- Lillie stages an American tour, marred by hostile American critics and newspaper accusations of an illicit romance with American millionaire Freddie Gebhard. Returning to England leads to stage triumphs and problems with creditors, and a visit from Freddie with an intriguing suggestion.—mama.sylvia
- Lillie arrives in New York to a tremendous welcome but did little rehearsing on the ship. Now in the city, she tours and shops and gets a new admirer in the form of Freddie Gephard who want to see her everyday. She spends very little time rehearsing and not surprisingly, her reviews are less than glowing. As a result, Henrietta decides to return to England but makes a point of telling journalists that she disapproves of Lillie's professional and personal conduct while in the United States. She even gives them some of the intimate letters Lillie's received from Gephard. The U.S. tour goes well as she travels across the United States to much acclaim. In St. Louis however a local newspaper attacks her morals. After two years away, she returns to London - via Paris where where she studies acting for 3 months - and into the arms of the the Prince of Wales. Her 4 year-old daughter comes to live with her and Freddie Gephard comes to visit her. He may have a way for her to get a divorce from Edward.—garykmcd
