Penn Badgley has come a long way since his early days on the CW’s hit teen drama, Gossip Girl, becoming a leading man for Netflix’s ultra-popular You. But as he grows as an actor, it seems his tastes have shifted. In a recent interview, Badgley shared that he doesn’t think he’ll ever make one kind of movie again.

Although not as frequently as the Koreans, Japanese still manage to turn up a number of crime films, mostly based on the plethora of novels of the genre that are published in the country, as much as on actual stories. The Yakuza theme, that was so common in Japanese cinema during the previous decades, is no longer at large and organized crime has given its place to the individual one; however, the quality has not deteriorated at the least, and as we are about to see in the list below, a number of masterpieces of the category are still being shot.
With a focus on diversity, here are 20 great Japanese films, in chronological order, where crime is the main element of the story.

We’ve just hit November, and that means a whole new month of material for Netflix subscribers. The platform is adding a lot of content for this period, including the latest instalment of The Crown, and several of its Christmas titles ahead of the festive season. Focusing on this week, though, what movies and series are Netflix putting out to keep us busy?
Well, first up on November 2nd is the 2018 science fiction film Prospect, which sees Pedro Pascal and Sophie Thatcher as a father and daughter team who travel to a moon to mine for rare gems, but soon encounter bigger problems. Prospect was the feature-length directorial debut of Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell, and enjoyed a limited release and some decent critical responses.

November is among the least respected months on the calendar. Falling between objectively the two best holidays, November is usually all about recovering from the spookies of Halloween while getting ready for the good vibes the holiday season. For its new releases of November 2020, Netflix has decided to just go ahead and get Christmas over with.
Netflix has already released a list of all its holiday offerings for November and December, and it’s those holiday offerings that take the most prominence this month. The biggest project of all of these is undoubtedly The Christmas Chronicles 2, which premieres on Nov. 25. In this holiday sequel, Kurt Russell reprises his role as Hot Santa Claus who must save the season once again.
On the non-holiday side of things, Netflix’s Emmy-winning series The Crown returns for season 4 on Nov. 15. And speaking of things that desperately want to win awards, Ron Howard...

Though we’re now beginning to see life starting to return to at least some sense of normality, a lot of people are still spending much more time at home than usual thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, and that probably won’t change for a while yet. As such, streaming services are more popular than ever now and thankfully, all of the major players have been delivering the goods when it comes to adding new content.
Of course, Netflix are still the leaders and each and every month they bring us a healthy helping of fresh material that ensures subscribers are kept entertained at all times. Admittedly, the summer was more fruitful in terms of new releases, but there are still a lot of great titles coming down the pipeline as we head into the fall and today, the streaming giant have revealed their November lineup, which you can check out below.

“Blade Runner 2049” actress Ana de Armas has been cast to star in Kevin Pollak’s contemporary noir thriller “Waiting for Helen.”

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Another bad weekend where nothing really popped, which is bad news for a month at the box office where only Clint Eastwood’s Sully exceeded any expectations. Tim Burton’s new film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children came out just below my predictions with $29 million, but the Mark Wahlberg-Peter Berg disaster flick Deepwater Horizon was right around where I predicted with $20.2 million. The comedy Masterminds tanked with just $6.5 million for the weekend to end up in sixth place while Disney’s The Queen of Katwe did slightly better than predicted with $2.5 million.

Baker experienced late-onset puberty at age 28, undergoing rapid teenage hormonal changes well into his adult years.

Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes, and clips and puts it all in perspective. Let me tell you something, one of my jobs here at Hitfix is (was) to watch trailers. I've seen a bunch of comedy trailers the last couple of months. They all have Kumail Nanjiani in them. I'm serious. All of them. Fist Fight. Brother Nature. The Late Bloomer. Flock of Dudes. The Dude-Bro Crusade. I made up that last one. I love Kumail. He's the master of deadpan as Dinesh in the great Silicon Valley HBO series and all around funny person. He kills it in just about everything he's in. He's often on the podcast Harmontown (featuring Community auteur Dan Harmon), he's got an active Twitter account, he's in that Nerdist scene with Chris Hardwick. It's time just to give him his own movie. He's like Nikki Minaj.

Welcome to October! We’re in the fourth quarter of the year now, which is crazy to think about. It’s the point in the year where fall festival season dovetails into awards season, with the precursors on there way before long. As such, the throng of Oscar hopefuls is coming next month, though there are still some October releases that are definitely vying for the Academy to notice them. I’ve collected the top releases for this month and shared them with you below, so check them out and stay tuned for more on many of these. Especially in one or two cases, this is just the beginning… Here now are the best cinematic bets for October: 10. The Late Bloomer – Kevin Pollack makes his directorial debut with a really high concept comedy. I have a link but haven’t watched it yet, though I’ve been curious about it for a very long time.

Puberty is hard enough—but imagine going through it when you're an adult. In The Late Bloomer, the upcoming movie adaptation of E! Back in 2012, Elijah Wood was all set to star in indie comedy drama The Late Bloomer for director Randall Einhorn. But, as they are so often wont to do, the film didn’t quite come together. Comedian Kevin Pollack has pulled off the trick, securing J.K. Simmons, Johnny Simmons, Brittany Snow and Jane Lynch to head the cast. They’re part of an ensemble that also includes Maria Bello, Kumail Nanjiani, Beck Bennett, Paul Wesley, Ken Marino, Ileana Douglas, Charlotte McKinney, Vanessa Ragland, Blake Cooper and Leonora Crichlow, in the story adapted from Ken Baker’s 2001 book Man Made: A Memoir Of My Body. It follows what happened when the E! News correspondent had a tumour removed from against his pituitary gland. The condition had been keeping him from properly going through puberty and its removal meant he experienced a sudden onset of changes at the age of 30 in the space of about three weeks.

Here's a few pieces of casting news that have popped up that I thought some of you might want to know about!
Hellboy star Ron Perlman has joined an action crime thriller called Savage Mutts. He will play a character named Terry “Shotgun” Coburn, "who after he is released from maximum security prison sets out on a path of revenge and rampage through the criminal underworld, as he seeks out a final confrontation with his brother - a dark and powerful crime boss." The project has been described as being in the same vein of Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. I don't know about you but I'm up for seeing Perlman kick some ass! The film was written and directed by Nika Agiashvili.
Spider-Man 3 co-star Topher Grace has joined Chris Evans and Michelle Monaghan in a love story called A Many Splintered Thing. The film...

The Late Bloomer which is dubbed as an indie comedy sees the star in the title role. The project is currently being written by Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove the latest draft of the script drafted originated from Mark Nussbaum which in turn was an adaptation of Ken Baker’s 2001 book Man Made: A Memoir Of My Body (still with me?) Though he'll be making a quick trip back to Middle Earth reprising his role of Frodo Baggins in a cameo in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy, Elijah Wood has mostly shed his on-screen hobbit persona and has moved on to other projects. He's starring in the FX comedy series "Wilfred," plays a psycho killer in the remake of Maniac, and now has taken the lead role in a comedy called The Late Bloomer based on an amazing true story. He's also been busy on the business side of things, as Deadline reports the actor has formed a new production company called The Woodshed focusing on indie horror and genre films. Cool! Written by Joe Nussbaum and Paul Kaplan & Mark Torgove, The Late Bloomer is a true story based on Ken Baker's memoir about a man who is almost thirty years old when he realizes that he has a...

It's said, possibly apocryphally (which is a fancy way of saying that it's a clever lie about the past), that when William Gibson saw Blade Runner in the theater, he left halfway through and had a nervous breakdown in the street because the images he saw on the screen were the same as the ones he was seeing in his head while writing the half-finished Neuromancer. Somehow I doubt that he'd have the same reaction to whatever comes out the recent rumors of a remake/reboot/TV series/game show/tentacle fest that is currently in the works for Blade Runner.

First, the one-time cinematographer who switched to directing episodic TV a couple of years ago, landed his first feature directing job on the Alcon/Warner Bros. Late Bloomer. Now he has been tapped to helm his first pilot, FX's Wilfred. Here's how David Zuckerman, who wrote the U.S. adaptation, describes the project: “Wilfred is about a guy, the girl next door, and mixed-breed dog, Wilfred, [...]...
