A touching short film with a strong message.

A really great little short film. It's about Jeremy, a black high school student who has a good heart and strong morals. However when dealing with Brandon Waters, a pompous jock, Jeremy always lets his emotions get the best of him and turns to fighting and returning trash-talk. Ultimately, it's when Jeremy's grandfather explains to Jeremy through his past experiences that violence really isn't the answer.

Having seen this film a few times now, I must say that I hope this film starts getting more play at various festivals. The film has strong messages about using reasoning to confront problems such as racism and mistreatment towards women. And I'd say the film never feels too preachy in dealing with these issues.

The film was shot on a very low budget, and it shows at times. However, the story is very solid, as the main characters are nicely written. So yeah, overall, I highly recommend "Pier 41".
