I'm getting my hopes up again.
Rob-O-Cop14 July 2022
Those first few humorless episodes of this season were a bit of a worry, but this episode and last weeks one restore a lot of my faith. Interesting stories, little bit of irreverent humor, that's all we ask for.

Orville Judgement Day
Nightmarelogic15 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the "Judgement Day" aspect of the episode. Getting a better explanation of why the Kaylons killed their creators. And yes I am starting to warm to Charly. I know some people will forever hate her but I think that is part of the joke. Hating a character for something she did in episode 1 is the same as her hating Isaac. She has been showing growth so let her. The fact that she was able to see the other side of the equation even if she will never truly be able to forgive Isaac is a huge step forward and that is all we can ask from a person.

And I really liked the Isaac and Claire scenes. Alot of it presented kind of weird. And Kelly telling Claire to ask Isaac to get emotions "For her" was kind of weird but I understand why the show did it that way. And the scenes with Claire and Isaac when Isaac finally "felt something" was exceptionally well done. I love the scenes where Isaac gets to wear his human face. And watching Claire and Isaac together when they were both in the same place emotionally was heartbreaking because you knew it wasn't going to last. And the way he ended worked for me. I know people are going to nitpick it but to have Isaac and Claire have to chose between memory and emotion, mind and soul is a perfect predictiment for them.

I also liked the John and Talia stuff. It was a fun way to show that not all interspecies relationships can work no matter how much both parties wanted them to work. Every time they try to have sex John ends up getting injured. So they can either have a relationship with no sex or end their relationship entirely. Again you can nitpick that plenty of relationship even romantic ones don't entail sex but one of the things that was in fact weird about Star Trek was that any species seemed to be able to have a relationship with Riker or Kirk. Riker or Krik fell in love and then in bed with that strange new species with no sexual disfunction. If you watched the underrated Alien Nation they did it better. Human's and New Comers were just not sexually compatible in a real meaningful way so when they did want to have sex they had to "work at it" and having children was not possible at all.

I wish I liked the Kelly plot with the man-hating aliens more. I would have loved to go into the race in a meaningful way that I don't think would happen. But there was too many jokes in this plot that just kind of ruined the idea for me. I know Seth likes his jokes but this would have been a better plot if it was more dramatic especially for Kelly being treated like the Captain for a bit and what it was like for her and to an extent for Ed to suddenly understand how it feels to be overlooked simply because of his gender. But then this was a weird episode with weirdly timed jokes. Not the best episode of the season but it did have it moments.

A genuinely worthwhile episode
jeremyturner-3054814 July 2022
This was an interpersonal drama episode, fairly low on the sci-fi and even a "Claire's relationships" episode in part, but somehow they made it work. The A-story absolutely knocks it out of the park - it's a little predictable, but that doesn't stop it from still hitting the high notes. The B-story is really just transparent filler, a bit trite and cliche, but it didn't serve enough of a purpose to matter and Bortus' one line made me bark laughing.

Season 3 looked like it was going to be a real clunker at first, but it's really turned around in the last couple of episodes. Hoping it stays this way for the rest of the season.

Another wonderful episode!
vabeachmatthew14 July 2022
I'm going to keep this one spoiler free but the episode gives us the viewer, and even some of the cast some insight as to why Kalons are are they way they are. In an truly masterful episode we are taken on a journey through the past and integrating it with the present. This show MUST have a Season 4 and even more beyond that!

The best Orville's episode to date!
martinsmarkss14 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What a great episode! Definitely on of the best Orville's episode to date ! It had it all it was beautifully crafted episode and even jokes were back and they were funny as well, it had drama, character growth, view on relationships, various topics like - slavery, genocide, love, forgiveness, emotions, matriarchy, honestly. I especially liked end scenes in the episode of the Issac and Clair and between Issac and Charley we also got some Kaylon history. Little bit Orville world building. Definitely my favorite Orville episode !

Tough episode didn't had much action except for - Lamar and Talla which was hilarious!

In one episode Orville managed do what STD couldn't accomplish for 4 seasons talking about emotions and crying - no one cried in Orville but they made me cry with overwhelming emotions !

I felt like i was watching really good DS9 or TNG episode !

Wow!!

Warning: Spoilers
What an episode. It was well written, captivating and even with two story lines going at the same time, it was never confusing. But OMG

🚨 *Spolier alert* 🚨

Isaac with emotions and as the most perfect man a woman could ask for!!! And I'm SO angry he couldn't stay like that. Ugh. Damn you Seth, pulling on my heart strings like that.

This is the Orville we we know!
niche-0343715 July 2022
Last couple episodes have been absolutely incredible, So much storytelling, depth and intrigue.

This episode had the good old orville humour we've missed this season, the bags scene had me laughing way harder than it should have, absolutely nailed the prop comedy!

Possibly the best episode to date
Drew1098114 July 2022
I'm gonna try to avoid spoilers here. This episode has a tremendous volume of depth, subtle humor, character growth, character evolution, story progression, and creative problem introduction and resolution. Much like the previous episode, the depth to which the writers went to craft an excellent script and the actors performed their scenes was quite genuine and comes across as very authentic, almost engrossing you into the episode causing you to forget you're watching fictional characters. The subtle elements of humor in serious scenes throughout the episode helps humanize so much of what transpires on screen. And the ending scene sequence that immediately precedes the credits adds a layer to a larger subplot of this season that I very much appreciated.

Great episode, but one big flaw that somewhat broke it
blakemccartney14 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love the show and I enjoyed the actor of Isaac being allowed to show a greater range with the emotion concept. But one bug flaw was not addressed in this episode. In the first season, Pria, Isaac is shut down and "deleted" when he attempted to remove a control box from the engine room. He managed to help the crew later by showing he had downloaded himself to the ship when he was blasted away by the device. This episode hinges on him having to either lose all his memories and experience in order to gain the emotion configuration, but the idea of downloading himself to the ship, having the install and re-downloading similar to the previous episode was never brought up as even an option. It feels a little lazy from a writing standpoint.

Lovely
marcmyles-5165614 July 2022
This is was just the loveliest episode. The parallels with next generation are obviously always here but the new take on characters and events are always carried out in just the most intelligent and heart felt ways. Isacc who resembles data from TNG, has performed magnificently throughout and especially in this particular episode.

Almost a movie or 3 episodes in one.
ZEROspawn15 July 2022
Where other shows give us maybe 20-25 min of episodes The Orville gives us almost a whole movie, or 3 episodes in one. Not only is this a diplomatic episode, it's also a love story and a origin story that could have been episodes in their own rights. I really hope this comes out as a Bluedisc collection at some point as I really want to save this show for the future. Thank you Seth for saving sci-fi for future generations.

Claire is a horrible person
kariverson16 July 2022
She's awful. Her plaything she also wants to look like a much younger person (lets face it, it's her decision how she wants him to look) is not enough for her, she also rationalizes, with the help of the other morally skewed woman in the crew, manipulating Isaac to do her bidding. And it's not the first time she feels owed something from Isaac.

Orville this season has the same skewed morality disney shows have. On one hand it was awful the Kaylons were treated like slaves but on the other it's perfectly fine that on that new planet men were the ones treated like slaves.

An otherwise good episode but omg could Seth please kill off Anne Winters' character already? I know they're dating but i can't hit MUTE quick enough to block out all her snotty brat lines! :P.

Excellent episode
waltersstar14 July 2022
The production values were outstanding. I loved the backstory and it was beautifully told. Having it run 75 minutes, allowed it to tell the story without cutting corners. Moving it to Hulu without time restrictions is wonderful. We need a season 4. Get everyone to watch so it gets renewed.

Best of Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica in this episode
pkpera14 July 2022
Yeah, lot of people realized that Orville is pretty much Star Trek like. In best way. And I realized something in this episode - Keylons - similar to Cylons in Battlestar Galactica - probably not just coincidence. And this episode dealt in big part with AI, interaction with humans, in really great storytelling.

I enjoyed it thoroughly, in over 70 minutes length. Some complain that was predictable - yes, I expected that final getting along since first episode of this season - and that was good for my heart :-)

Best what some movie/TV show can do - humor, very hard being interaction issues, about need for love ...

Seth, you are genius.

Powerful,Deeply Moving and Intense topic matter
skip-9875615 July 2022
The writing and story in this episode blew me away! I also watch and really like the Star trek strange new worlds series and I will actually say that the Orville in season 3 has been consistantly Outstanding with its provocative and deeply moving stories...There is an art to walking that fine line in scfi, where one can be too "preachy" too woke , you name it and crossing that line has done in many scifi series...the Orville balances stories that are Incredibly interesting, timely in that they still relate in some way to things we all face, as well as bringing intensity and Very serious topic matter while Still including Just Enough humor at times to keep people from being overwhelmed... Thats an ART! I Prefer intensity and dark themes and while orville does not goe as dark as say BSG or Caprica It still manages to really satisfy my desire for Serious topics to be tackled head on... this show does Not dissapoint! I LOVE the characters in the series and Iaasic , their "Data" , is supremely likeable and played so beautifully and convincingly by the actor...The show that aspired to offer what star trek was failing to deliver has Exceeded by a large margin even the new trek series itself...and that show is Very good indeed! The acting and the Writing especially,is stellar in orville...I noticed in the trek series ,having watched the whole 1st season that its writing was hit and miss..Not so here...

Wonderful and full of heart - spoiler free
neilwadams14 July 2022
Watching S3 of the Orville at the same time as Strange New Worlds is a slightly eerie experience. Especially when episodes like this crash into you. The story is so beautifully crafted, the writing so good, and it's a prisoner to nobody at all (unlike Star Trek). The humour and the heart are all there and I loved it.

Eh, why not a 10?
rossdanbruen14 July 2022
I thought this episode used it's length well. I laughed, I teared up, and I think the philosophy on display was important yet completely uncontroversial, making it land more easily and without muddled interpretation. Great alien makeup, and seeing how the Kaylon headshape actually has an inspiration was cool too.

Probably the most significant episode for humanity.
rallierf115 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is all about the origin story of the Kaylons, how and why they rebelled against their creators and why they're so distrustful of biological species. The episode itself is very well thought out and entertaining but as someone who follows the strides AI is taking the creators of this episode have definitely have some great ideas on how to solve the problem of self awareness of AI.

The original creators of the Kaylon have imposed themselves over them using pain and punishment which devolved to sadism. The solution presented, that is beautifully crafted into the episode, involves providing such A. I. with emotions and particularly empathy which caused a particular Kaylon unit to feel remorse for the actions carried out by himself and his fellow Kaylons.

I would go one step further and add that in our future in case we ever develop sentient A. I. to make sure we have the way to instill empathy, love and nurturing feeling into them, in a way for them to enjoy their service to humanity without them being victims of sadistic behaviors across the field; exceptions will always exist as as such laws preventing abuse should be put in place and enforced.

Now I understand that many pointed out, including me that Isaac could upload his memories into the computer and download them again, but this was not the point of the episode. It is a simple a subject they simply felt the need to address but not affect the whole story arc of the series. Could they execute it better? Yes but with limited time they had to finish it off within the same episode so they took a shortcut, for which I forgive them.

All in all for this kind of perception which is staring in our face but we're oblivious to it because when we think of AI we think of it in a machine like way ourselves. I must give it a 10 out 10!!!

Claire, oh Claire
geekoutmetal10 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Where for art though, oh Claire?

The character is such an immature topsy turby person.

She falls for a robot without emotions.

Everyone thinks she is daft. But forever she says she loves him.

However, despite all her words and claims of love, she wants to chang him instead of just letting him be his own person or, wait for it, have him look like half her age.

Not, to mention now she also wants him to be lobomotized for her. I mean that is what she is wanting here. A total change to her character.

It's not enough that she is the one who has been chasing him, not the other way around. And as far as I remember he has never asked her to change for him.

So, like the first episode and the second one, she continues to be the weak one onthe team who is always self absorbed and self-centered.

She's basically a cougar who wants a cabana boy at this point.

Warning: Spoilers
What a beautiful episode!! Claire and Isaac's emotional moment, however short lived it was, was absolutely beautiful. The lessons we can all learn from this episode about relationships, acceptance, admitting something painful and seeing things from the other person's view, well, they are all just beautiful reminders of how amazing this world could be if we all just opened our eyes. A beautiful episode with beautiful moments and messages all around!!!

Forcing Another To Love You Is Horrible
noonieblount17 August 2022
The only reason this episode received a 7 instead of 1 rating is because of the comedic scenes: John & Talla, and the Moculan not liking the judgmental women.

The doctor not moving on and insisting Isaac LOVE HER is ridiculous. This may seem harsh but I compare it to someone being a stalker and insisting the person they are stalking undergo surgery to love them back. Preposterous!!!

Too many plots
AlexanderJB4 September 2022
In sci-fi, it's common to have episodes with an A-plot and a B-plot. Often times these plots are entangled and can lead to collective resolution. The issue with this episode is it combines two full episodes, which means we have two A-plots and two B-plots.

There is a highly interesting Kaylon storyline which explores emotion, the creation of the species, and more. These topics certainly deserve an entire episode and it's a shame they had to share screen time with an additional topic.

On the other hand, there is a completely separate storyline regarding about matriarchic societies. This entire storyline is weaker and is out of place with regards to the kaylon plot.

Additionally, John and Talla have zero chemistry on screen so let's not continue down this route, and Charly is still just a bad person.

The orville has officially surpassed star trek for me.
foxcool14 July 2022
This episode has everything. It was funny in the comedic segments and touching in the dramas.

I still remember season one, alot of the episodes then felt like it was trying too hard and results in it just feeling awkward. This episode however, accomplished the opposite, it was funny without trying and flows very natural. That's my review for the Lamar and Talla storyline.

The kaylon storyline was absolutely amazing!! Starting from exploring the back story and origin of the kaylon race to the romance of clair and isacc, finally ending in a hopeful fateout.

I'm so grateful that series of this quality still exist amongst the in your face agenda pushing entertainment industry.

Thank you Seth Macfarlane.
