Prunella Scales plays Mrs. Mackenzie in this version while her husband Timothy West played Rex Fortescue in the BBC adaptation Miss Marple: A Pocketful of Rye (1985).
The last TV project for both Ken Campbell and Wendy Richard. Campbell died during post production; Richard passed away nearly a year after filming was completed.
Julia Mackenzie replaces Geraldine McEwan who had played Miss Marple in the three previous series of the show.
In this episode Inspector Neele, played by Matthew Macfadyen, questions Lance Fortescue at the airport. Lance, played by Rupert Graves, laughs him off at one point by saying, "You sound like my brother, Inspector!" Macfadyen and Graves had played brothers two years before in the successful dark comedy film Death At A Funeral.
