The Jesus Lizard have announced their first album in 26 years, along with a run of 2024-2025 tour dates. The influential noise-rock act will unleash Rack on September 13th via Ipecac Recordings, and has unveiled the first single, “Hide & Seek.”
The band still features classic members David Yow (vocals), Duane Denison (guitar), David Wm. Sims (bass), and Mac McNeilly (drums). The new LP will be their seventh overall, and first since 1998’s Blue. The title Rack continues the band’s tradition of naming their albums with single words of four letters.

Deadpool & Wolverine: The Merc With A Mouth Hijacks What If...? - An Immersive Story In Fun New Clip
Marvel Studios and Ilm Immersive's What If...? - An Immersive Story is now available for Apple Vision Pro, and one fan was in for a pleasant(?) surprise during a play through of the "hour-long mixed reality experience."
After entering the Tva, Miss Minutes introduces the player to their new co-worker: The Merc with A Mouth!
The screen then shows a moment from the first Deadpool and Wolverine trailer, with Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson dancing out of the elevator. This clip goes on a little longer, however, with Deadpool posing suggestively and reeling off some flirty dialogue.
While there's always a chance Reynolds recorded new dialogue, this is more likely a fourth wall-break from the movie, with the visual looped for the purposes of the game.
Check out the clip below, and let us know if you plan on giving What If..? - An Immersive Story a go in the comments.

“It was, by every objective measure, one of the most devastating days of my life,” Dallas Jenkins recalls.
The Midwest-born director and son of a best-selling author of Christian novels had for years struggled to build a Hollywood career and had finally landed his big break: directing a movie for Get Out producer Jason Blum, who shared Jenkins’ belief that there was an untapped market for elevated religious fare. Their film — 2017’s rom-com The Resurrection of Gavin Stone — scored “insanely” well at a test screening and their hopes were high.
Then came opening weekend.
“I was at home with my wife and shell-shocked,” Jenkins recalls. Gavin Stone ranked 18th at the box office and opened to just $1.2 million. “I mean, we were crying. I thought this was my chance. I had finally got in the door. I was working with one of the most prolific and influential producers in Hollywood,...

When Marvel announced the return of the X-Men ’97 animated series, almost every single fan was skeptical about its success. The MCU had recently seen a slew of flops, and the 90s fans who grew up with the series were worried that their fond memories would be tainted by “wokeness” as well, but Beau DeMayo’s series proved everyone wrong.

And it seems like Marvel is trying to ride the high tide generated by the fan-favorite mutant mayhem, as the studio is once again betting its money on animation. This time, their focus is on the third season of What If…?, which has been quite popular in its own right.

Marvel Studios first unveiled its "Marvel Animation" label in 2021 with What If...? Now, the likes of Eyes of Wakdanda, Marvel Zombies, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man are heading our way in the not-too-distant future.
X-Men '97 also just wrapped up its first season and, while that's expected to run for multiple seasons, what's the deal with What If...? and its place in the Multiverse Saga?
As we first reported on Toonado.com, ComicBook.com caught up with executive producer and Marvel Studios Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation Brad Winderbaum and learned that season 3 (which is expected to launch either later this year or early 2025) will likely be its last.
"What If...? season 3 is - that might be the one that comes out next, in terms of animation," he started. "That is the culmination of a trilogy. We're actually close to completing that one, and it really feels like you've gone...

Marvel Television was originally a separate entity from Marvel Studios, spearheaded by Jeph Loeb under the watchful eye of former Marvel Entertainment Chairman Isaac Perlmutter.
Before being shut down in 2019 (when Disney handed full control of all things Marvel to Kevin Feige), Marvel Television produced the likes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Netflix's Defenders slate, and even the likes of Cloak & Dagger, The Runaways, and M.O.D.O.K.
The vast majority of characters were off-limits to Marvel Television, with Marvel Studios' desires prioritised by Disney. For Feige, Loeb's outfit was an annoyance, particularly as much of what they produced - Inhumans, for example - damaged the MCU brand.
Marvel Studios has since discovered that producing TV shows isn't as easy as it looks. Last year, the decision was made to creatively overhaul Daredevil: Born Again and the studio's small screen output as a whole, with "Head Writers" finally replaced with proper showrunners.

One of Marvel's most recent Disney+ shows was not allowed to feature Deadpool as a cameo, according to its showrunner.
This is not the first time Marvel prevented certain characters from appearing in certain projects for one reason or another. Often, it comes down to character ownership rights. But sometimes, it could be for another reason entirely.
Many heroes like the Fantastic Four were not allowed to appear in the first two seasons of What If...? because Marvel wanted to use them "first in live-action."

We still don't know why exactly Marvel Studios parted ways with X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo shortly before the series launched (and no one seems willing to explain).
Unsurprisingly, the writer has today confirmed that he's in the dark about Marvel's season 2 plans and where the series goes from there. However, DeMayo also told fans on X - via Toonado.com - that he originally had a five-season plan which seemingly included taking us to the "Age of Apocalypse."
Marvel Studios might be looking to stick with that, though if "creative differences" came into play, there are any number of directions X-Men '97 could head in after this first batch of episodes.
Thank you. I’d like you to discover the answer to this on your own. But I will also say I had a five season plan.

Along with the release of the full schedule, Marvel Studios and Disney+ confirmed that its next show will have a historic three-part finale.
After releasing multiple series on Disney+ (both in the live-action and animation realms) such as WandaVision, Loki, and What If...?, Marvel Studios is now well-versed in the art of episodic TV, and it has made it clear that they will continue to utilize it for future storytelling.
With the release of these shows also comes some record-breaking statistics. For example, Echo became the first Marvel Studios project to be rated TV-ma on Disney+, and the company's next show (which is just over the horizon) will break the record for most episodes in a Marvel Studios-produced series.

Just over a year ago, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was set to take Marvel Studios to the next level. A new villain was going to be introduced, setting the stage for several years’ worth of storytelling. And the movie itself was a giant-sizing of a franchise that was previously modest in scope. Instead, the Peyton Reed-directed movie heralded a year’s worth of missteps, box office blunders and PR nightmares. It was all uncharted territory for Marvel, which had steadily been generating box office gold for 15 years.

The premise of "Captain Marvel" was borne out of unique, if limiting, circumstances. The film was the 21st entry in Marvel's Cinematic Universe, and the first to put a female hero center stage. Perhaps more than any MCU film that'd preceded it, "Captain Marvel" had a complicated brief to adhere to. It was introducing one of the most prolific heroes in Marvel history at a veritable late point in the franchise, just before "Avengers: Endgame" brought about the end of the Infinity Saga. "Captain Marvel" also needed to establish the title heroine as someone with a history, all while avoiding a decades' worth of continuity concerns.

Marvel Comics has been publishing issues of their anthology series What If…? – which takes familiar scenarios from their comics and explores what might have happened if things had played out differently or if characters had taken different paths in life – since 1977. Now the series, which has included such titles as “What If Spider-Man Had Joined the Fantastic Four?”, “What If Thor of Asgard Had Met Conan the Barbarian?”, and “What If The Punisher’s Family Had Not Been Killed?”, is being infiltrated by the Alien franchise. Marvel gained the comic book rights to the Alien franchise when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox a few years back, and now they’re set to publish the five-issue limited series Aliens: What If…? that asks the question, “What if Carter Burke had lived?”
Paul Reiser played the slimy Carter Burke in writer/director James Cameron’s 1986 classic Aliens. Burke was a junior executive for the Weyland-Yutani Corporation,...

‘What If…?’ was a breath of fresh air in the MCU; despite the first season of the show receiving a somewhat mixed reception from fans, it was successful enough to warrant additional seasons and expand the multiverse that the creators have been working on drawing loose inspiration from several notable storylines.
Season 2 was released in a somewhat unconventional manner over the course of nine days; a single episode was released, like a gift for fans to unwrap over the holiday season. In December 2019, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced the development of a second season for the animated series “What If…?,” consisting of 10 episodes. Due to Covid-19-related production delays during the first season, both the first and second seasons ended up having nine episodes each.

Marvel's "What If..." has employed a mix of reprisals and recasts from the movies. Captain Peggy Carter may have the super soldier serum, and Strange Supreme went down a darker path, but they're still played by Hayley Atwell and Benedict Cumberbatch like the originals. Tragically, T'Challa-as-Star-Lord also went down as Chadwick Boseman's final performance.
On the other hand: Mick Wingert fills in for Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Lake Bell plays Black Widow instead of Scarlett Johansson, and season 1 big bad Infinity Ultron was voiced by Ross Marquand, not James Spader.
"What If..." season 2 brings in two characters not seen in season 1, Hela (the villain of "Thor: Ragnarok") and Wenwu (the villain of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings"), and pairs them up in episode 7: "What If... Hela Found the Ten Rings?" The episode splits the difference on recasting: Wenwu is voiced by Feodor Chin,...

All of the signaling around Echo has suggested yet another Marvel Cinematic Universe fiasco in a long line of them in the years since Avengers: Endgame. The miniseries, spinning off a supporting character from 2021’s Hawkeye, was originally set to premiere last November, then got pushed back to an early January window that’s rarely where networks or streamers put their best shows. It is the first binge release of any Marvel Studios-produced series, where Disney+ has previously done very well getting fans to come back week after week...

The second season of What If? has been dropped by Marvel Studios in a year that has seen both the rise and fall of the MCU. The final Guardians of the Galaxy and the second season of Loki were absolute triumphs, while the rest was pretty much a let down. I’m not even going to go into the Jonathan Major fiasco, but that must have hurt the MCU, and the future of this thing doesn’t look too bright. Considering all these, it was essential for Marvel to wrap up this year strong, and the good news is that What If? has been quite successful in doing that. With the anthology format, it was a given that some of the episodes would not be that good, while others might just be extraordinary. And that’s exactly how it went. We’re going to rank the new batch of episodes...

What If? Season 2, episode 9, wrapped up with a fierce battle between Captain Peggy Carter, our newly introduced Avenger, Kahhori, and the main antagonist of the multiverse war. This episode is once again a continuation of the previous episode, which ended with Peggy drinking at a bar while Dr. Strange Supreme approached her. Episode 9 opened with Peggy Carter conversing with Dr. Strange, who sought her help on something he was working on. To achieve that, Dr. Strange Supreme needed Carter to kill a villain from an alternate universe, so Peggy agreed to help him. Peggy demanded to portal back to her home universe in exchange for help, but after she accompanied Dr. Strange to his destination, she recognized who the real villain of this universe was.

What If? Season 2, episode 7, is all about Hela’s transformation of character. Hela was the firstborn of Odin and the mightiest warrior on Asgard. Together with her father, Hela conquered the nine realms, which further increased her greed for power. In this episode, we caught glimpses of some of the films, like Thor: Part 1, Thor: Ragnarok, and Shang Chi. Just like in Thor: Part 1, where Odin had sent Thor to Midgard, in this episode of What If? Hela was sent to Earth by Odin after her greed for violence and bloodshed escalated.

What If...? has introduced plenty of new versions of familiar characters, from Captain Carter to Star-Lord T'Challa.
But for Happy Hogan, What If...? brought to the screen one identity of his that has not been seen for many decades - The Freak.

Marvel's "What If...?" is creatively one of the best things to happen to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More than big crossover movie events, more than the many, many TV shows expanding the world through new kinds of characters, it's "What If...?" that really fulfills the potential of the MCU. "Star Wars" didn't become such a massive and beloved franchise with the movies or the shows alone. It did so with the expanded universe of books, games, and comics exploring smaller, weirder aspects of the galaxy. "What If...?" season 1 wasn't perfect, and it still adhered too close to the formula of the McU's films, but it showed promise in how it unleashed the imagination of what was possible in the MCU.
Now, season 2 will attempt to build on that by telling more stories that aren't simply pulled from the McU's films. Take the brief trailer shots of what looks like an...

A grieving kid with cosmic radiation flowing through his veins and an unhinged celestial being sounds like the kind of problem you’d call in the Avengers for. But the group that MCU’s gotten you familiar with—the ones who never retreat without ensuring the enemy has fallen—is sort of different here. The second episode of What If season 2 pulls an adolescent Peter Quill to safety before he’s fully corrupted by the extraterrestrial half of his lineage. You might want to brush up on your knowledge of the lesser-known, mostly forgotten Marvel superheroes if you really want to make the most of the experience this episode has in store for you.

There's been much talk of late about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on the decline, that superhero movies have become oversaturated, and that the general public has been fed at least one multiverse too many.
There's truth to that statement if box office numbers are any indication. And I'd argue that some of that decline is in the over-bloated plotlines that fans got tired of keeping straight. But there's an upside to the multiverse phenomenon: Setting stories in different worlds with different rules opens the door to fresh storytelling. Even more so, telling a tale in one of these alternative realities unshackles the writer from being beholden to the machinations of the overarching sagas the MCU likes to tell.
That's been the appeal of Marvel's animated series, "What If...?" The show takes the multiverse premise and is given the freedom to create fantastical situations that would never occur on...

Marvel’s What If? Is back for a second series on Disney+ this December – and here’s the trailer to prove it…
What If? was a surprising, fun addition to the Marvel canon when it first landed on Disney+, perhaps because the sheer scale of storytelling possibilities is so huge.
Series one featured scenarios as wide ranging as Peggy Carter becoming the First Avenger and T’Challa becoming a Star Lord, to examining what might have happened if artificially-intelligent supervillain Ultron hadn’t been defeated by those pesky Avengers. It doesn’t look like the next run of the show will be pulling its punches either.
Promotion is underway for it now, and we now have a synopsis for the second series. It doesn’t tell us much, but nevertheless reads as follows:

"Things have gotten a little twisted in the Multiverse…" Marvel has revealed the official trailer for Season 2 of the fun spin-off series What If...?, where they present short stories based on crazy "what if" scenarios in the MCU. The first season launched in 2021 to mixed reviews, and this second season will be out to watch in December. One new episode will introduce an original MCU character named Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman who seeks to discover her powers after the Tesseract crash-lands in the Haudenosaunee Confederacy in pre-colonial America. In another episode, Peggy Carter / Captain Carter believes that the love of her life, Steve Rogers, is long-dead until he is discovered alive as the villainous Hydra Stomper. That sounds wild! The voice cast set for Season 2 includes Hayley Atwell, Lake Bell, Josh Keaton, and Jeffrey Wright back as The Watcher, the main character in this taking viewers into the various stories.

Heavy spoilers for "The Marvels" follow.
"Avengers: Endgame" remains a monumental blockbuster, one that marked the end of Marvel as we knew it and should have marked a nice and long break for the franchise.
Since "Endgame," the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in a bit of disarray. There's no unifying plot, nor a lot that connects the movies or characters. This makes it easier for the MCU to simply ignore and forget about every single world-changing event in the new movies and shows the moment credits roll.
Sure, this is supposed to be a saga about the multiverse, a concept explored in a few of the movies and shows of Phases 4 and 5. But that hasn't unified the titles thematically — until now. With "The Marvels," it becomes clear that the MCU is united by a common theme post "Endgame "and that's the idea that you cannot save everyone. It is...

Whilst putting together her thesis film, US-based Chinese filmmaker Yanghuixiao Gao (Gaoyang) returned to her hometown in China and spent a considered amount of time with her mother and grandmother which in turn shaped and drew her to the natural denouement of her short What If. Although Gaoyang initially felt a pull to depict the struggles women experience with their reproductive health, over time that focus became part of a central narrative exploring motherhood and the beauty, pain and awkwardness that exists in mother-daughter relationships. Shot with an accomplished simplicity in the filmmaker’s hometown and harnessing natural light to bring home the almost mundane realism in the film, What If‘s apparent simplicity belies a richly layered and emotionally complicated story. With What If currently enjoying a successful festival run, we spoke to Gaoyang about honing the development of the film’s characters after examining her own relationship with her mother and grandmother,...

The actor for Harry Osborn in Spider-Man: Freshman Year just got confirmed.
The McU's highly anticipated Spider-Man animated series was first announced in November of 2021. While the details behind its continuity were needlessly confusing at first, Marvel Studios eventually confirmed that the show would basically act as an elongated episode of What If...?, exploring a world where Norman Osborn was Peter's mentor instead of Tony Stark.
The show's cast of characters is interesting, to say the least. The first ten episodes will introduce the likes of Amadeus Cho, Nico Minuro, Doctor Strange, Daredevil, Rhino, Scorpion, and more.

What If, the latest Filipino romance movie on Netflix, uses a very familiar narrative trope. It starts with a woman, visibly sad, walking alone on a deserted beach while contemplating a life-altering decision that she has made. She has left the man, she loves, because she feels, she is not good enough for him. That’s what we get from her inner monologue. The story then goes back to a time when things were much happier; everything was bright and sunny. Even the Color Grade changes from vibrant to morbid. There are both Advantages and Disadvantages to using this narrative style. The audience keeps wondering, how the situation changed so drastically for the character, which effectively keeps them glued to the movie till the end. The downside of this is the burden of delivering something substantial and making sense of the opening scene simultaneously. What If does try to pull it off,...

The animated streaming series ‘What If…?’ is one of the most unique and most interesting MCU projects. Not only because of the fact that it was the first animated piece of MCU content but also because everything that happens in this series is non-canonical events that show what would happen if some key moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe had played out differently.
The series’s first season featured nine episodes, some of which were amazing and some were… not. The series features the voice talent of Jeffrey Wright as the Watcher, and various MCU actors have returned to voice their respective characters, with a few exceptions, where new actors were hired to replace actors from live action.
The first season dealt with many key events from the Infinity Saga, and the second one will continue to do so, but it will also dip fingers into the ongoing Multiverse Saga.
