Robots and babysitting
'Phineas and Ferb' was so good in helping me through my tough periods during its run, which were many. Still do get a lot of pleasure out of watching re-runs of what was, when airing, one of the few shows on the Disney Channel regularly worth bothering with. Admittedly the later episodes are not quite on the same level as the more creative earlier seasons, but 'Phineas and Ferb' at its weakest still managed generally to be better than a lot of animated shows recently at their best.
Neither "I Was a Middle Aged Robot" or "Suddenly Suzy" are flawless episodes or among the best of 'Phineas and Ferb'. Both however are very well done, with "I Was a Middle Aged Robot" being funnier, more inventive and more consistent (it's not the first episode to feature any kind of robot but is for this type). Was disappointed in one of the subplots in "Suddenly Suzy", but loved the main character dynamic which is what primarily kept that episode afloat.
There are plenty of great things that both have in common. The animation is bright and colourful, with such vibrant colours that literally pop out at you and beautifully detailed backgrounds. The music is in the style that is not usually my style of choice when listening to music, but it is very catchy and pleasant to listen to. The theme song is irresistible with a melody that sticks in the head for days without being an earworm and with very quotable lyrics.
Writing is mostly very good, it is smart and witty in particularly "I Was a Middle Aged Robot" and never gets too childish or too complicated. "Suddenly Suzy" is not as imaginative or as funny but is not near as corny as it could have been, with the refreshingly different dynamic between Candace and Suzy being the main interest point.
Both stories are executed well with a lively pace, especially the main plot of "I Was a Middle Aged Robot". With the only disappointment story-wise being the uninspired and slightly rushed Doofenschmirtz subplot in "Suddenly Suzy". The character writing and interaction are very strong, especially that between Candace and Suzy and Lawrence shines the most he had done in a while. The voice acting is without issues.
In conclusion, very good. 8/10.
