i love this show

Warning: Spoilers
a great comedy about the pitfalls of getting old and having a shady past. without meaning to they are constantly looking over their shoulder looking for the cops to come around the corner and tap them on the shoulder and say "eh boys the gigs up". time for you to spend the next 20 years in jail.

the plot outlines 3 men and their strangely connected journey through life. one of the main guys is the wheel man for the gang. he is all about spaces, alarms and driving the get away car. the other of the 2 main guys is all about the safes he cracks then knows them and knows locks. the third in this comedy trio is a lot younger he is the son of the original third man who died a long time ago he is the muscle.

the wheel man has a son a lazy load on his wallet. his son is cruising around life blissful in the knowledge that his dad has the funds to bail him out whenever he gets in trouble( witch he does quite allot). his son knows he is the wheel man for a gang of thieves and milks it for all its worth. unlike the wheel man the safe man has a daughter who is blissfully unaware her dad is a thief she thinks he is a retired banker.

the whole show is about a sea change from a new slant very interesting and funny a laugh every few minutes and great story depth

There is nothing you don't love about the show...
DominikSpeicher8 June 2008
This show is very well written and I do love the score of the show. The stories do have a lot of humor and drama at the same time, it feels like real life sometimes. I wished there would be more shows with such an emotional touch and still taking the viewer on a funny ride. I recommend this series to everyone who loves to laugh and to experience British humor. The show tells the story of two elderly guys lol - they were formerly known as The Invisibles (robbers) and are now retired. The six episodes are telling a really believable story of these two guys, how they cope with the things that life handed them on a plate. Maurice (Anthony Head, very well know as Giles in Buffy - The Vampire Slayer) and his wife life together, she has no idea about him being still in action. Syd (Warren Clarke, known for his role as Dim in A Clockwork Orange) lives alone and his son causes the two to give up their retirement and start all over with the Invisibles.

Well so the story begins.

I love the show.

The Invisibles
nadgouk7 June 2008
As I write, 1st series has been shown on BBC 1...

What a "Feel Good" show! This is just so entertaining, It's been a long time since I can tell the day of the week purely by counting down the days to the next episode! What a fantastic cast too with Jenny Augutter looking great and so "her". The rogues that the Invisibles are, you still can't help sympathising and backing them. If you haven't see it before, you haven't lived but don't worry, you can pick it up at anytime and know exactly whats going on. The Invisibles is finally a show where we are back to the good old days of simple family entertainment.

Superb. Just superb. Even when viewing a second time around !
SceneByScene12 October 2023
I have now watched this miniseries twice: once when it was first broadcast on TV, and again this year - 15 years later, in 2023.

It is as good now as it was back in 2008.

Funny, touching, and dramatic. Pathos is blended with comedy to just the right level. We believe in all the characters. It's a chance to see human nature in all its colours, and laugh all the while at the guys' antics . . .

Anthony Head and Warren Clarke spar off each other to great comedic effect, Jenny Agutter adds sass & style. And the younger Dean Lennox Kelly adds his own edge. Several star guests give depth to the finished product. Overall, true casting genius.

All-round entertainment. Oh how marvellous a TV drama can be, when the whole team - actors, writers, et al - put it together so well.

old coots move back to England from Spain and start working as burglars.
dailowe8831 December 2009
Aggravating story and a flawed premise right from the start makes this series unwatchable. If our heroes were England's best thieves in their day, what we have now are two complete incompetents. Maybe because of their advanced age they are in the early stages of delusional senility. Do not waste your time. I am not sure who the producers are but if they had even given the scripts a quick read they might have brought in someone who could at least plug the gaping plot-holes. It is a lazy and totally uncaring approach to series making. If we have stars and a decent location - why clutter it up with a plot ? Please do not insult us with a second season of this drivel.

Jolly Good Fun

Unexpected 'Jolly good fun' !

This show is so well written and the music is spot on. A well rounded and talented cast puts it over the top. It's really well done; I can't stop watching it.

Considering this is not the type of show I would normally watch, I am not certain how to describe it or what to compare it to.

Just here to say it's great !

TOO BAD............it really had potential....but..............................
Pizzaowner13 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
WHAT A SHAME!!!!!!!!!! Pretty good plots......fairly good acting and enough humour to make it worth a chuckle from time to time but unfortunately, as happens too often in a good idea looking to get cute.....the go WAY overboard on the unlikely situations and not willing to stop with a finger in the stupid pie, they dive right in...head first and unlikely becomes improbable which becomes unbelievable which becomes impossible and finally lands with a huge PLOP ...right on un-entertaining. Just to give a quick but fairly typical example..the 3 of them are robbing a safe at the head of a bed with the husband and wife in the bed....they physically DRAG the mattress out of the way so they can more easily crack the headboard safe and when things go a little wrong have a full-voiced argument about who's fault it was....or 1 minute later after they miraculously escape the house and 2 guard dogs, one of the trio gets a cell phone call and spends 2 minutes talking to his girlfriend. Now it WAS funny.....the first time but like all lame and lazy writing, once a laugh...then milk it till it cries. This is so sad because it has all the elements to be a great show....but...like too much of 1 spice in the soup....great moves to crap VERY quickly.

What a delight - didn't want it to end
abizmom7 May 2023
Ignore the Nay-sayers. After a slow start, this mini-series takes on a barmy life of its own. It's daft, funny, at times full of suspense and poses some interesting moral conundrums about love, family, loyalty, doing the right thing and being accountable. I couldn't help rooting for them, although they really didn't deserve it! The acting is lovely and it's wonderful to find a drama with the excellent Warren Clarke (RIP) really pulling out all the stops. Jenny Agutter is sublime and Antony Head is still gorgeous, even as a criminal. At times the interactions are really moving, especially in the last few episodes. No spoiler alerts, but the final episode was a blast!

Utter tripe. Totally boring. Terrible premise. Terrible acting.

I couldn't watch even one whole episode.

Probably family members giving it 7 out of 10.
