A quivering lower lip doesn't count as acting
MovieShrink74 June 2021
This is far from the weakest episode of the season. We get a few answers here and there. The problem is that this is episode 8...out of 10. We should be barreling towards the finish line. Instead it feels like we're inching along and being subjected to more and more filler. More questions were raised than answered in this episode. I just hope everything gets satisfactorily resolved in the final two. Unfortunately I do not plan to hold my breath.

As an aside, the acting on this show is just...painful. Most of the characters are genuinely wooden. Then Jeannette spends at least 30% of the time with a quivering lower lip (and at least another 40% scowling). I knew to lower my standards for this show. I watched Pretty Little Liars. I knew what to expect. But even that show had largely engaging actors even if the plot and writing was cuckoo bananas.

[7.4] Taking a dive

Warning: Spoilers
A filler episode where basically nothing happens, aside some minor developments. It's not horrendous, but it's not acceptable either as only two more episodes are left.

Would they fire a shuttle to the moon in the last ones?! Improbable; guess we'll see... The acting is average at best in this one with lots of hurt feelings, expressions of guilt, mumbling and raised voices.

As much as I like Jeannette's character and facial expressions throughout 93-95, Kate's shininess and aura were missing in 'Proof'.

There's one member of the main cast who can act...

...and she wasn't in this episode. Kate is the only character who doesn't feel completely flat and uncomfortable 100% of the time, and Olivia Holt is really the only actor in the main cast with stage presence or dynamic expressions. Her absence was extremely noticeable this episode.

Additionally, nothing actually happened in this episode. Like, nothing. Genuinely. Nothing in this episode felt like it contributed to the story at all. Just Jeanette moanin and groanin, a conflict between her dad and the girlfriend that doesn't make sense or mean anything, weird scenes between Ben and Vince where it doesn't seem like either of them really wants to be there, boyfriend of the year doing more awful things, and Mallory...yelling? Being generally rude and unpleasant to everyone? That's the episode. Nothing gained.
