First James Bond film to feature a major leading Bond Girl from Cuba with the casting of Cuban born actress Ana de Armas who plays Paloma.
Cuban actress Ana de Armas recently appeared in the Beatles tribute movie 'Yesterday' (2019), directed by Danny Boyle, who was for a long time going to be the director of 'No Time to Die' (2021), then known as 'Bond 25', before Boyle departed the production due to creative differences. James Bond star Daniel Craig previously worked with Boyle on the 2012 London Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony [See: 'London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony: Isles of Wonder' (2012) (TV)].
Ana de Armas's character in 'No Time to Die' (2021) is named Paloma which is the Spanish word for "Dove". A character in the earlier James Bond movie 'For Your Eyes Only' (1981) was nick-named ''The Dove''. The James Bond film 'No Time to Die' premieres in the year 2021 which is the 40th Anniversary of the James Bond movie 'For Your Eyes Only' (1981).
'No Time to Die' (2021) is the first James Bond film to feature Cuba as a setting since 'Die Another Day' (2002) which is an interval of about eighteen years. However, the picture will not do any filming in Cuba, with Jamaica and Pinewood studios doubling for the small nation. For the earlier 'Die Another Day' (2002), the production went to Cuba to source locations, but they were unable to shoot there, due to American legislation of the USA, so Cuba was re-created in a combination of Pinewood Studios outside of London, England, and at Cadiz in Andalucía, Spain. 'No Time to Die' (2020) features the first ever lead/major Cuban Bond Girl, Paloma, portrayed by Cuban born actress Ana de Armas. An earlier James Bond movie 'Goldeneye' (1995) was also partially set in Cuba, with the Goldeneye Satellite Dish set there, but this was actually portrayed by the Arecibo Observatory, which is located in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. The official live reveal launch of 'No Time to Die' (2020) was held at the Goldeneye Estate in Jamaica.
