The key shooting crew consisted of three people; Mark van Hugten (director/producer), Carl Weidner (director of photography) & Mennolt van Wasbeek (camera/line producer). All other on set duties were equally divided among them.
With the exception of some stock-footage, the entire film was shot in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) over a period of 4 days.
Serge-Henri Valcke's character is called 'Mr. B' (short for 'Mister Butterfly') in the end credits, which was the working title of the production. 'Chrystalis' is a contraction of the words 'chrysalis', the hardened pupa of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly and 'crystal', referring to the many insects poured into Perspex throughout the film.
Main star Serge-Henri Valcke played a 'bit part' in one of writer and director Mark van Hugten's earlier short films 'Clogs' (2011)
The award winning solo performance 'WATCHING - Ceci n'est pas de deux' by Ester Natzijl formed the inspiration for the script after Van Hugten acted as a stage hand during the Amsterdam Fringe Festival in 2015. Natzijl agreed to do the puppetry for this production.
