Refreshing and Eerie

Quite the idea, actually getting the audience to see what the MTF (A subset in the SCP foundation, a fictional organization) deal with on a daily basis and the master minds behind this really deliver. You'll love the authenticity to militaristic procedures and want to see more. Watching it all unfold is an intense adventure!

An incredibly well produced short

Warning: Spoilers
SCP Overlord was beautiful. The composition was amazing and the atmosphere was great. But it was a little disappointing to me. Don't get me wrong, the cast and crew all did a spectacular job but I feel like it was a little lacking in substance. The premise was fine, I liked the whole cult aspect. But it seemed like there were a whole lot of loose ends that weren't tied up. The biggest "dude what" moment for me was at the end. When the team exits the house and has a short exchange with the guys holding down the perimeter, I remember thinking that the guy who asked them to hand over the camera may not have been who he said he was. I think that could've been a great little cliffhanger to end on, but then they switch to Kolinski, who is looking through the camera in confusion. Then we see that the floating things from earlier are tethered to...something? Then it ends. I understand the appeal of an ambiguous ending and letting the viewer come up with their own idea of what happened, but we just saw so many things happen so rapidly and with no explanation that we can't even come up with a good idea of what might've happened. And that's part of the bigger thing that irks me about this short is that it wasn't all that scary to me. I get that horror is subjective but just hear me out. I didn't feel like I had time to be scared. Whenever something scary would happen, it wouldn't have the effect it was going for because I was busy thinking about something that happened in the last scene. The whole time I was just too confused to be scared, which was a little disappointing. All this being said, I still really liked this, and I think everyone did a wonderful job. I look forward to seeing more projects by Evan and Stephen, I just hope next time I can focus on being scared ;)

Fantastic

This is the best SCP film I've ever seen. The overall plot is not boring and because it's a short film, it doesn't take up too much time. For a short film, it deserves this rating.

A new genre of horror, and I can't wait to see more!
GhostOperator41623 November 2020
SCP Overlord started funding several months ago and raised over $23,000. I say this for myself and others when I believe the money was put to good use. The movie's atmosphere was tense and mysterious at times. The story overall was well written and the dialogue could line up with military standards. The cast was also pretty good as some of them are former military and it's more realistic than other films I seen. Lastly, the original soundtrack was phenomenal and kept you in the mood the entire time. I can't wait to see what projects Evan and Stephen have in store next time.

Best Action/Horror I've ever seen.
prestondyess23 November 2020
Everything from the realism of the MTF operators to the main threat that the team face is top notch. I was a backer of this film and it's by far some of the best money I've ever spent. Phenomenal work.

Incredible from start to finish

One word. Wow. Everything from the realism in the operators movements to the props and effects. They really captures the "mystic" feeling that is backbone of the SCP Foundation, and manages to switch from horror into action i a split second. Man, makes you wish it was longer. Amazing, 10/10.

I'm not going to keep repeating the same good points about this, it's a good short. The best SCP film out right now but I can't help but feel like the actual plot was put on the sidelines to instead focus on production. After watching the other short films the channel has produced and seeing them reach a conclusion watching Overlord felt like I was just purposely teasing myself. While I was able to put two and two together and form a cohesive story it ended before a climax was even reached and although it may sound petty that is frustrating. I felt more full-filled watching their earlier shorts made in game because they where full story's. From the way they formatted Overlord it was as if it was a first episode in a sires. But judging by their uploading history I'm fairly sure this is just a one off, really too bad. So I guess my real issue is it's too damn good to be so short lmao.

Honestly wish there was more.

Although small in scale, I would say it's a very good short film. When you make a movie based of the SCP Foundation with any kind of production value, it's guaranteed to get people to watch it, but if you make a good one, then it's a whole other category of great.

The plot leaves a lot of mystery for the audience to figure out, just like a lot of the SCP documents. This means I still think about this movie quite frequently, even though it's been a while since I've watched it.

Hope to see more short films like this, as I'd definitely want to support them in any way I can.

Not 7 star because I didn't enjoy this.

Warning: Spoilers
I loved this.

[Now, before you read my review I want you (if you really cared about this film) to go and watch "OperatorDrewski"s behind the scenes video on YouTube, he played as one of the main characters and gives some real insight into the project.]

I've been an SCP enthusiast for a while now, and once I heard about this I knew I had to see it. And just wow, for a film with a budget of less than 30,000, just wow. This film looked amazing, sounded amazing, a flowed quite smoothly. To get what I didn't like out of the way: I have to mention the writing and dialogue, it was sub-par, I saw another reviewer that mentioned this as well, what they said, when they said it just didn't feel like what you would really say in a situation like they were in, and these task forces (MTFs) are highly trained, they probably wouldn't be chit-chatting while on an assignment like that. And of course, the ending; in the end, I think it was fine, especially with the budget they were working with, all I'm saying is I didn't think it was that good of an ending, this could easily be a very solid 2 hour film. Of course, they couldn't do that though. But my goodness, besides that it was flawless. And proceeds my opinions of many million dollar Hollywood films today. Also, most of this cast are doing this free of pay, this film was not created to attract profit, it was genuine people getting together and doing something they loved for the sake of trying to create a good story and badass shots of dudes with Airsoft guns. Overall, I do believe it is a 7 star, I think everyone on set was (and are) extremely talented individuals, and watching something like this (a small, low budget film made for the sake of enjoyment that I myself loved) made me extremely happy and hopeful for the future of small film.

The definition of unknown horror

Stephen and Evan create yet another masterpiece in this SCP genre and I am not surprised that they did such an astounding job at every aspect.

Hamstrung by mediocre writing
combine-overwatch11 January 2021
I would give it 10/10 if the writing matched the top-notch camerawork, production and post. Stephen Hancock is amazing.

But the screenplay needed a lot more work than the 2 months it got. Most decisions made by the characters and the mission control don't make sense, the character's mannerisms don't match the backstory, the military lingo is misused half the time. Refine the screenplay a lot more next time, and you'll have an absolute winner.

Very well made film

Warning: Spoilers
I thoroughly enjoyed this short film, as it shows it did research into military tactics, weaponry and uniforms. The beginning of the film was very well done, I liked the strobe lights view as they started their mission. The special effects are amazing for such a short film. The tension in the film is also well done. It all comes together as a very thoroughly worked on piece of art. Which I enjoyed very much.

Its alright
shtefaniosamuel4 August 2022
The writing is alright. Nothing really profound or terrifying. The acting is hit or miss, but that's to be expected with a YouTube film. The movie has an eerie atmosphere and is suspenseful at times, but fails to really portray the lovecraftian terror of the SCP. The movie doesn't have enough time to build a relevant amount of suspense, or to develop an emotional investment in the characters so the impact really isn't there. Its an ok film considering the budget and runtime constraints.

Pretty cool
gravloc11 August 2022
I liked it, but like another guy said, they definitely need a military advisor. These guys could be taken out easily, the way they move around all bunched up. One grenade or good soldier could easily wipe them out. Otherwise, I really liked the film.

A great example of tactical horror
deltahalo-9652624 November 2020
This is an amazingly shot and well put together short film. The pacing was great and the suspense was palpable. The costumes were masterfully put together and the voice acting was great as always. There was little to no hand holding in terms of story telling. A viewer isn't lost if they don't know the lore of SCP and those that do are rewarded even more. The only thing that keeps me from giving a 10 is that the physical actors didn't seem to match up entirely with the voice actors. Other than that, the film was great and I can't wait for more to come! Also, the fact that this was shot during COVID and it is this level of quality speaks high volumes of the entire cast and crew.

After watching the earlier shorts this channel made in game and than coming back to Overlord I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed. It's feels as though plot and in general every characters common sense has been put on the sidelines for production (amazing as it is). The short ended before the story even reached a climax and while it may sound petty, that is frustrating. I felt more full filled after watching their GTA 5 scp films then their live action ones because they ended up having a plot line as scuffed as they where. SCP Overlord is formatted as if it's episode one in a tv series but seeing their upload schedule it most definitely isn't, too bad.

Pioneering the Frontier of SCP Horror/Thriller Films
bfltc24 November 2020
With such a small cast and budget, entirely crowdfunded by fans willing to pay for films that finally make use of the stories, creatures, and eldritch horrors from the SCP Foundation, Stephen and Even bring us the experience of former military personnel, and knowledge of experts in all things SCP, and combine them to create a masterpiece of occult horror.

SCP: Overlord left me feeling a genuine terror of what lurks in the dark, and what can't be seen in plain sight. At the start, the audience is introduced to an unnatural cult, and by the end, the ordinary details come back to prove their worth with an unforgettable revelation of the world that surrounds the characters of the film.

I can't wait to see what they do next.

Incredible!
keiarnnguyen26 November 2020
I watched this movie in the comfort of my own home, and I have to say I have never felt more excited to see where a film goes. The story was well-rounded, and it felt more military-ish than many movies with triple its budget. It keeps you on your toes, and the twists were unexpected; which just made me fall in love with this movie even more. I hope to see bigger, longer and more action-packed films from the creators in the inevitable future.

Brilliant, mysterious and spooky atmosphere
petterkoraa24 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
For a short film with limited money and time, this might be the best horror themed film/movie I have ever seen. From start to end, it keeps the tention that makes this movie a masterpiece. You dont get a cheap jumpscare to finish the tension, you are left with questions, just like in some the SCP documents. This is what an SCP horror film should be like, mysterious, spooky and not your typical Hollywood horror movie that throws an invincible monster or ghost at you. It was good to see that this wasn't just a movie with monsters cutting thru the entire MTF. The MTF was acting professional and "calm" even when things went a little sideways. Even if you're not an SCP fan, I recommed you to watch this. I showed this to some friends who didn't knew about the SCP universe, but they loved the short film and the concept about the SCP Foundation. 10/10, keep up the good work. Greetings from Norway.

I really liked this film
cuddlysharkyt23 November 2020
My main gripes were as follows:
  • characters not stumbling access the intel the find, they seem to turn around and walk over to it, happens twice
  • gas masks not moving when they talk
  • some obvious issues with the tactics of the operators, although it's not to noticable
