As congress continues to search for a replacement House Speaker, two frontrunners emerged last week, in the form of Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Steve Scalise. Both options were pretty bleak for John Oliver, especially considering the latter candidate has previously likened himself to the former leader of the Ku Klux Klan.
To kick off his second episode of “Last Week Tonight,” Oliver immediately got into Kevin McCarthy’s ouster, first poking fun at Patrick McHenry, who is filling the role in the interim.
Oliver joked that he looks like “Patton Oswalt as a ventriloquist dummy” and, like most of the late night hosts did this week, had a laugh at how hard McHenry slammed the gavel to adjourn the House after McCarthy was booted. The late night host then turned his attention to Jordan and Scalise, pointing out that Scalise was once equated to “David Duke without the baggage.

Winner of the Balanghai Trophy for Best Screenplay at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, “Baggage” is a film that moves in two axes: motherhood and Philippino social institutions.
Baggage screened at Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian cinema 2018
Mercy Abbunag has just returned home in the Philippines after spending years working abroad and her family is throwing her a party. However, members of the National Bureau of Investigation suddenly appear and ask Mercy to join them on an investigation about a newborn that was dumped into the dustbin of the plane she was boarding. The case has already made the news and has shocked public opinion. As Mercy interacts with various institutions that include the police, a hospital in Manila, social workers who eventually bring her to an asylum where (psychologically) traumatized women live, politicians, the press and her own family, a terrible secret comes to the fore and her...

The award for Best Drama Guest Actress was first presented at the 41st Primetime Emmy Awards in 1989, after years of the category going through various changes including mixing genders and lengths of appearances. Samira Wiley (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) would at the age of 31 become the youngest actress to win in this category, or if changes are taken into consideration, the youngest actress to win since Kathryn Walker. Wiley is nominated alongside two co-stars, Kelly Jenrette and Cherry Jones, as well as Viola Davis (“Scandal”), Diana Rigg (“Game of Thrones”) and Cicely Tyson (“How to Get Away With Murder”).

Cherry Jones returned to the Emmy race with a guest spot on Hulu’s mega-hit “The Handmaid’s Tale.” It’s her first nomination since winning Best Drama Supporting Actress for “24” in 2009, despite memorable appearances on “Transparent” and “American Crime.”
In “Baggage,” June (Elisabeth Moss) reflects on her tumultuous relationship with her mother, Holly (Jones), as she tries to escape from Gilead. A doctor at an abortion clinic, Holly is a rabble-rousing feminist fighting the horrific change she sees coming. She urges her daughter to get more involved rather than “settle” for a job as an assistant editor and marriage to Luke (O-t Fagbenle). Later, when it’s too late and June has been made a handmaid, she’s shown an orientation slideshow by Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) detailing how pollution has ruined the earth, and is horrified to see her mother laboring in one of the colonies.

(We’re going to kickstart our weekly The Handmaid’s Tale review by answering one simple question: Who suffered the most?) The Handmaid’s Tale can get bleak, but never has it been so devastatingly cruel as it was in “Baggage.” That’s because the third episode of season 2 offered a resource that is progressively rare in Hulu’s dystopian series: hope. The next time you’re squished into an economy seat on a cross-country flight and you can’t get up and pee because the beverage cart is blocking the aisle, comfort yourself with this thought: At least my trip is going better than June’s.
Because this week, The Handmaid’s Tale stuffs the former ‘maid into a plane’s cargo hold and promises her freedom… until a hail of bullets brings her voyage on Get Me the Hell Outta Here Airlines ends abruptly — and far short of its desired destination.

One of the themes of Season 2 of “The Handmaid’s Tale” is “Gilead is within you” and you can’t ever escape it. That seems to be the case for Samira Wiley’s Moira in Episode 3, who decides to go by Ruby again — the name she took on while being forced to work at a brothel in the dystopian society that was once the United States.
“I think that that, specifically that episode, is highlighting the other part of freedom that I was talking about, in terms of the loneliness and in that episode she definitely wants to connect with someone else,” Wiley told TheWrap in a recent interview. “But then she realizes that this connection is with a stranger and she doesn’t know if she feels comfortable enough to go there with her and be open with who she is, so that’s why she reverts to being Ruby.”
In Wednesday’s installment, titled “Baggage,” Wiley’s character is seen living in Canada with her best friend June’s (Elisabeth Moss) husband Luke (O-t Fagbenle). While the two are safe and trying to lead a normal life after escaping to the Great White North, it’s easier said than done. And when Moira goes out to a club one night and has a sexual encounter with a woman, when her potential new love interest asks for her name to stay in touch she respond with the moniker she used while forced to entertain the elite men of Gilead at Jezebels.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” has three strong contenders this year in the Emmy race for Best Drama Guest Actress, having won the category last year for Alexis Bledel’s role in the first season. Bledel was promoted to the main cast for the in-progress second season and is expected to reap a nomination for Best Drama Supporting Actress this summer. Bit players looking to assume her mantle are:
Cherry Jones as Holly Osborne
Jones has five minutes of screen time in the season’s third episode, titled “Baggage.” Holly is a brash feminist who is disapproving of her daughter June’s (Elisabeth Moss) career path and fiancé Luke Bankole (O-t Fagbenle) in flashbacks. Jones won the Emmy for Best Drama Supporting Actress in 2009 for “24.” For “Transparent,” Jones shared in a 2015 Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Best Comedy Ensemble and was nominated for a 2015 Critics’ Choice Award for Best Comedy Guest Actress.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read until you’ve watched “Baggage,” the third episode of season two of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
After three episodes of being on the run, June/Offred (Elisabeth Moss) has been captured — and will be sent back to her commander’s house in Gilead.
“This is a police state that really wants to hold onto these handmaids. The chances are that they would catch her — the chances are that she wouldn’t even get away,” showrunner Bruce Miller tells Variety. “We felt like she got away for a long time — she was much more successful than they ever would have wanted her to be in a totalitarian state. So our decision [to have her captured now] was just based on what the reality would be.”
The third episode, entitled “Baggage,” spent time with June as she waited for transportation much the way any “object or package would be smuggled across a border,...

[This story contains spoilers for season two, episode three of Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, called "Baggage."]
Freedom is a fleeting notion indeed.
The third hour of the second season of Hulu's Emmy-winning Handmaid's Tale, "Baggage," brought the recently liberated June (Elisabeth Moss) back down to Earth — or back down to Gilead, more accurately. After successfully running away from the thick of the totalitarian regime in the season premiere and spending weeks in hiding at the offices of The Boston Globe, June was mere seconds away from finally leaving Gilead forever, thanks to a quick ...

(Major spoiler alert: Please do not read ahead unless you’ve seen “Unwomen,” the second episode of Season 2 of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”)
The Colonies of Gilead — radioactive wastelands being cleaned up by condemned criminals — are not places women are meant to survive. And the fastest way to cut your life expectancy even shorter in these toxic prisons is to get on Ofglen/Emily’s (Alexis Bledel) bad side. Too bad no one told that to Marisa Tomei when she guest starred on “Unwomen,” the second episode of Season 2 of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
“Well, Emily has been traumatized again and again to such a degree that you know, I think part of her spirit has broken,” Bledel told TheWrap in an interview ahead of the Hulu series’ sophomore premiere Wednesday.
“She’s really decided to take justice into her own hands. So when Marisa Tomei’s character arrives, a wife — which is very unusual in the Colonies — it does sort of trigger something in her mind and she does sort of formulate this, not so much a plan, but she makes a decision to kind of take her down. You don’t know that until the end of the episode.”

The installment saw Emily (Bledel) — a former handmaid banished to the Colonies for several acts of rebellion — meet a Wife (Tomei) who has also been sent there for cheating on her husband. Emily was a cellular biologist before the creation of Gilead and now serves as an ad hoc medic to her fellow prisoners. That background comes in handy when she decides to get her revenge on the Wife for the part she’s played in promoting and supporting Gilead’s misogynist nightmare.
Emily tells the Wife that the water in their barracks is full of E. Coli, and gives her pills to take to stave off infection, saying it’s because “a mistress was kind” to her once.
Later that night, Emily finds the woman vomiting and reveals that she has actually given the Wife poison. “Every month you held a woman down while your husband raped her. Some things can’t be forgiven.”

Bledel said that the episode had her on her toes as Emily, “has this care-taking energy one moment, and little do you know she’s plotting this violent act at the next. She’s an extremely complex character.”

Here we go, "Bachelorette" fans. Emily Maynard has to choose (or not choose) between the final two men, Arie Luyendyk and Jef Holm. And for the first time ever, "After the Final Rose" is live, brought to you by the not-yet-ready-for-primetime players.
It's most likely live because of some big surprise twist -- do you think it's 'cause Emily chooses one guy initially, then pulls a Jason Mesnick? Or Jefff and Arie found love and ran off together? Or perhaps Emily fell deeply in love with Chris Harrison and they get married on the spot? (That'd be rather amazing, actually.)

It's time for "The Bachelorette: Men Tell All" reunion special, gang. Can you believe there are two hours of this nonsense? Strap in. And have a glass of wine for me.
Chris Harrison kicks things off by asking the audience who wants to finally see Emily Maynard find love? And then he says the American people do too. Well, yes -- does that mean she'll go away then? There is then a pre-taped chitchat where Emily recaps the season. I shall not be recapping the recap.
The Outtakes
They show Emily spilling wine on her gorgeous pink ballgown and then swearing about it, which -- those moments would go a long way to making her more human. They really should've included that. Turns out the egg thing with Travis was even creepier than we ever knew. Dude.Chris is a terrible dancer, but he does get huge credit for trying.

If the dog then pukes in those restaurants and Jerry Springer isn’t around to wipe it up, then that is some serious Baggage: I mean, there’s “Career Rock Bottom” moments and then there’s “Career Rock Bottom” moments… (via VH1 Blog)...

Jerry Springer: "Dancing" No-Show!
Jerry Springer tiptoed his way into the hearts of America during "Dancing with the Stars’" third season, but TooFab has learned he’ll be a no-show at Monday’s reunion episode marking the hit show’s 200th episode, which will bring back previous contestants.
What gives? A source tells TooFab that Springer will instead spend the day in Chicago with his two-year-old grandson. Although he’d love to be at the reunion episode, his schedule has left little time for his personal life, as he travels the country for his other projects, including doing press for the 20th anniversary of "The Jerry Springer Show," hosting "America’s Got Talent’s" 25-city live tour and taping 170 episodes of the game show "Baggage."
Springer celebrated his own show’s anniversary yesterday with an episode taped in New York City’s Times Square.

Jerry Springer took on Sean Hannity over Obama, and the job he is doing so far as president. Springer was booked on Sean Hannity's Fox program Thursday night. The former Cincinnati Mayor is a fixture on Gsn and host of the series "Baggage," Springer, and he is the long-running mediator of trashy people's lives on the "Jerry Springer Show." Jerry took his feisty style to Fox network's barking pundit, who is no fan of the Democrats. "I think Barack Obama has done a good job as president," Springer said. "In fact, I'd say even better than good. Do I agree with every single thing he's done? No. Is America perfect yet? Of course not. ... I must admit...

Jerry Springer's latest iteration of voyeuristic, tabloid television comes in the form of Gsn's Baggage. On the dating show, the former mayor of Cincinnati and host of his eponymous syndicated talk show guides a bachelor or bachelorette through a series of revelations about three prospective dates. The catch? The prospective dates have baggage. Literally. They each tote three suitcases along with them, and each suitcase contains a secret. The bigger the suitcase, the bigger the secret. It's pretty okay as far as bad television goes, though watching really just makes you nostalgic for dating shows from the format's Golden Age in the early 2000s, when Blind Date and The Fifth Wheel ruled the ratings. While Springer will never top Roger Lodge in my book, Baggage isn't doing too shabby. Gsn recently debuted the series' second season and signed svelte Hollywood blogger, Perez Hilton for a short-form web series as...

Do you agree with Jerry that Tiger’s the dirtiest man in Hollywood?
Good news Jesse James — your adulterous ways just aren’t as bad as another well-known sleaze bag. Tiger Woods wins it for being the dirtiest, most unfaithful man in Hollywood and Jerry Springer thinks he’d be the perfect contestant for the Game Show Network’s new dating show, Baggage! ”I think the thing with Jesse is, everyone gets involved with that because of the victim, the whole Sandra Bullock thing,” he told HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “With Tiger, it’s more of him just being a serial cheater!”
“I have never met a human being that doesn’t have baggage,” Jerry continued. “It’s just more out there with famous people. They all have it,” but Tiger Is clearly the worst — he has 16 alleged mistresses after all, where Jesse is only said to have had 4.

Kate Gosselin may have some baggage — 8 kids and a crazy ex-husband — but Jerry Springer thinks she still has a shot at love!
Kate Gosselin needs to stop all this talk of giving up on her dating life! According to Jerry Springer, what Kate needs is to get back in the game — but with an older guy! ”Maybe [Kate should go for] an older guy who would like to have children,” Jerry, the host of the new Game Show Network dating show, Baggage, told HollywoodLife.com Exclusively!
“Surely, there’s someone out there [for Kate],” says Jerry. “There’s someone for everybody, so no one has to be alone in the world.” Awww.
So, who is Kate’s “Mr. Right?” Someone who has “never had children and this is instant family,” Jerry tells us.
But, Kate’s had such a rough go of it, with her ex, Jon Gosselin, and has been pretty down on herself about the dating game.
