In David Cronenberg's freakish, genre-bending classic Videodrome, a sleazy cable TV boss seeks out the most sleazy entertainment he can find to put on his channel - but then discovers a disturbing underworld that he wished he'd never seen.
There are several curious parallels between Tickled, a new feature-length documentary hailing from New Zealand, and Cronenberg's 1982 movie - not that Tickled's reporter, director and narrator has much in common with Max Renn, the protagonist of the latter. But TV reporter David Farrier, who normally specialises in those fluffy stories you see at the end of the news, soon finds himself in way over his head when he starts investigating something called "competitive endurance tickling" - a supposed sport that fronts for something far more sinister.
It all begins when Farrier stumbles on a company called Jane O'Brien Media, and one...

Welcome to the first really bad weekend of the summer. Even though this weekend saw three new wide-releases, it's still the lowest-grossing weekend of Summer 2016 so far.
The new "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows," debuted at No. 1 with an estimated $35.3 million, but that's just over half of the $65.6 million debut that the previous "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" enjoyed two summers ago. Romance "Me Before You" did half as well as "Out of the Shadows," opening in third place with an estimated $18.3 million -- besting Warner Bros.' expectations. And Andy Samberg's boy-band mockumentary, "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping," underperformed with an estimated $4.6 million -- landing in eighth place. Woof.
Meanwhile, the modest sales of "Out of the Shadows" were enough to displace last week's winner, "X-Men: Apocalypse," which fell 66 percent in its second weekend to No. 2 with an estimated $22.3 million. Last week's big box office disappointment,...

Diskord has been dropping some quality material lately – they recently teamed up with Krewella on their trap banger “Beggars,” which featured on their recently released Ammunition Ep. The UK based production effort has now dropped another new track titled “Out There,” a bass heavy smash that takes a few cues from the sounds of yesterday.
Diskord open “Out There” with a retro 90’s synth stab and 2 step beats, setting the UK garage vibe that is present throughout the song. Things quickly take a dark turn leading into the drops though, which are dominated by distorted, pitch sliding basslines and banging beats. “Out There” is a blend of club sounds of the past mixed with current Edm trends, and the result is an electrifying dancefloor anthem.
With a string of quality releases under their belt, 2016 is already poised to be a big year for Diskord. If you dig what you hear on “Out There,...

Sigma Theory is merely the first of many fantastic titles I want to tell you about from this year's 'Rezzed', but it's definitely a good one to keep on your radar going into the future. Check out my hands-on time with the game!
This year at the UK's 2016 three day Egx Rezzed event I was fortunate enough to try out a vast selection of titles ranging from the well publicised and wide spread (like the fantastic open beta to Orcs Must Die Unchained) to the unique and the unknown. Sitting in the center of the London Tobacco Docks staring at the event map I was somehow attempting to come up with a gameplan of how to approach the next few days. This was, after all, my first ever Game development event.

Who’s Out There? is the name of a 1975 Nasa documentary about aliens and extraterrestrial civilizations. If that’s not enough to spark your interest, maybe the fact that the documentary is hosted by the legendary actor Orson Welles will. This doc is not only completely amazing, but it’s also fascinating as hell.
This 1975 Nasa film explores the view of extraterrestrial life emerging from the results of probes to the planets and interstellar discoveries and findings about the nature of life itself. The film discusses the conclusion drawn by a number of distinguished scientists that other intelligent civilizations exist in the universe.
The doc starts off with Welles talking about becoming friends with author H.G. Wells after his legendary War of the Worlds radio broadcast. The video then goes into interviews with people who thought the broadcast was really happening. After that, it gets into the meat of the subject matter of aliens.

Synopsis: A woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) discovers the horrifying truth about the outside world while living in an underground shelter with two men (John Goodman, John Gallagher Jr.)
What a great start to the year with Jj Abrams dropping a trailer for a long awaited “sequel” to Cloverfield on Twitter January 15, 2016. People’s minds ran wild with what could be in store. Abrams has slowly built a resume that might make him comparable to Steven Spielberg of this generation. If any director in the 21st century has earned the right to walk the masses into a movie theater blindfolded, it is Jj Abrams. But, if you are not a fan of most of his catalogue, he probably lured you into coming with two words: John Goodman. Let’s begin!
This is a wonderful scene
The opening credits scene yanks the viewer until a thrilling atmosphere. Sound is the scariest part of the film.

“If the lives, jobs, experiences, agency, physical bodies and aspirations of on-screen characters do not reflect the makeup of the audience (or what is worse: if they are actively insulting) audiences will make other choices – or call you out. Films refusing to reflect contemporary realities will feel stale and implausible not just to the groups whose lives are erased on screen, but also to...

Some great marketing for 20th Century Fox's "Deadpool" continues this week with several clips and social media promotional artwork and stills making fun of a variety of current topics including the return of "The X-Files" to actor Ryan Reynolds himself.
Lets start with the first proper clip from the film, one that begins as a sweet and romantic scene between Wade and Vanessa and ends up not going the way you might expect.
Next up comes two TV spots, the most surprising being the top one which shows us Deadpool and Negasonic Teenage Warhead breaking into the X-Men mansion and sneaking off with the jet. The second involves a bunch of the fight scenes including one with Colossus in action. The third deals more with Deadpool's older female friend Blind Al.

It’s been 14 years since David Duchovny‘s truth-seeking, pencil-tossing, Scully-crushing FBI Special Agent Fox William “Spooky” Mulder last appeared on the small screen, a drought that will end on Sunday, Jan. 24 with the premiere of Fox’s six-episode revival of The X-Files.
In the following Q&A with TVLine, the 55-year-old actor — and current star of NBC’s Aquarius — reflects on his X-Files past “difficulties” with leading lady Gillian Anderson (yes, we said past), present affection for playing Mulder and the future of the franchise that made him a household name.

This short film by Charlie Lyne (whose zippy, highly enjoyable essay/compilation film about teen movies, Beyond Clueless, is still available on Netflix Instant) tells the story of Rolfe Kanofsky, a pioneer who maybe got scalped. Barely out of high school, Kanofsky made a meta-reflexive horror film, There’s Nothing Out There, that bears a suspicious relationship to Scream. Did Wes Craven’s son having seen it have anything to do with it? Whatever the case, Copycat is a fun watch; bonus points for making the whole thing plausibly seem as if it were being watched on a beaten-up VHS.

The upcoming X-Files revival most likely functions on its own, as a brief return to the popular, conspiracy-laden world of FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. However, you just know that series creator Chris Carter and Fox both hope this thing is huge, allowing them to keep the aliens and black oil and weekly […]

Fox’s forthcoming X-Files revival boasts an embarrassment of A-Team riches in front of and behind the camera. In addition to returning stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Mitch Pileggi, the six-hour continuation features episodes written and directed by behind-the-scenes MVPs Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan, James Wong, and, of course, series creator Chris Carter.
But Carter says that there were four names on his wish list that didn’t end up participating in the limited series, but it wasn’t for lack of trying on his part.

"The American people need champions... the remind them what they're capable of." Focus Features has debuted the trailer for Race, a film by Stephen Hopkins about the legendary Olympian Jesse Owens, played in the film by young actor Stephan James.
