Nightmares for a whole generation

'Ik, mik, Loreland' is a semi-educational series that introduces the alphabet to children in a fun engaging way. However, the series had an unforeseen effect on audiences. Its not an overstatement to say that 'Ik, mik, Loreland' is a 'classic' in Dutch millennial culture. The series owes its fame to the main villain 'Karbonkel', who would scare the life out of the 7 year-old audiences everytime he appeared on screen. I recall memories from elementary school where my some of my peers started to cry, and some (including my sister) were having nightmares of the absolutely hideous looking 'Karbonkel'. You could ask any 23-33 year old about Karbonkel and they will probably tell you their story of how they reacted to the monstrosity Karbonkel. There is even a mockumentary about this generational trauma.
