Fresh start

I enjoyed the first episode. The acting is fresh and dealt with the topic of trauma in an honest way while having a sense of humor about the difficultiess of life. I found the characters in this first episode to be complex and performances of Gad and Fisher to be believable. My wife and I are both said we want to see where this story goes from here. So far, so good.

Wolf Like Me is billed as a romantic comedy horror. The main premise is Gary (Josh Gad) is an American living in Australia. He is widowed and left to raise his 11 year old daughter Emma on his own.

Gary is struggling with parenthood, Emma has panic attacks which indicates she is also struggling without her mother.

Mary (Isla Fisher) literally collides into their lives in an automobile accident. At least she manages to calm Emma down from her panic attack.

Mary seems to be the first person in a while who can get through Emma. It impresses enough for Gary to ask her out for a date.

Only Mary who claims to have moved to Australasia from Chicago seems reluctant. Like she is hiding a secret.

Not a strong first episode but it is not without its charm or some awkwardness. The scenes at the end leaves in little doubt why Mary has to rush home. It is just a case of how much the horror element gets in the way of romance.

Won't bother watching the rest of the season or series. I didn't connect with any of the characters and Isla Fisher's erratic accent is annoying. Although obvious from the title she's a werewolf, I don't care enough to stick around to see how it plays out.
