Helen Chambers: [about his amnesia] So just to clarify, then, like, nothing?
The Man: You know, I keep telling myself to just try and remember, you know, but it's like trying to make yourself fly. No matter how much you think you're gonna be able to do it, you still just end up a bloody bag of bones and shit and fuckn' intestines.

Well put together opener with hints of Fargo
First time I've seen Jamie Dornan (managed to miss/avoid 50 Shades). He does good work here, with a convincing real-world performance, exhibiting charm without smarm, and humour without slapstick. He's a solid hub around which some of the other actors give more eccentric performances that go just far enough to entertain and sustain interest in a Fargo-eske style without straying too far from the plausable; with likeable and friendly Australian stereotypes replacing the Canadian. I hope the series doesn't squander dramatic tension by venturing too much further into the surreal in the coming episodes, or exaggerating the more characterful performances. Looking forward to more of this Australian Fargo-light show, with additional grounded heft.
