Quotes

  • Kate Beckett : [entering basement with Castle and sees two Chinese men]  NYPD! Stay where you are.

[Men stop/drop what they're doing and put hands in air]

Richard Castle : That's a vacuum packer at one o'clock.

Kate Beckett : Looks like we've found our murder weapon.

[Opens a velcro pocket on bullet-proof vest, removes a picture and asks men]

Kate Beckett : Have you seen this man?

[the two men look at her dumbly]

Richard Castle : [in Chinese]  My partner is crazy and may start firing at any moment.

[the two men point their thumbs over their shoulders]

Kate Beckett : [to the men]  Go! Go!

    [to Castle]

    Kate Beckett : Semester abroad?

Richard Castle : Nah, TV show I used to love.

Kate Beckett : Ehn, nice job.

    Richard Castle : Thanks.

  • Kate Beckett : [after speaking to Agent Westfield privately]  He told me something in confidence.

    Richard Castle : What?

Kate Beckett : Well, I wish I could tell you, Castle. But it was... classified.

Richard Castle : What-what did he tell you that was classified? Was it about aliens? The truth about UFOs? Are you gonna tell me or just gonna make me keep guessing?

Kate Beckett : I don't know. This guessing thing is kind of fun.

Richard Castle : All right. Was it about what happened at Roswell?

    Kate Beckett : No.

    Richard Castle : Area 51?

    Kate Beckett : No.

Richard Castle : Loch Ness Monster is real?

    Kate Beckett : Yeah.

    Richard Castle : Really?

    Kate Beckett : No.

Richard Castle : [groan]  Oh, you had me.

  • Richard Castle : Marie Subbarao, a sober minded scientist, believes she was abducted by aliens after intercepting strange radio signals. Using a telescope, she photographs the source of the signal. The next day, dies mysteriously. Then her office is raided by shadowy government agents. I'm not asking you to die your hair red and call me Mulder. I would simply ask that you consider the possibility that Marie had knowledge of, or made contact with, something up there that somehow led to her death.

Kate Beckett : We will continue our investigation and solve this case and it will have nothing to do with little green men

Richard Castle : They're grey, actually.

  • Richard Castle : [Beckett is about to play a DVD that could crack the case wide open. Castle grabs the disk]  Wait. That's it? No pomp, no circumstance? What's on this could shake the very foundations of our existence. We need to pause and savor...

Kate Beckett : [Beckett grabs the disk]  Please, let's just stick it in and get this over with.

  • Richard Castle : Where are the predator drones? The black helicopters? All those SWAT teams repelling down on ropes?

    Agent Westfield : Budget cuts

  • Kate Beckett : So, it's meet the parents time, huh, Castle? This is a pretty critical moment for you.

Richard Castle : Me? Why me?

Kate Beckett : Well, I mean Ashley is Alexis' first love, right?

    Richard Castle : Mm-hmm.

Kate Beckett : What do you think'll happen if you don't get on with his parents?

Richard Castle : [hopefully]  She'll lose interest in him?

Kate Beckett : Oh, no. The exact opposite. I mean, it'll make their romance feel forbidden, and they'll be off doing... god knows what. Trust me. I know.

Richard Castle : I never thought of it that way.

Kate Beckett : My advice is keep the boyfriend close, but the parents closer.

  • Kate Beckett : We have an Earthbound solution to this mystery, and you are disappointed. I get it. But... that? Really?

Richard Castle : Come on, Marie said she had a life changing event. What could be more life changing than being beamed up by this guy?

[showing Beckett the victim's book about alien abductions, with a picture of an alien on the cover]

Kate Beckett : Come on, Castle, we all know that there's no such thing as alien abductions.

Richard Castle : And yet most abductees report he same experience: the white light, the memory flashes.

Kate Beckett : That's because they all read the same books, so of course they describe the same event. The dark, lonely road, the bright light out of nowhere, memories of being poked and prodded.

Richard Castle : I believe the word you're looking for is "probed". And then, of course, there's the alien implant that's used to track the abductees.

Kate Beckett : [looking at a picture in the book Castle hands her]  That reminds me of the LEGO I got stuck up my nose when I was six.

    Richard Castle : You what?

  • Richard Castle : So, where do we stand on this mysterious implant?

Kate Beckett : It is not an implant. Lanie says that it's a metal fragment. She's running tests on it right now.

Richard Castle : How'd it get up her nose?

Kate Beckett : Well, maybe it was a piece of the altitude chamber that got lodged up there.

Richard Castle : The altitude chamber we haven't found.

Kate Beckett : Yet. The altitude chamber that we haven't found yet. And I'm sure that as soon as we do, it will lead us straight to our killer.

Richard Castle : I noticed you said "killer", and not "Ted Carter".

Kate Beckett : Yeah, Carter alibied out. He ordered pizza the night of Marie's murder and signed for it at 8:25.

Richard Castle : Alibis in thirty minutes or less.

  • Alexis Castle : [Ashley's parents want to meet Castle and Martha]  The two of them are serious people, dad. You may need to be more... buttoned up.

Richard Castle : I can be buttoned up. And if I become unbuttoned, you can discretely let me know with a brutal kick to the shin.

  • Kate Beckett : Those men knew who killed Marie and they refused to tell us.

Richard Castle : They also refused to confirm that J Edgar Hoover liked to wear dresses.

  • Alexis Castle : [ending a phone call with Ashley]  Sorry, we were talking about the hiking trip next Saturday.

Richard Castle : Oh, has Ashley got the all-clear from his parents to come with us?

Alexis Castle : They say they want to meet you first.

Richard Castle : Ah, they want to vet me. To make sure, if there's some kind of rock slide, that I won't leave their boy stranded on a mountainside, having to gnaw off his own arm to survive.

Alexis Castle : So you'll do it?

Richard Castle : We'll have them over for dinner. We'll schmooze and impress them.

Martha Rodgers : Would you like me to cook something?

Richard Castle : No, we want to impress them.

Martha Rodgers : And what is that supposed to mean?

  • Richard Castle : [bringing Beckett coffee]  Where do you come down on deficit spending during economic downturn?

Kate Beckett : Thank you. I take the theory that's held by most economists: that deficit spending is acceptable as long as it focuses on public investments like infrastructure, defense, education, research.

Richard Castle : Wow. Where did that answer come from?

Kate Beckett : Semester of economic theory at NYU. Where did that question come from?

Richard Castle : Trying out conversation starters.

Kate Beckett : Well, we started a conversation, so I guess it worked. Kind of.

Richard Castle : It's for a dinner with Ashley's parents. He's this stuffy economist, you know, and I just want to win him over; get them on my side. But what if they don't take to me?

Kate Beckett : Oh, come on, Castle, they'll take to you.

    Richard Castle : Really?

    Kate Beckett : Yeah.

    Richard Castle : Thanks.

Kate Beckett : So long as you don't act like yourself.

Richard Castle : [groan]  Ohh, nice one.
