This game is another one of my favorite video games of all time as well as games for the NES, this game has became a cult classic as time went on and it's easy to see how and why I really like how unique this game truly is as it's a combination of two kinds of genres/games where in one aspect there is the shooter but the other is an action RPG. This I thought was an awesome combination as it's something that's to this day rarely done, but most importantly show how you can actually do more with a genre.
Nothing much to the story as you are pretty much a female Transformer like robot as your able to change into a ship but also a robot. Your task is to simply rid the galaxy of an evil force taking control. That's it in a nutshell, it's a basic clenched plot but it's really not important by its nature it's just a clothesline. Like most games of yesteryear, were in it for the action and this game has plenty of it.
The graphic presentation is solid, character sprites are animated well from the sub enemies, bosses, but I really like the design of the main protagonist whom looks and acts like a Transformer as she can change into and back again into a ship and robot.
From the color and design of the character sort of looks like the autobot Windblade from the IDW "Transformers" comic series which is cool as she's one of my favorite characters. So, in a way this game could have been a spinoff adventure for her character. The sub enemies are good/decent, though it's more the bosses that stand out more like some eyeball space serpent and any other strange nasty to destroy.
Really like the background in the shooting stages as their well detailed, but it's really the action RPG that stand out the most as there is a lot to explore and plenty of places to go. Though it's not too vast which is a good thing as you don't get too lost but also fits the nature of the game as it's one that really about going here and there to the goal, completing the task, and then moving on.
Gameplay is basic from the shooter aspect which is good/decent as it's your typical vertical scrolling action. The only really quibble I have about this sequence is that you don't have enough weapons in the sequence. This lack of variety in weapons doesn't make the shooter aspect dull, I just feel like with any food could have used some salt or dab of sauce to make it more tasty.
The other is the action RPG which is pretty much like "Legend of Zelda" but your armed with a gun. I like that you have a variety of weapons, you can blow certain pieces of the environment up to find hidden items and passageways, but I really like that like with any RPG you have the ability to level up as you get further in the game. Which means the life bar will grow and the attacks will have more power.
The music in the game is great this game has some of my favorite music tracks of all time. From the theme music, the first shooting stage and more. The music is just beautiful as it has that galactic adventurous feel to it.
Guardian Legend is a legend you'll never forget.
