Paul's Promise is based on the story of Paul Holderfield, who founded Friendly Chapel Church of the Nazarene in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Paul Hoderfield, Jr., who is currently the senior pastor at Friendly Chapel, has a cameo in the film -- he walks past the actor portraying his own father in the hospital hallway.
