Wow!

Warning: Spoilers
I did not see that ending coming!

The subject of Kate not being around has been covered in old episodes, where we're thrown into the futur, with Rebecca on her death bed. I thought it meant Kate had died, I definitely was not expecting this outcome! I'm on board with it though, Kate and Toby have had a rough mariage for a while now and it was starting to become obvious they wouldn't work out. To be continued!

As for Kevin and Madison... First of all, kudos to Madison for thinking of her own happiness and wanting the best for herself! With that last scene though, I have a feeling they still end up getting married, Kevin having fallen in love with Madison after all... Here's hoping anyway!

Kevin is the most selfless person, always putting everyone's happiness before his own and if not marrying Madison the first time helps him realize he wants the same thing in the end, I will be a satisfied viewer.

I have rarely loved a show as much as I do this one. I am emotionally invested and I'm not embarrassed to admit it! I will truly miss this show when it ends.

Curtains for S5. & long wait for S6 :(
ldamena26 May 2021
Can't say I'm too shocked at what happened at the wedding tonight. I saw it coming because there where red flags everywhere. Yet, what did shock me was the last two minutes..... what the???????? My emotions were all over the place. Leave it to TiU to leave us in that kind of cliffhanger & to think we probably have to wait almost a year for the last season? My heart hurts. Now I'm intrigued to see how it all gets there.

So good

Warning: Spoilers
They are all great actors, it is the best casting for a show since game of thrones and maybe better call Saul, but damn are Mandy Moore and sterling k brown just stellar. Mandy moore I splaying her 3 different aged versions so well I never feel like seeing someone acting a different age, and sterling just killed me again with his jokes but even more with his melting down with Mandy moore about his mothers. This show is incredible, and I fear that Rebecca's end will be heartbreaking.

Gearing up for an epic final season!
aaronwaschbisch27 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What an emotional rollercoaster this season has been; and they did not shy away for this last episode! The writers are incredible and crafted such a bitter/sweet "breakup" ... however shocking the final scene was; it dropped some BIG hints. I know many people think that Kate is going to marry her boss. HOWEVER, did you notice that Madison's mom is English? Kate's boss is English. Could Kate's boss truly be Madison's brother? Which means that last scene COULD be Kate and Toby's vow renewals AFTER Kevin and Madison ended up getting married (down the road)... Kevin did say that their love will grow ... which then makes sense why Kate's boss called Kevin his brother-in-law.

The final season is going to be EPIC! Highly season 6 !

Oh my God. It was an incredible episode. The writing is absolutely stunning! There were so many connections with many events or dialogues throughout the whole series. As much of the past AND the future of all charaters. Major plot twist at the end. I just CAN'T wait for the final season of that amazing show that will never stop impress me. I lovee it all and forever. Thank you Dan Folgeman and everyone else for giving me that.

Great ep to a mediocre season
poohead4527 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was not a huge fan on this season at all but this last episode was really great.

I'm happy about the breakup between Kevin and Madison (altho it seems like they'll end up together in the future =( ) I felt like something was going to happen with Kate's boss when he said she was beautiful and wouldn't let her resign.

I was happy to see them getting married (Toby has grown on me but I did not like him at all when Kate and him originally got together)

The Randall /Rebecca storyline made me cry. It was a really beautiful scene.

While I liked that Beth and Tess had a loving moment, I don't think most people want to wear or like their bridesmaid gowns. It's just something we are all forced to do at some point in our lives.* Lord knows I had to wear a dress I hated to my brother's wedding (Tess's dress was so much better!) * I think it was disrespectful to alter the dress without the bride's permission. Life is about grinning and bearing it sometimes and not making it all about you and your feelings.

I think if Tess brought it up beforehand Madison would have been receptive to changing her look.

I want to say Deja looked absolutely stunning (all the girls did) but wow Deja looked so beautiful. I am so happy for Malik getting into all the schools! I hope he winds up being the father of her baby.

I know some people think the ending was a mislead but I've read that it's legit Toby and Kate are divorcing and she's marrying her boss. (who I've been seeing popping a lot since You're The Worst ended) Go, Chris Geere!

I knew it
bspwkbg26 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I knew it, that Kev and Madison won't get married, partially from those teasers in which Kevin came to his mom alone. I also knew Kate's marriage wouldn't last because Toby is a lot, I don't know, he's just a lot, not because of his depression, but because of something I can't really explain. I kinda dig Kate and the British guy, I feel he gets her. Oh boy, it's gonna go down . Poor madison, she has never been really loved except by Kate, and it hurts and hit home when she said she would take any scraps of affection she could get. What more does she need to say, let's please give her a happy ending, I sure as h*ll need one vicariously through her.

Great Acting but weak writing
sdrake2-53-37353126 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This season overall has been significantly weaker than its predecessors. Yes, COVID definitely is a big hurdle to overcome, but the writing quality has greatly diminished. Every conversation in this episode should have been had NOT two hours before a wedding. Tying loose ends at the last minute is so cliché, and a trope this show had rarely ever gone on. The big reveal at the end was very WTF and not that exciting...I REALLY hope this show pulls a "Handmaid's Tale" and bounces back from the weak season with a super strong one. And with it being the last season approaching, it definitely has the potential. The acting however was flawless as always, and is honestly what kept this season afloat. I want intriguing storylines again!

Practically Perfect
tanstorck26 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was amazing. The writing and acting was excellent as always. I also thought the lighting and cinematography was beautiful in this episode. I am very happy with how Madison and Kevin mutually agree they aren't meant to be. I enjoyed seeing more of Madison's side of things. Randall and Rebecca's emotional conversation was very well acted. Randall saying "she's my birth mother" after Rebecca referred to Laurel as his mother was so simple but so heartwarming. There were so many great comedic moments in this episode to balance out the heaviness of some scenes. I loved the second to last scene where Rebecca sat around with the big three and asks Kevin to build the cabin Jack was going to build. I also appreciated Toby telling Kate he loves her so much more than the movie quotes she knows. I didn't care too much for the flashforward, but I'm sure they are just throwing us off. I hope Kate doesn't marry someone else. Maybe "This is Us" is doing some sort of alternate timline for the final season like "Lost" did. I am looking forward to the final season and have high expectations after the show has been consistently excellent.

Warning: Spoilers
Ok, go with me here but could it be that Nicky ends up with Rebecca?? I know everyone will be thinking about the ending of this episode but Nicky mentions 'the missus' right at the end and flashback to the future scene where Nicky is at Rebecca's bedside in the big house? God I love this show 😂

Almost very good
wissia21 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The show ending is realistic. Both couples had been walking on very thin ice for a long time. The final montage is constructed beautifully.

But one negative note: enough with the fake tolerance of all sensitivities, it undermines actual issues. Don't feel at ease in a dress? Don't wear it and don't be a bridesmaid - the world doesn't revolve around your clothing discomforts and pretending it should is a disservice to actual societal struggle. This was the rant of a privileged and ungrateful child, nothing to learn from this scene.

they ruined it
neveron26 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is one of the worst episodes i've watched in the show and this is coming from one of the show's biggest fans. Breaking off Kate and Toby's relationship makes no sense. This show is based on realism, true relationships need work. Toby has been nothing but supportive of Kate, supporting her through the abortion arc, taking her to see her abusive ex (for closure?). Unless Toby's done something so incredibly unforgivable in the future that Kate needed to marry her a**h*l* of a boss, which to me is the most annoying trope of all, it'd make sense. Hopefully this is better told in season 6, otherwise they've ruined a perfectly good storyline. To say i am disappointed would be an understatement.

If we are doing movie quotes
dolphiea26 May 2021
Clever gurl (Jurassic park) So, the 80's Dynasty cliffhanger was brought into this..and the crazy Kate, Toby , creepy ex-boss "thing" was injected...me thinks this was a distraction. We will see where the writers go, hopefully they will acknowlegde the intelligence of the characters they have created and will support them.

Like other reviewers I was shocked by the flash forward but maybe it was meant to throw us off! Bear with me- what if Sophie is marrying Kate's boss and Kate & Toby are doing a vow renewal as a double ceremony?

Forget the first 3 episodes!
fersiaf27 June 2021
Haha! I really don't know what happened with the first 3 episodes but I almost lost the enthusiasm watching the series. But given its track record of recovering after a sad and heartache filled episode, I stick to it and damn S5 is simply the reason why you must hold onto it. The last episode is epic like you just want to know what happened. It's This is Us so you just can't know. Can't wait for S6!

It Played Out Pretty Much as Expected Considering the Characters
Hitchcoc20 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The wedding is rife with conflict. We know that whatever happens, Kevin is going through the motions, trying to control everything. But we have seen that he is being "responsible" from the time Madison gives him the news. Sleeping with her in the first place was a huge mistake and he is willing to fulfill his obligation. There is some love there but not enough. He is utterly manic in his control of the wedding. The scene between Rebecca and Randall is a master class in acting. This scene should be shown in acting classes for anyone wanting to create sympathetic characters under duress. Beautiful. I, too, found the business with the dress ridiculous. She is mature enough to go her own way and be proud of who she is, but to state her mind a few minutes before the ceremony, is selfish. She could have given one hour to those she loved, then changed her clothes for the reception. I'm all for the her right to be who she is, but she should have just decided not to be in the wedding, long before the event itself.

As for the conclusion, it certainly hooks us into the final season. After Kevin and Madison have their final talk and the wedding is off, anything is fair game. Obviously, Kate and Toby couldn't each pursue their life goals and stay together. Rebecca will get more and more ill. And Madison will have to wait to find her way. She has lots of issues, but she does have twins to deal with.

Why's Everyone So Bent Up...?
setgetsiin26 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
...the breakup of Toby and Kate was alluded to at the end of one of the past seasons, where Rebecca was 1,000yrs old in a bed at Kevin's place (it also showed Kevin's kids in that clip--in fact, it's the episode where Zoe breaks up with him over having kids)...everyone is going on like it is a surprise. Go back and look! It was already written.

And I'm thrilled because I've always been Team Sophie anyway.

The bridesmaid's dress: Either do what the bride wants or excuse yourself. This isn't about anyone else but the marrying couple. I refused to wear a dress for the first 20yrs of my life. Guess what? I didn't get to be in any bridal parties. Because it wasn't ABOUT ME. When did being gay automatically mean the world revolves around you...? Oh, since millennials.

This likely won't make it past the equally as uptight sensitivity filters, but I did want to make it abundantly clear: Kate and Tobes were on borrowed time, and we DID know about it for a while.

A Stupid Twist with No Impact
jkmtzgr9 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had some nice moments like with showing Jack and Rebecca reenact their wedding with their kids. Also, Rebecca confronting Randall about her guilt for keeping the things she knew about his birth parents from him. But it's hard to talk about this episode without addressing the poor decisions the writers made.

Madison's character arc this season was terrible. How many times do we have to see this kind of story? Kevin shouldn't have slept with her in the first place, because we knew how it would all play out: She's going to catch feelings for him, Kevin's going to be excited about becoming a father and starting a family, they're relationship is going to come crashing down but it's okay because she discovered more about herself? They have a responsibility of taking care of two kids! I'm sorry but that shows a lot more courage than just breaking off their wedding, that their family spent thousands of dollars on, just to say that you found yourself.

Kevin has always been the toxic one in his relationships and the "relationship" he had with Madison was no exception. I have no sympathy for him anymore.

Kate has been one the most annoying, pretentious, unsatisfied, whining people of this whole show. She has always been a quitter. Because she and Toby couldn't work out their relationship makes her weak of character. Yes they've hinted a few times that their marriage might not last, but they usually found a way to work through their problems. The fact that they didn't and Kate marries someone else in only a few years, shows that the writers are running low on twists and turns. Who's ultimately going to suffer for their divorce? Their blind son and their adopted daughter.

Kate is not strong or admirable like what the media proudly proclaims her as.

I'm just hoping the last season will be more satisfying than this finale.
