“Free Solo” and “The Rescue” directors E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, two of the biggest names in documentary filmmaking, are also bringing a new project to Netflix this month. “Nyad” marks their first attempt at scripted filmmaking,...

Barbie has grossed over $1 billion worldwide and Hollywood is definitely taking notice, but is it taking the wrong lesson from the movie’s success?
It didn’t take long for Mattel to announce that it was developing movies based on 14 of its iconic toy properties, including Polly Pocket, Hot Wheels, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, Magic 8 Ball, American Girl, Uno, and more. While speaking with Rolling Stone, Randall Park feels that Hollywood is getting it all wrong, as usual. “I feel like, just in general, this industry is taking the wrong lessons,” Park said. “For example, Barbie is this massive blockbuster, and the idea is: Make more movies about toys! No. Make more movies by and about women!” If Mattel believes that Barbie has become so successful merely due to its association with the iconic doll, they definitely learned the wrong lesson. Barbie had something to say and its message...

When you think of romantic comedies, odds are you are not picturing films like I Robot or The Terminator. That is because science fiction tales about androids and artificial intelligence are typically fodder for terrifying thrillers and action movies. But, in an unexpected blend of genres, we now have a movie that combines the raunch of a sex comedy, the love of a romantic film, and the concepts of science fiction into a movie replete with humor, machines, and a dose of politics.
Directed by Casper Christensen and Anthony Hines, Robots is “Set in an era where advanced robotics have enabled humanity to utilize lifelike androids as servants and manual laborers, affluent suburbanites Elaine and Charles use android doubles of themselves to avoid the time constraints of dating.
