Meaningless Affect: Marucci’s Interactive Film Project a Dreadful Observation of Social Awareness
Moments into Leone Marucci’s incomprehensibly obnoxious new film, The Power of Few should have one pondering not only how some of the notable cast members signed onto the film but how this received funding in the first place. Assaulting the senses like a New Orleans set Crash (2005) meeting indefinably interconnected drek of something like Answers to Nothing (2011), this amateur circus of poorly conceived nonsense may have been borne out of good intentions, but only serves to reinforce the notion of what path they pave. Developed by writer/director Marucci and producer/star Q’orianka Kilcher as an interactive project meant to involve a global audience, where online voters were able to determine casting, costumes, location, editing, and story development, results in what feels like the product of Communism on filmmaking. “God save us from the innocent and the good,...

Elizabeth Mitchell is the sort of actress whose statuesque beauty (she’s 5’9″) has allowed her to be cast both by and against type. She made out with Angelina Jolie in the HBO movie “Gia,” made a much more unsettling impression in Wayne Kramer’s creepy “Running Scared,” and then enjoyed a healthy run as Juliet Burke on the small screen smash hit “Lost.” She’s now moved on to “V,” and is also part of the ensemble cast of writer-director Matthew Leutwyler’s “Answers To Nothing,” in which she plays a woman trying to get pregnant with a husband (Dane Cook) that she doesn’t know is cheating on her. ShockYa recently had a chance...

Title: Answers to Nothing Directed by: Matthew Leutwyler Starring: Dane Cook, Elizabeth Mitchell and Julie Benz Answers to Nothing wants to be a lot, but it falters in a big way. First, it seems like Crash-lite–which is the biggest problem. Second, it’s an ensemble piece. Ensemble pieces are hard enough to create, and here we have a director working with amateurish storytelling and directing. It might sound harsh, but sadly, it’s true. Writer/ director Matthew Leutwyler wanted to infuse the film with feelings of redemption and guilt, and it ultimately comes off as contrived. All of that together is the recipe for a poor movie — and an even worse...

Title: Answers To Nothing Director: Matthew Leutwyler Starring: Dane Cook, Julie Benz, Elizabeth Mitchell, Barbara Hershey, Zach Gilford, Erik Palladino, Kali Hawk, Aja Volkman, Greg Germann, Miranda Bailey, Mark Kelly “Answers To Nothing” is an unfortunately all-too-apt title for director Matthew Leutwyler’s sprawling thematic think piece, which focuses on the hard knocks and self-deception of a disparate group of Los Angelenos. The filmmakers seem to be reaching rather nakedly for early Paul Thomas Anderson territory here, but the copped moves come off less as artful homage and more as the nervous half-formed duplications of a mentee who’s left the nest too soon. While Ryan (Dane Cook) and Kate (Elizabeth Mitchell) try to conceive...

Julie Benz has been dead for a couple years now – well, to a lot of people who follow “Dexter” religiously. Thankfully, in real life, the 39-year-old actress has kept busy even after her shocking fourth-season offing from the hit Showtime series, popping up in roles on “Desperate Housewives” and “No Ordinary Family,” amongst other projects. In writer-director Matthew Leutwyler’s new film, “Answers To Nothing,” she plays Frankie, a hard-charging Los Angeles police investigator working to solve a case involving a missing little girl. ShockYa recently had a chance to sit down and talk to Benz one-on-one, about “Answers To Nothing” and the extremely short preparation time she had for the project...

So much happens in Matthew Leutwyler’s Answers to Nothing, but how much is actually relevant? An adulterous husband with a rockstar mistress and lawyer wife, a police detective best friend and her key suspect in a child kidnapping case, a recently graduated police officer and his grade school teacher neighbor, a racist black television writer and the soundboard mixer she meets while walking their dogs, and a recovering alcoholic caring for her brain dead brother all cross paths in Los Angeles. Southern California hides their secrets and opens them up to the tragedy of life and the mistakes made every second of every day. They try so hard to ignore the people around them, but what’s the point of living in a community if society refuses to watch out for each other?
This appears to be the main question Leutwyler and co-writer Gillian Vigman asks. Through the transgressions...

Answers To Nothing Review
Many people reach a point in their lives when they begin examining the things they have done, and questioning if their actions were right or wrong. When they reach this ethical crossroads, they realize they have conflicting personality traits that are leading them in different directions. Writer-director Matthew Leutwyler effectively interwove the complex personality traits he embodied when he was going through his divorce into the intricate narrative of his new drama, Answers to Nothing. His interesting film brings together a group of confused and emotionally tortured people, who are striving to find something to make their lives more meaningful.

The weekend after Thanksgiving is a notoriously slow one: in 2008 and 2010, for example, the weekend was the second-lowest grossing one in the entire year. With no new nationwide release, this weekend seems poised for a similar fate. Last weekend's Top Four movies are all holding at about the same theater count levels, and should all experience fairly steep declines. Two unique situations do exist, though, as both Hugo and The Descendants are expanding significantly. Hugo is moving in to 1,840 theaters (up from 1,277 last weekend), while The Descendants is expanding to a nearly-wide release (the official figure is not currently available). Still, this weekend's winner will come down to a battle between The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and The Muppets, with the vampire drama likely eking out a victory. While there aren't any new nationwide movies, there are a handful of limited releases including Mexican comedy Pastorela (55 theaters), Bollywood action...

As with Robin Williams, the very characteristics that make Dane Cook borderline-insufferable as a comic performer and stand-up comedian can render him surprisingly compelling as a dramatic actor. Mr. Brooks twisted Cook’s amped-up alpha-male aggression to appealingly warped ends, while Dan In Real Life smartly cast him as a shallow, appealing, but fundamentally empty man bumping up hard against the limits of his own facile charm. Cook delivers his most dramatic performance to date in Answers To Nothing (a title that should scare off most of its potential audience), but writer-director Matthew Leutwyler doesn’t play to Cook’s ...

After watching an online screening on Livestream.com of Dane Cook starrer Answers to Nothing, a Q&A session took place with the star of the drama. It's not the Dane Cook you're used to - a heavy film, playing a man who struggles with his own infidelity. Set against the backdrop of a missing girl case, the film tells interweaving stories of several folks in Los Angeles, from different backgrounds and careers, all trying to do what they believe is the right thing. Answers to Nothing offers one emotions of redemption, love, chance and inner peace, and, although certainly not to everyone's taste, Matthew Leutwyler's film is one worthy of viewing. The solid cast includes Elizabeth Mitchell, Julie Benz, Barbara Hershey, Kali Hawk and Aja Volkman, all of which offer strong performances. The most notable performance I believe comes from Miranda Bailey; an actress and producer I honestly hadn't heard of,...

Dane Cook is proving that he's good for more than just a couple of laughs.
Coming off the heels of the announcement that the comic will be getting his own NBC show, now he is getting in touch with his serious side in the drama, "Answers to Nothing."
The story explores the dysfunction of a group of people who are all connected through a kidnapping. It's kind of like "Paris, Je T'aime" but way more bleak.
Directed by Matthew Leutwyler, Cook stars alongside Julie Benz, Zach Gilford and Elizabeth Mitchell.
Check out the new trailer below and tell us if you think the funny-guy can pull off his new serious role.

Why do all comedians want to be dramatic actors? Does drama pay better than comedy? Is getting an Oscar that insanely awesome? Does working the comedy club circuit make you so dead inside that you become incapable of feeling or even portraying human joy? Whatever the reason, Dane Cook has been far too successful a comedian not to try his hand at dramatic acting. And here comes that try: "Answers to Nothing" from "Dead and Breakfast" director Matthew Leutwyler. The trailer:
I know the title and all, but I hope the movie has answers to something, because the trailer left me with a lot of questions, namely what exactly this movie is about besides Cook's crossover to quote-unquote "real" acting, which actually looks promising. [1] There comes a moment in many a comedy star's life when he decides it's time to try his luck with dramatic acting. Apparently, that point is now for comedian/actor Dane Cook. Though he's made his name with mediocre comedies like Good Luck Chuck and Employee of the Month, Cook took on a more dramatic part in 2007's Dan in Real Life, and now he's doing his darkest turn yet inAnswers to Nothing. Directed by Matthew Leutwyler, the drama follows a several "lost souls" in L.A. who are connected by a missing girl case. Cook plays one of those lonely people, a cheating husband to Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell and a frustrated son to Barbara Hershey. Julie Benz, Zach Gilford, and Eric Palladino also star. Watch the trailer after the jump. [via Moviefone [2]] The plot appears to center around a kidnapping case being investigated by Benz's character, who in turn is buddies with Mitchell's.

Roadside Attractions have released the first poster and trailer for director Matt Luetwyler’s Answers to Nothing, which includes amongst its ensemble cast one Mr. Dane Cook – the Us comedian whose comedy and whose films have divided audiences everywhere. Dane Cook In Answers To Nothing Trailer
Comedian Dane Cook looks to be returning to the drama genre in Matthew Leutwyler's latest film Answers to Nothing. The Film Stage has the first trailer for the film and it sort of feels like a bland drama that tries intertwining several stories to confuse the viewer and possibly cover up the poor acting or lack of direction. Dane Cook doesn't fit the role at all; he honestly doesn't fit any roles in the drama genre.

Roadside Attractions has just released the theatrical trailer for Answers to Nothing, which was directed by Matt Luetwyler. The cast includes Dane Cook, Elizabeth Mitchell, Julie Benz, Erik Palladino and Kali Hawk. I dig what they are trying to do in the film with the intersecting stories, but I can't help but think I have seen this before with a movie called Crash?
Synopsis:
Against the backdrop of a missing girl case, lost souls throughout Los Angeles search for meaning and redemption and affect each other in ways they don't always see.

There Are No Easy Answers... Roadside Attractions has released an official trailer for the ensemble indie drama Answers to Nothing, written and directed by Matthew Leutwyler, on Yahoo today. The film stars quite an eclectic ensemble cast, including namely Dane Cook, Julie Benz, Elizabeth Mitchell, Barbara Hershey, Zach Gilford, Erik Palladino and Kali Hawk, in a Los Angeles-set drama about "lost souls" and their connection and lives and whatnot. There's also some sex and romance spliced in here to actually get audiences interested. Otherwise, this looks like some overindulgent drama to me. Give it a shot anyway. After a genuinely funny performance in Waiting…, mega-comedian Dane Cook balanced surprising dramatic turns in Mr. Brooks and Dan in Real Life while taking the rom-com route to no luck in My Best Friend’s Girl and Good Luck Chuck. After taking a few years off from acting, he is returning to drama with Answers to Nothing. We also praised his performance in Detention at SXSW, but that one hasn’t nailed down a release date yet, so we’ll focus on this one. Nothing is written and directed by Matthew Leutwyler and will see a release this December.
If this trailer is any indication, the results don’t seem promising. The story looks generic and the forced title cards vying for inspiration offer no help. The “intertwining stories” and the poster make this seem like a poor man’s Crash, and that is saying a lot. If you want...

Zach Gilford is used to being under the spotlight as the Qb from Fiday Night Lights, but now he has moved to a bigger playing field. Deadline reports that Gilford will star opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Stand for director Kim Jee-woon. He will play "the young small-town cop who works for Schwarzenegger’s sheriff character. They are all that stands between a drug cartel and the Mexican border after the kingpin escapes from a U.S. prison and races home."
The film is about to start in Albuquerque. Gilford last starred in the indie drama In Our Nature and is shooting Long Time Gone.He will next be seen in the Matthew Leutwyler-directed Answers To Nothing, alongside Dane Cook, Julie Benz and Barbara Hershey.
This movie sounds great, I can't wait to see Arnie back in action. What are your thoughts on this casting news?

Yay! Zach Gilford, who played the complicated nice guy and Julie Taylor-lover Matt Saracen on the dearly beloved Friday Night Lights, is coming to the big screen in something other than a silly teen flick! Admittedly, it does sound kind of silly, but at least in a fun action-y way.

Gilford's also gonna appear in the drama Answers To Nothing
Gilford's just joined The Last Stand to star opposite scorned action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger, clearly trying to stage a comeback after Housekeepergate. He's set to play a small-town cop serving under Schwarzenegger's sherriff, who both have to stop a drug kingpin (how awesome would it be if it were Walter White?) from crossing the Mexican border after escaping from U.S. prison. Shooting just started in Albuquerque.
You think The Last Stand might be the next Terminator franchise?

Remember when you were a sophomore in high school and you and all of your friends would listen to Dane Cook's "Vicious Cycle" comedy CD in your car? Well, that guy's grooming to be the next Kenneth Branagh. Go figure. Even after his terrible turn in Mr. Brooks.
Answers To Nothing sounds a bit like a Crash-like interweaving of Los Angelean adult lives. However, unlike Crash, the upcoming thriller/drama surrounds the kidnapping of a child, and it also stars Dane Cook. Are we trying to make Dane Cook happen for serious?

Fans of Elizabeth Mitchell can rejoice in knowing that one of our favorite ladies is return to weekly television as her sci-fi series, V, is set to launch into Season 2 on January 4, on ABC.
While Mitchell's character, Erica, had a hell of a first season trying to save her teenage son, fight off alien invaders and, in the process, save the world, Mitchell told AfterEllen.com last week that we haven't seen anything yet. Has the show changed at all from Season 1 to 2? How is Mitchell coping with the stunts and action, week after week? And who on the show is suggesting that Erica and the evil alien leader Anna (Morena Baccarin) lock lips? Read on and find out.
AfterEllen.com: Talk to me about the journey from Season 1 to 2. Has there been some fine-tuning?

Here’s a name that I don’t believe has ever come up when we’ve discussed potential up-and-comers, but maybe should: Kali Hawk, whom we last saw (or rather barely saw) in last year’s Couples Retreat, has joined the cast of a thriller called Answers to Nothing. Remember the Couples Retreat poster fiasco?
In Answers To Nothing, she’ll play opposite Dane Cook and Barbara Hershey. The thriller is being helmed by Matthew Leutwyler.
What’s it about? Against the backdrop of a missing girl case, lost souls throughout Los Angeles search for meaning and redemption and affect each other in ways they don’t always see. Sounds like one of those ensemble, multi-story dramas.
Hawk can be seen next in the laffer Get Him to the Greek with Jonah Hill and Russell Brand.
