This episode features a bit more situational humor than usual for an L & O story. In one instance of such, the court clerk at Lupo's arraignment in Dargerville tells the presiding judge that there is a motion to "squash a subpoena". The proper term is 'quash'.
James Murtaugh has played six different characters over the course of the series:
- Episode 19.5 Knock Off (2008) - Judge Samuel Sorotsky
- Episode 8.24 Monster (1998) - Newton
- Episode 7.8 Family Business (1996) - David Solomon
- Episode 6.2 Rebels (1995) - Dr. Farnsworth
- Episode 3.11 Extended Family (1993) - Dr. Jenner
- Episode 1.4 Kiss the Girls and Make Them Die (1990) - Christianson
At the end of the episode when Jack McCoy says, "I'm too old to play Hamlet," it's with the full knowledge that actor Sam Waterston (who plays Jack McCoy) played Hamlet at The Public Theater and on Broadway in 1975.
Rob Campbell, who played A.D.A. Silber, and Karron Graves, who played Mrs. Linz, both starred in The Crucible (1996), as Rev. Hale and Mary Warren, respectively. Their reunion marks another return to an oppressive New England small town.
