Good Look at the New Klan
KKK: Inside American Terror (2008)
*** (out of 4)
Good documentary from National Geographic takes a look at the recent uprise in the KKK, which has now broken down into several groups. One is a more traditional one with the white robes but the other is bringing a Nazi/skinhead hatred in and this here is seeing a rise in violence. The documentary certainly isn't the last word on these hate groups but for the most part I think it really gives one a good idea of what type of work they're doing today. Through the 45-minutes we get a quick history lesson about how the KKK got started, their rise in the 1920s and their eventual fall during the Civil Rights period. We then hear about some of the activity from the Civil Rights period up until today including a hanging in 1981 Mobile, AL. We get several interviews with the leaders of these groups as they talk about what they're wanting to do with the Klan as well as their thoughts on the future. We also get some footage from various rallies that have been held and there's also some pretty graphic photos of some of the murders committed by the groups.
