but is sadly pushed to a more of second tier level with little to do other than just be eye candy.

This is a throwback to the grindhouse genre that has become the latest trend thanks to the Grindhouse film and works well for what they worked to deliver. For those that have heard about this film, be warned that it is more of a revenge type thriller than horror. Although there is an interesting back story there that will hopefully get explored in the future as it would have been a better direction to take the film.

(2011) The Victim PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER

A serial killer of missing prostitutes and escorts is on the mist of small town, co-written, directed and starring Michael Biehn as he plays. Kyle Limato recovering from a criminal past of six years. And while staying at his isolated cabin in the woods, an escort/ prostitute, Annie (Michael's real life wife at the time, Jennifer Blanc also credited as co-producer) spots his cabin and runs towards it. And by the time Kyle opens the door, Annie is frantic about an incident in which she tries to explain about two people looking for her as a result of her friend, Mary (Danielle Harris) accidentally killed by homicide detective, James Harrison (Ryan Honey credited as co-executive producer). Det James then convinces his friend, who also works in law enforcement, as DEA. Jonathan Cooger (Denny Kirkwood) to become an accessory. It's because Annie is kind of a witness to her friend, Mary's murder committed by James Harrison who accidentally broker her neck after making out with her in the middle of the woods. The first place they drive up to is Kyle's isolated cabin and it is just a matter of time they are going to cross paths again.

Michel Biehn is not bad as writer/ director except that it is way too contained to just this environment. Whereas, don't know enough about Kyle at all such as, did he used to have a job, and what was he doing before he was sent to prison, and for what did he do before he got out? In other words, how did he make his income? For his character is as ambiguous as the actions of the two detectives. Had Biehn received a much bigger budget, it might have been interesting.

The Victim was great escapism!!! Loved it!!!

We were lucky enough to see this film at the Horror Fest in Louisville, Ky this past weekend and it was so much fun to watch. It certainly kept us entertained and how cool is it to watch a movie with the stars themselves right there with everyone. The movie was great and I recommend everyone who gets a chance and likes a good thriller with humor to see it!! I know I will buy it as soon as it is released. The cast was wonderful and I feel honored we were able to share the experience with so many fellow fans of the genre!! This movie was filmed in a very short time frame and rivaled some of the big budget movies playing now. I guess that makes Michael and his wonderful wife brilliant!!
