In this world, how many wishes do we humans make every day? Among these wishes, how many will be fulfilled? “The Lucky One” is the type of story that talks about the people’s desire. If the realization of human wishes depends on the whim of a few bored goddesses, doesn’t this suggest that the way we go about our lives is absurd? In “The Lucky One” a simple man makes a wish, to become a god. He becomes a god. If he knew the wishes of goodness are just forced office workers, would he still envy their life? No one will really know what they should pay for to achieve their goal, and have no idea what they really get after they fulfill their wishes.
The story of “The Lucky One”: Four goddesses play Mahjong in heaven through eternity while they grant random human wishes. Beside them is a chunky,...

He then spent the next 35-plus years developing it as a movie, trying in vain to find a way into the story.
Now, Talisman may finally be ready to reach screens but, as befits the times, as a series.
And, as it sometimes takes a village to raise a project, Spielberg has assembled some mighty collaborators to help him make the adaptation a reality.

This month on Amazon Prime Video UK sees the final three episodes of Neil Gaiman fantasy drama American Gods arrive, along with the first three episodes of new comic book animated series Invincible, adapted from the books by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
Movies-wise, there’s the sequel to John Landis’ 1988 comedy Coming To America, which follows the story of Eddie Murphy’s Prince Akeem as he’s drawn back to the US ahead of taking on Zamunda’s throne. Also, in his most anticipated role since he put on a beanie for those Kia car ads, Robert de Niro plays a granddad fighting with his young grandson over the use of a bedroom in The War With Grandpa.
Also – tennis, and a collection of existing movies including the very good Call Me By Your Name, which lands on the 26th. We’ll update this guide as new release...

When it released Wonder Woman 1984 to its HBO Max servers in December, WarnerMedia made it abundantly clear that it was ready for a new era of movie distribution. Now, in its list of new releases for February 2021, Warner is attempting another grand experiment for HBO Max.
Judas and the Black Messiah premieres on HBO Max this Feb. 12 and is by every indication the kind of film that awards shows go gaga over. Both Daniel Kaluuya and and Lakeith Stanfield look to be at the top of their respective games in this story about Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton and the FBI that wants to take him down. Will this have the same rhetorical oomph on the small screen? Guess we’ll find out!

Zac Efron will star in a remake of the 1987 hit comedy “Three Men and a Baby” for Disney Plus.
Gordon Gray, whose producing credits include “The Rookie” and Ben Affleck’s “The Way Back,” is producing. Will Reichel has written the script for the remake. A director for the remake has not yet been set.
The original “Three Men and a Baby” starred Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson as bachelors living a carefree lifestyle and sharing an apartment in New York City. The trio is forced to adjust to parenthood as an infant girl fathered by Danson’s character arrives at their doorstep.
That script, written by Jim Cruickshank and James Orr, was based on the 1985 French film “Trois hommes et un couffin” (“Three Men and a Cradle”). “Three Men and a Baby,” directed by Leonard Nimoy, was a massive success with $240 million in worldwide box office on an $11 million budget.

AMC’s upcoming animated drama “Pantheon” is filling out its main cast.
Paul Dano, Taylor Schilling, Aaron Eckhart and Rosemarie Dewitt have all been cast in the series, Variety has confirmed. It was picked up for two seasons back in March.
The one-hour show is based on a series of short stories by Ken Liu about Uploaded Intelligence, or human consciousness uploaded to the cloud. The first season will consist of eight episodes and focus on Maddie, a bullied teen who receives mysterious help from someone online. The stranger is soon revealed to be her recently deceased father, David, whose consciousness has been uploaded to the cloud following an experimental destructive brain scan.
Dano earned an Emmy nomination last year for his starring role in the limited series “Escape at Dannemora.” He is known for roles in films like “There Will Be Blood,” “Little Miss Sunshine,” and the upcoming film “The Batman.

Exclusive: Will Fetters, who with Bradley Cooper and Eric Roth adapted the Oscar-nominated screenplay for A Star Is Born, has been tapped to rewrite Tell No One, a Universal pic based on the 2001 Harlan Coben thriller novel.
The project from producer Frank Marshall has been in the works for a while, with previous script drafts from Chris Terrio and then F. Scott Frazier. Marshall is producing. Universal Evp Production Mark Sourian and creative executive Mika Pryce will oversee for the studio.

Taylor Swift’s triumphant Reputation tour gets immortalized the way it deserves in her new Netflix concert film, which premieres on the streaming service on New Year’s Eve. It shows off the biggest and best tour yet from one of pop’s all-time great live performers — Swift goes for stadium-rocking spectacle, without toning down any of her songs’ one-on-one emotional intimacy. According to the predictions of hundreds of Gold Derby users, “A Quiet Place” will win the Teen Choice Award for Choice Drama Movie, but might we be underestimating “The Greatest Showman”? In addition to being a huge hit with a wildly popular soundtrack, it boasts two Teen Choice favorites who could propel the film into the winner’s circle: Zac Efron and Zendaya.
To date Efron has won 11 Teen Choice Awards. In 2006 he claimed Choice TV Breakout and Choice TV Chemistry (with Vanessa Hudgens) for “High School Musical.” Then in 2007 he was the Choice Male Hottie. He followed that in 2009 with a trio of awards: Choice Comedy Movie Actor and Choice Movie Rockstar Moment for “17 Again,” and Choice Music/Dance Movie Actor for “High School Musical 3.”

Zac Efron has had his fair share of on-screen kisses, but the one he shared with Zendaya on The Greatest Showman might just top his list.
The two stars play young performers drawn into P.T. Barnum’s world as he sets out to create the greatest circus ever made. Their characters, Philip Carlyle and Anne Wheeler, are also drawn to each other, but work commitments pose interference in their relationship.
When the actors were asked what it was like to lock lips on the film, Zendaya, 21, said every moment between the two characters was “incredibly special.”

Taylor Swift is set to release her sixth studio album, Reputation, on Friday, Nov. 10. And, regardless of your thoughts on the 27-year-old, she’s always had a way with words.
Which is why for months (years, arguably), die-hard fans, gossip lovers and even the media have been anxious to get a true glimpse into Swift’s life over the past three years.
Taylor Swift Drops Heartfelt New Single 'Call It What You Want' -- Listen!
The Grammy-winning artist has always let the music do the talking – it’s one of her greatest strengths. Heck, when she released 1989, she included packs of Polaroid photos in each hard copy – with a handwritten lyric from the album printed on each one. And we’re confident that this album will be no different. We’ve learned so much from the songs she’s already released -- not to mention the caption she left on an Instagram post on Aug. 25 after announcing the album:...

A portrait of grief that borrows the conventions of romantic comedies. There may not be a lot of passion here, but there is plenty of pleasant zing. I’m “biast” (pro): love Rebecca Hall
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

Rebecca Hall is Hannah, widow of rock star Hunter Miles, who made “a single, nearly perfect album” of soulful acoustic folk before he died suddenly several years back. Jason Sudeikis is Andrew, a university professor who deems Hunter’s work “timeless” and wants to include the singer in the book he’s writing about tragic great American musicians. Hannah is reluctant to help Andrew with his research for lots of reasons: the most important one is the one she is unable to admit to herself, that she does not want to move on with her life. 2016 is five weeks old, so the new model is rolling off the assembly line. You might think I’m referring to an automobile company like Ford or Lincoln. Well, we are dealing with a brand name, one associated with popular novels instead of cars. Stephen King is still king of the horror/suspense novels, John Grisham has the legal thrillers, and Nicholas Sparks is best known for the swoony, sweeping romance paperbacks that fill the spinner racks at airport gift shops and often protrude from the tops of canvas beach bags. His best sellers quickly grabbed the attention of the movie studios, and almost a dozen have been translated to the big screen (easy to see why since they don’t require costly CGI action set pieces or big name superstars since Sparks is the name that draws ’em in). Back to the assembly line reference, there’s been a...

Forget it, Jake, it's January.
Like the title neighborhood in the movie "Chinatown," January at the box office is a dark and confusing place where nothing good ever happens.
That's how it played out this weekend, anyway, where the best that three new wide-release movies -- "Dirty Grandpa," "The Boy," and "The 5th Wave" -- could do was battle it out for fourth place with last week's flop "13 Hours" (pictured). And it was nearly a four-way tie, with the three new movies hovering around $11 million and "13 Hours" a tad behind with an estimated $9.8 million.
But even the hit holdover movies, including "The Revenant," "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," and "Ride Along 2," all underperformed this weekend. "Revenant" came out on top, but with an estimated $16.0 million, well below the $20 to $25 million that analysts had predicted for the buzzed-about drama's third weekend of wide release.

Britt Robertson and Scott Eastwood star in the latest Nicholas Sparks adaptation to make it to film. Here's our The Longest Ride review.
There are variables in the chemistry of a Nicholas Sparks film, but the basic formula has seldom changed through films like The Notebook, Dear John and The Lucky One. Even the posters for these movies often look indistinguishable from one another, except for the two actors pictured. The Longest Ride is the tenth Sparks adaptation to hit the big screen and though it sticks to what you'll know if you've seen more than one of the others, it's not necessarily a formula that's in need of fixing.
Stop us if this sounds like we've done a find and replace on some other plot summary, but this time we follow Sophia, (Britt Robertson) who's about to start a prestigious internship at a gallery in New York, just as...

That all changed in 2013 when Netflix debuted their mostly female-led prison dramedy "Orange is the New Black," which quickly went on to become a cultural phenomenon. Schilling has since gone on to net an Emmy nomination and two Golden Globe nominations for her lead work on the show, and, with the show's success, worldwide fame. June is a big month for the actress: Late last week Netflix dropped the third season of "Orange is the New Black," and this Friday sees the release of Patrick Brice's sexy comedy "The Overnight," in which...

Into the noisy chaos of summertime at the multiplex, offering a quiet diversion from the super-heroes and natural disasters, is a gentle comedy/drama/romance aimed at a most neglected movie audience: the seniors. Or, the Aarp crowd, if you will. Their favored flicks usually arrive in the later part of the year (for Oscar noms), or in the early Spring/late Winter. The studio execs are often stunned when this demographic embraces a film. Such was the case with The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which even inspired a recent sequel in addition to several Us mature pairings like And So It Goes. And in TV-land, those “Golden Girls” continue their popularity in endless reruns. This new film zeroes in on one such “golden gal” (well, she does have three BFFs) and provides a veteran actress of stage, screen, and TV with the role of a lifetime as the main...

You'd have thought that opening "The Longest Ride" opposite the still-strong "Furious 7" would have been a smart counterprogramming move. With all that testosterone on display in the latest installment of the car-chase franchise, surely some female moviegoers would feel underserved and turn to the new Nicholas Sparks movie, that they'd flock to the kind of cathartic tearjerker that is the "Notebook" author's bread and butter.
As it turned out, not so much. "Longest Ride" opened in third place with an estimated $13.5 million, below even the modest expectations for the film (about $14 to $16 million). That's better than the even weaker opening of last October's Sparks entry "The Best of Me" (which premiered with just $10.0 million and topped out at $26.8 million) but well below the $22.5 million debut of 2012's Sparks saga "The Lucky One."
Does the relative weakness of these recent spark-free Sparks movies mean that the Sparks vogue, which has spanned 10 movies over 16 years,...

Nicholas Sparks adaptations are their own ecosystem. Though characters never overlap, they might as well all exist in a shared universe — one with its own logic, its own attitudes, and its own idea of fan service. The relationships are interchangeable and easy-to-assemble: Sometimes it’s the boy who’s got the chip on his shoulder, sometimes it’s the girl; sometimes class gets in the way, sometimes war, sometimes differing worldviews. Love always wins out, naturally, but often it does so ironically; Sparks is not one to shy away from killing off a lover or two, which occasionally gives the stories some much-needed suspense.Seen in that light, The Longest Ride is actually one of the more competent Sparks films in some years — a far cry from the creaky noir of Safe Haven, the awkwardly backloaded melodrama of The Best of Me, or the phony brooding of The Lucky One.

Okay multiplex maniacs, before we make a most welcome return visit to the Marvel Movie Universe, it’s time for that annual (sometimes semi-annual) slog into another movie universe, Sparks-land. I’m talking about another flick based on another product off the novel assembly line from Nicholas Sparks. Box office gold occurred with The Notebook eleven (!) years ago and the studios have been returning with pick, shovel, and camera to that mine ever since. Just like cinema stars and franchises, he’s a brand name. It’s just a question of which familiar themes will be re-hashed and which photogenic actors will be put through some now familiar paces. But hey, we may get a surprise, although this one’s title seems more than a little daunting. Are you ready to embark on The Longest Ride?
