An extended director's cut of the film exists on YouTube, which includes three and a half minutes of extra footage. The festival had a maximum runtime of five minutes for the shown films.
"The Case of the Missing Keys" finished as a finalist at the University of South Carolina Campus Movie Fest premiere.
An inspiration for the film's creation was that Evan Newton always lost items of his, (wallets, keys) so him and Daniel Sharp wanted to create a film "so dramatic for something so simple."
This film is the second by 1404 Productions.
This film was produced in a matter of four days. Campus Movie Fest allows for a five day filming window, but due to cast scheduling conflicts, only two days were allotted for shooting, and the editing took place over the course of a day.
