- Millions of people suffer from Lyme disease, a debilitating and often isolating illness that can go undiagnosed for years. I'm Not Crazy, I'm Sick shines a light on the lives of three families and a WNBA MVP who are fighting for survival.
- Lyme disease is the fastest growing infectious disease in the US, wreaking havoc on millions of lives. There are over 476,000 new cases each year, yet many medical professionals often dismiss or overlook this debilitating disease. Lyme patients often feel lonely and isolated in their journey, with many not receiving the proper support they need.
I'm Not Crazy, I'm Sick chronicles the daily lives of three families and a WNBA MVP, in their fight for survival against Lyme disease: The Mode Family - Cody, Lea, and their 5 kids in Northern Maine - survives on $150 month and has extremely limited access to treatment. Ash Baker, an artist in Maryland, has an excellent doctor who has helped her get treatment covered by insurance. The Cleworth Family - Kim, Peter, Atty, Charlie, and Henry - have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on Atty's treatment and have access to the world's best doctors and care. WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne has been battling the effects of Lyme on her body her entire career. In 2020, Elena was not given a medical exemption from the WNBA for the "Bubble" system during COVID, making her fight not only against Lyme, but a fight to be believed.
The film highlights the physical, emotional, and financial struggles that the disease takes on their lives, as well as the urgent need for greater awareness, more reliable testing methods, and more easily accessible treatment options. Expert doctors, researchers, and advocates also provide valuable insights into the science and politics surrounding the disease.
Through these unique and inspiring stories, I'm Not Crazy, I'm Sick serves as a call to action, to understand and support the millions of people worldwide who are living with this devastating illness.
It is produced by Sypher Studios and Fieldhouse Productions. It was shot by Emmy award-winning cinematographer Clair Popkin (Free Solo) and directed by Elle Brooks-Tao.
