Black Mask Studios is adapting Godkiller into an animated trilogy.
The publisher is financing the big screen adaptation of the series, by Matt Pizzolo, Anna Muckcracker Wieszczyk and Ben Templesmith, reports Deadline.
The comic follows the journey of an orphaned adolescent and escaped slave across a blasted wasteland.
Black Mask will finance and produce the project, which expands the experimental 2010 film Godkiller: Walk Among Us, which starred Lance Henriksen, AFI's Davey Havok, Danielle Harris, Bill Moseley and Lydia Lunch.
To follow Walk Among Us, Pizzolo will write and direct Godkiller: Tomorrow's Ashes in 2016 and Godkiller: The Trouble You Took From Her Eyes in 2017.
He is one of the founders of Black Mask alongside Steve Niles and Bad Religion's Brett Gurewitz.
Godkiller launched as a self-published, underground title in 2008 and was subsequently picked up by Black Mask.

Exclusive: Godkiller, the post-apocalyptic comic series from Black Mask Studios, is hurtling toward the screen as a new trilogy of animated features that will be self-financed and produced by the upstart publisher and transmedia co. The saga of a teenage orphan and an escaped slavegirl journeying through a post-apocalyptic wasteland first debuted in 2008 as a self-published underground comic that cultivated a devoted cult following. The comic is now heading into its second printing after debuting last week via Black Mask Studios.
The Godkiller films are being directed and scripted by Matt Pizzolo, who co-created the comic with Anna Muckcracker Wieszczyk and Ben Templesmith. Back in 2010 Pizzolo’s Halo-8 shingle put out an experimental illustrated feature titled Godkiller: Walk Among Us that debuted digitally and on home vid featuring the voices of Lance Henriksen, AFI’s Davey Havok, Danielle Harris, Bill Moseley, and Lydia Lunch.

Steve Niles, Matt Pizzolo, and Brett Gurewitz are getting into the comic book publishing game with the new comic book company, Black Mask Studios.
They want the label to be indicative of their punk roots, and put the onus on the creators.
Pizzolo: “Comics has a troubled history with its treatment of creators…our goal is to bring the supportive ethic of record labels like Epitaph, Dischord, and Revelation to comics.” Niles: “Brett, Matt, and I all came up in the Diy punk scene…And we’re bringing that kind of attitude to this… the constructive part about supporting voices who are talking about real things but in a bold and exciting way. We’re not afraid to bring in activism and politics and counterculture. What publisher today could be bringing out the next V For Vendetta? Nobody.“

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.
10:00-11:00 Comic-Con How-To: Anatomy of a Fight Scene, Part One— Stories are about conflict, and there is no purer form of conflict than a good ol' fisticuffs-style brawl-or sword fight, laser battle, western shootout, or even two chicks pulling each other's hair. 30 Days of Night writer Steve Niles and Epitaph Records CEO/Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz are joining Halo-8 president/Godkiller writer Matt Pizzolo to form new comics outfit Black Mask Studios with the aim of disrupting the comics market.
From the Press Release:
Niles (pictured) will serve as creative director with Pizzolo as president, and Gurewitz's Epitaph Records will power the operation.
"Comics have become this monopolized walled garden where you're only allowed to grow two things: superheroes and movie treatments," said Pizzolo. "We're going to open a new space outside the entrenched market where we can cultivate more subversive, experimental, and literary comics to reach broader audiences."
"With both Godkiller and 30 Days of Night, we discovered a large community of readers outside the comic market who really had no idea how to get comics," said Niles. "This is a way to reach those people again and expand the comic reading audience.

Director Matt Pizzolo and Halo-8 will be adapting Tim Seeley's mini-series "Hack/Slash: My First Maniac" in a similar style akin to Halo-8's previous release Godkiller . Grant has expressed interest in the past in playing Hack in a live-action feature film. That's her pictured below in her own personal Hack costume she cooked up for Halloween. When we posted our schedule for Day 3 of San Diego Comic-Con, one item caught our eye that might, however, have slipped by yours so we thought we'd do a separate story bringing it to your attention: During the Halo-8 panel on that day, the actress playing Cassie Hack in the Hack/Slash illustrated film will be introduced!
The actress, who is also appearing at Sdcc for a panel promoting another genre series she stars in, will join creator Tim Seeley and director Matt Pizzolo at Halo-8's panel on Saturday, July 23rd, from 7:00-8:00 pm in Room 9.
The Hack/Slash illustrated film is currently in production. It mixes comic book sequential art with 3D CGI and, in a new twist for Halo-8, rotoscoped animation of live-action performances.

Bonnie and Clyde vs. Dracula is less a throwback to good old Aip drive-in flicks from the 60s than it is a throwback to straight-to-video Troma films of the 90s. I know that probably sounds like good news for you Troma junkes looking to view a micro-budget indie that re-captures the glorious goofiness of something like Redneck Zombies, but unfortunately B and C vs. D doesn't have the same reckless abandon as those early underground movies and fails to push the envelope, winding up a somewhat fun, but mostly dull, film that doesn't really deliver on its tantalizing premise of, well, Bonnie and Clyde vs. Dracula for one.
That's not to say there's not some talent at work here. For one, we've got Tiffany Shepis playing Bonnie. Shepis is considered a...

What a better way to celebrate "Women in Horror Month" than a tribute to our favorite scream queen! According to Wikipedia a scream queen is an actress who has become associated with horror films, either through an appearance in a notable entry as a frequent victim or through constant appearances as the protagonist. Who could wear the heavy crown of such a broad definition? To be the Queen her majesty must embrace all expectations. Well, we think we’ve found her and after a life time career of horror, All Hail Danielle Harris!
The scream queen. Well, we all know she has to at least have a set of lungs on her but what else? Multiple rolls in horror films is a must and a little skin, nudity or sex is a plus. Oh, and she’s got to be drop dead gorgeous to boot! She can fall victim to...

Earlier this year, we gave you the first look at a set of images from "Black Sky," the upcoming illustrated film by "Welcome To Hoxford" and "Choker" creator (and "30 Days of Night" co-creator) Ben Templesmith. Described as a post-apocalyptic mix of "Band Of Brothers" and an H.P. Lovecraft horror tale, "Black Sky" is directed by Matt Pizzolo ("Godkiller") and produced by Halo-8 Entertainment, distributors of the "Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods" documentary.
And we have your first, exclusive look at the "Black Sky" teaser...
Planned as both an illustrated film and a comic book, "Black Sky" will debut in early 2011 in both formats. The story is also an original tale by Templesmith, and not an existing comic given the illustrated film treatment.
According to Pizzolo, the difference between an "illustrated film" and a "motion comic" can be compared to "the difference between a movie that was shot in 3-D versus...

It seems Halo-8 Entertainment are continuing the success of their Matt Pizzolo helmed motion comic 'Godkiller' by utilising the style to adapt Tim Seeley's great comic book series 'Hack/Slash'. This shouldn't be confused with Rogue Pictures' planned live-adaption movie of the series which is supposed to arrive sometime in 2012. The 'Hack/Slash' motion comic movie will be based on the upcoming mini-series 'My First Maniac' (arriving from Image Comics), which will detail Cassie Hack's (below) first ever case. ''Hack/Slash' tells the ongoing adventures of Cassie Hack (daughter of the evil slasher known as The Lunch Lady), who rejected her mother's murderous ways and instead devoted her life to hunting down slashers with her partner Vlad.' It seems the motion comic adaption's don't stop there either as Pizzolo is also planning something similar with another of Seeley's works, 'Loaded Bible'. The plan is...

A wha? Full details below. Filmmaker Matt Pizzolo will turn Hack/Slash into an illustrated film much like he did with Godkiller (more here) for Halo-8. Check out the press release below. While sadly there's still no real news concerning the feature film version of Tim Seeley's Hack/Slash, fans can look forward another adaptation that's on its way!
From the Press Release
Halo-8 Entertainment has picked up the rights for award-winning filmmaker Matt Pizzolo (Godkiller) to adapt the Tim Seeley comic book Hack/Slash in the illustrated-film style Pizzolo designed with Emmy-winning producer Brian Giberson for Godkiller, which opened theatrically in 11 cities earlier this year and sold through its first DVD pressing at San Diego Comic-Con in July. Pizzolo intends to begin by adapting the Hack/Slash series "My First Maniac," currently being published in comic book form by Image Comics. Halo-8 is planning to release the illustrated-film in 2011 as a double-feature with Pizzolo's previously announced adaptation of Seeley's Loaded Bible comic book.

When is a motion comic not a motion comic? When it is an 'illustrated film.' I'll leave it to you, our readers, to ponder the difference between those terms while you think about the upcoming illustrated film version of the comic Hack/Slash. A film based on the comic has been slowly working through development for a couple years, and we haven't heard much about it since Stephen Susco was hired to write a new draft almost a year ago. While the live-action film version struggles through development, Matt Pizzolo (Godkiller) will create the illustrated film version of Hack/Slash for Halo-8 Entertainment. MTV provides the info, and a very brief teaser clip of the final product, which is embedded below. (And set to the tune of 'Where Eagles Dare' by the Misfits.) There's not much detail about what Pizzolo will do with the material -- no...

Pizzolo will adapt "My First Maniac" ( review ) currently being published in comic book form by Image Comics. The fate of a live-action "Hack/Slash" movie might be a little uncertain right now (though the project reportedly snagged a new writer late last year), but Cassie Hack will make the jump to the animated world next year with an "illustrated film" based on Tim Seeley's comic book series.
Produced by Halo-8 Entertainment, the "Hack/Slash" illustrated film (it's not a "motion comic," I'm told) will be adapted and directed by award-winning filmmaker Matt Pizzolo, who previously produced Halo-8's popular "GodKiller" illustrated film. The road from concept to comic to DVD/Blu-ray has been a long, rocky one for the illustrated film Godkiller, mainly because demand has been so high that Halo-8 Entertainment simply hasn't been able to keep up. To make up for the postponement of the Blu-ray release to a still yet to be determined date, company President Matt Pizzolo (who also wrote and directed the film) has announced that purchasers of the standard-def DVD will be entitled to a free Godkiller Blu-ray.
From the Press Release:
"We're not trying to double-dip on the DVD and Blu-ray. The hi-def version is being delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, but we want Godkiller fans to feel confident getting the film now and knowing we'll take care of them when the Blu-ray comes out," explained Pizzolo.

During Halo-8 Entertainment's Saturday night panel "Illustrated Films & Comics" at the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con, writer/director Matt Pizzolo made the announcement that breakout hit comic book and illustrated film Godkiller is making the leap to franchise status with the production of a spin-off series, Godkiller: Adventures in Outer City.
"Godkiller Adventures will be more of a fun, episodic, adventure series about our lovable anti-heroines and their adventures as hookers who moonlight as organ stealers so they can buy back their freedom from a crazy post-nuke pimp," explained Pizzolo. "This will be a fun series to do while we're working on the next installment of the full-length illustrated-film series...it'll be short and twisted adventures." Best of all? Actresses Danielle Harris and Tiffany Shepis will return to voice their characters Halfpipe and Angelfuck, respectively, and illustrator Anna Muckcracker will return to illustrate the series.

Halo-8 and Matt Pizzolo's "illustrated film" Godkiller has added eight cities to its You-Demand-It Theatrical Tour, and in addition word has come down from their VOD partner, Gravitas Ventures, that 19 of the 20 major cable VOD providers have selected the film for their summer programming, ensuring it will be available in over 75 million homes starting May 25th.

The VOD carriers supporting Godkiller include Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Charter, Verizon, Cablevision, DirecTV, Dish, Rcn, Insight, Mediacom, Bresnan, Suddenlink, Rogers, Videotron, Sasktel, Cogeco, Shaw, Telus, and more as well as digital carriers Amazon, Apple iTunes, Playstation Network, and Xbox Live.

Motion comics like the one that DC created for "Watchmen" and the original Spider-Woman production that Marvel put together drew a lot of attention to a digital branch of comics-inspired entertainment. Halo-8 Entertainment has taken that genre into an expanded form that the studio calls "illustrated film," and they've informed Splash Page that popular comics creator Ben Templesmith will step on board for a potential announcement next week week at C2E2.
"When I first discovered Halo-8 and their approach to entertainment, I knew I'd found a kindred spirit," said "Hack/Slash" creator Tim Seeley in an official statement. An adaptation of Seeley's "Loaded Bible: Blood of Christ" comic is already in production at Halo-8.
"They make the kinds of films they want, they don't answer to a major studio, and they know how to use technology and make it work for them," he added.

During their recent panel at WonderCon entitled "Halo-8: Comic Books and Illustrated Films," Halo-8 reps announced their next original comic book/illustrated film transmedia combo will be Matt Pizzolo's The Long Knives, "a giallo horror, bare-knuckled revenge movie with an otherworldly Tim Burton-esque aesthetic." The artwork will be courtesy of newcomer illustrator Ana Ludeshka.
"I wanted to do a gritty realism horror with a dark-hearted toughness like the first Mad Max, which totally kicked me in the nuts when I first saw it as a kid," explained Pizzolo, "but I didn't want the over-the-top visuals to fall into torture porn so it seemed like an awesome fit to do this in a giallo style and tie in the stylized horror of my faves Mario Bava and Dario Argento. Ana Ludeshka's ethereal visuals and extreme use of color are a perfect fit, and I was super excited to discover her for this.

Halo-8 reps announced their next original comic-book/illustrated-film transmedia combo will be Matt Pizzolo's The Long Knives, "a giallo horror, bare-knuckled revenge movie with an otherworldly Tim Burton-esque aesthetic." That visual aesthetic will come courtesy of newcomer illustrator Ana Ludeshka.

Shock Till You Drop has Ed Douglas on the scene at WonderCon in San Francisco, and he's writing in with a few updates this weekend. Yesterday, Halo-8, the company behind the illustrated film Godkiller , revealed they're going to apply the same "illustrated film" treatment to Tim Seeley's comic book "Loaded Bible." They're also doing a giallo horror film The Long Knives , a hard-knuckle bloody revenge movie. "Like Tim Burton if Tim Burton wanted to hack people up," said Halo-8's reps. The project will be directed by Matt Pizzolo, who wrote and directed Godkiller .

I’ve been reporting about the individual releases and episodes of Godkiller: Walk Among Us, the ‘illustrated film’ based on the comic from Matt Pizzolo and Anna Muckcracker for quite some time now. Now Halo-8 Entertainment has released a first trailer for the complete film that consists of all three episodes and will premiere during the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) on April 16th. If you can’t make it to Chicago, you’ll have to wait until May 25th when it will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
Synopsis:
Godkiller: Walk Among Us is the story of a boy on a quest to save his dying sister. It takes place in a dark future after economic collapse, after nuclear holy war, and after Earth is colonized by alien races. Tommy and his kid sister Lucy live in an orphanage in one of the few remaining city-states,...

The third and final episode of Matt Pizzolo's "illustrated film" Godkiller: Walk Among Us is being released April 20th, but that's not the biggest news. Halo-8 has announced the full-length feature version will premiere at Chicago's C2E2 (the new comic-con/pop-culture mega-event produced by the team behind NY Comic-Con), and to celebrate, they have put together a new trailer!

You have to give AFI credit for catering to their fans, who are known to be quite rabid in their dissection of the band's songs and videos -- from hidden messages to overall themes. The premiere of "Beautiful Thieves" was no different, and to help answer some of those questions, AFI has released a behind-the-scenes look at the video.
In the six-minute piece each member of AFI shares insight on the song itself, the meaning of the video, or what it's like on the set of a video shoot. In describing the overall video, lead vocalist Davey Havok remarks, "[It] shows people actually being forced to be responsible for their actions. We implement that retribution, if you will."
