Peter's CPA Danny Richmond (Alan Hewitt, "My Favorite Martian") advises Peter against buying a horse in favor of saving up money. On the train home Peter meets investor Jack Crawford (Allyn Joslyn) who turns out to be a neighbor. Peter is jealous that Jack is putting in a swimming pool and invites the Crawfords to play bridge. Jack's wife Isabel (Marianne Stewart) scolds her husband as they can barely afford the water in the pool but threatens him not to resort to his swindling tendencies when they go over to the Lindseys. Peter pays Jack $7800 to get in on one of his business deals- a parcel of land to develop. The Lindseys and Wilma go to visit the land to find a garbage dump that Peter remains optimistic about. They find two men working who inform them the property has been condemned by the city for quicksand. The Lindseys are depressed and Peter longs to find a way to get his money back. He develops a scheme of his own when listening to Mary read a children's book to the kids.
