The film presents a time skip, since Akira Toriyama stated that this film will be an original story instead of a remake or adaptation of the new arcs that were being written for the manga at the time. Apparently the film will take place after the Granolah Saga from the manga.
Akira Toriyama began to write this film inmediately after the completion of "Dragon Ball Super Broly" (2018).
This is the first Dragon Ball film in the series to be produced mainly in 3D animation.
For the first time since "Dragon Ball GT (1996)", much like Pan, Goten and Trunks will be aged up to coincide with the fact that this movie takes place beyond where the manga stands right now.
Pan is shown that she hasn't learned to fly already, although in the anime series she has managed to do that when she was just a baby. However, Toriyama considers the manga as the original source and in the manga adaptation of Dragon Ball Super, Pan can't fly yet.
